MO on PS2
Hey now after I just said all'a that stuff bout Mo in my last thread I have sum syuff to say.
MO lookes so good on xbox but am I right in sayin it looked a whole lot more oddworldy on PS2. Just look at some of the screeens at oddworld.com in the universe section. Its looks so great. Secondly the gameplay also seems to have been a bit different with the PS version am I right? To see what I mean go to the Universe section/Native/Enviroments. Sorry I cant give you the adress sumthins wrong wit my crppy old computer again. :) |
It's true that during the pre-console programming and the PS2 programming, OWI were releasing nothing but highly-impressive material about Munch's Oddysee, but in all likelihood, deadlines and staff leaving would have resulted in a game with the same flaws and disappointments as the Xbox version. As for screenshots where you suggested, the only one of those environments listed due to appear in Munch's Oddysee is the SpooceShrub Forest, and all the screenshots posted in that page are taken from the Xbox version.

Ya sorry I told you the wrong link thingy but IF you go to Xavs link youl see what i mean! It just looks so much better.
Thanks for the rep. |
Xbox is a better game engine that PS2. That's why OWI moved. They needed a powerful machine to support their world. Now, if you want to see something impressive, just look at the prototype of Steef rowing through the water in his boat on X factor. Oh baby, that wasn't even finished product and I was drooling!:D

Nope its gonna take way too long. But from some of the pics Iv seen there looks like some real weird and unoriginal stuff. Wats with the chickens? And why does steef look like a cenatour?http://www.depthsofoddworld.com/imag...ages/dc10.html

You'll get both a lot of agreement and opposition here, Moodokon Man. Personally, I agree that the characters in Oddworld 4 are shaping up... not too good. Blame that on the absense of Farzad Varahramyan, whose art and design was almost the life of Oddworld - he will be sorely missed, and judging from the chickens, salamanders and such, he is already. Unfortunately, it's something we're more than likely just to have to put up with, which is incredibly sad. However, bear in mind that the footage from the X-Factor video is over a year old, so potentially the character designs have changed for the better.
The chickens are arrogant townsfolk, but their role is unknown. It looks like their going to be providing the 'comic' relief. I put the word 'comic' in inverted comics, because talking about 'pork and beans' is not funny. At all. Especially since pork doesn't even exist on Oddworld. :( The Steef is a centaur by nature. I agree it's more of a cut-and-paste design than the previously original species like Scrabs, Vykkers et al, but don't feel too bad about his design, because you probably haven't seen the salamanders or blob yet - man, you do not want to get your hopes up about them: disappointment central.:fuzemb: |

I actually have a smaller "edited" version of the X-Factor. It contains the Oddworld segments only and the intro/ending. It goes for about 10 mins. I always meant to put it up on Oddworld-Web, but it never got done.
http://www.oddworld.au.com/temp/xfactor_ow.wmv (21 MB) *reverts back to original topic* I too loved those original PS2 designs, although I may be wrong, I remember vaugely hearing that they were done for PC. They seemed to have a more "artistic" look about them rather than a game look that we got with Munch's Oddysee. However, Lorne himself said on the X-Factor that he wasn't really happy with Munch's Oddysee himself and that it didn't come out how they wanted it to. So possibly that could be one thing that he was referring to, that they didn't get to show the artistic side as much as they wanted to. I noticed a FMV today in the X-Factor ... and it showed a scene with huts, a river and a boat going across. God, that looked stunning!!! Abe Babe... |
Wel I got sum stuff to say,
Firstly xbox is no better than PS2 and MO would'v been just as good if not better on PS2. Secondly, I take back all the stuff I said bout the designs. They have really grown on Me and the next game promises to be brilliant. Plus after watchin that video(thanx to abe babe) I can honestly say that Lorne is an absolute geneous. This next game is gonna be big. |
Munch's Oddysee may only have used a quarter of the Xbox's graphical power, but it still used twice as many polygons as the PlaySations 2 can handle, so your first statement clearly isn't entirely accurate. As for the designs, well, I can't tell you not to like them because they're your opinions. But I don't like them. I really don't see how OWI can't be aware that whereas their original characters were so weird and original they were almost cthulian, their latest creatures can be described, for instance, as simply as 'chickens in dungarees'.
