A useful tip for all forum users!

Don't you just hate it when you spend ages writing a long post during a forum-based RP game or a debate, and then when you post, something bad happens to the forum (e.g. you get a 500 server error or you added too many images or something like that), but when you press the back button, your hard-typed post dissappears?

Of course it's VERY annoying when that happens, but there is a simple (and obvious) solution which I use to resolve this problem, and I thought I'd let you all know. :)

And that solution is to back up your post before you post it. How? Simply select your post before posting it (and who doesn't know how to do that? But if you don't, just right click on the bit where you type your text and click 'Select All' in the sub-menu which appears), and copy it to your clipboard. Therefore if the post does get lost during a forum error (which has happened to me many times), you can just paste it into the area where you enter your post, and hey presto. :)

Of course if you don't trust the clipboard, you can always copy and paste your post into notepad for safe keeping.
Although I will tell you now, I have a specail file for that, which I keep on my desktop called Scrap.txt. It contains just posts and web addresses and stuff that I want to store for future use, a bit like a scrapbook, hence it's name.

Happy foruming. :)

Or you can just type up the post in Wordpad/Notepad/Word/etc in the first place...that's what I do with my story/Roleplay posts.

I've been doing that ever since we started getting the Server 500 errors :) But it'll be good for those that don't know about it.

Alcar...

I started doing that after i typed a really long post in the matrix thread and it stuffed up. So now i use cltrl+c, ctrl-v.

or alternatively, press the back button in your browser and copy the text.

OR get a better server.

I had just typed a really long story in RPG and when I hit "post reply" the server error popped up. I clicked back and it was all gone! That's when I started copying all my messages and then pasting if needed.

Exactly. Or you can just select all and cut. Then paste it in the message box. If you get the error, just keep testing it until it finally works, refresh etc. Thats what finally I started doing after it ate three of my really really long, and very informative posts.
