Firstly, the image must be uploaded to a web server and not your own computer. Then you can place an image in your posts by using the following format:
[IMG]http://www.domainofyourserver.extension/path/to/image.extension[/IMG] So an example would be: [IMG]http://www.oddworlduniverse.com/misc/images/stuff.jpg[/IMG] Alcar... |

I don't understand. How to upload the image to the web server?:fuzmad:

To upload the image to a webserver, first of all you need a webserver. You can obtain a free hosting service through Brinkster, Geocities or the ever-unreliable Host.sk; however, I'm not really sure of their success of hosting pictures. I know I've never been able to remote link using either of my Brinkster accounts or my Host.sk account. You could pay for a server, of course.
Next you need to upload the image. All the hosts I mentioned above how browser file upload thingies, which means you don't need any fancy software. You can use an FTP programme, though, which is much better, but they too cost a lot of money unless you install a 30 day trial - but as the name implies, that only last for 30 days. There are three other things you need to know: 1) Search to see if the picture is already on the Internet, or the Forums. If it is, right click on it and select 'Properties'. In there there will be an address in the usual http://www.duhduhduh.com/ format, which you can copy, and then paste between the [IMnd [/IMG] tags. 2) You can upload images onto the Forums by attaching them to the post. Below where you type your post, it'll say 'Attach file:', and to the right of that, click the button marked 'Browse'. Find the file on your computer, click okay and post your post. Then click on the attached file, copy the URL in the address bar, click 'Edit' on your post, and insert that address between the image tags. 3) Some people, such as The Red Muse, are kind enough to host images for you. If all else fails, you can find such a person, PM them and they'll put it on their list of things to do, to upload your image onto their webserver (you'll have to send them the picture through email or chatting client, or something). Then they'll give you the address, which again goes between the image tags. Note that if you want to include a banner in your signature, you're not allowed to host it on the Forums, which means you can't perform the second of the actions outlined above. |
