No patience for AO!!
I'm finding AO quite difficult in the sense that my manouvring seems limited and reactions of enemies and obstacles seem faster! It takes me a good several hours and probably 30 attempts to get pass just one screen.... it's becoming tedious and i'm starting to lose interest...... whhhhhhhhyyyyyyeeeeeeeeee.....

The difficulty level of the earlier Oddworld games is part of what I fell in love with. Maneuvering would seem limited after playing MO, but it's Abe's clumsiness that was part of the appeal for me. The reactions would seem faster, since the AI in MO was just poor.
But like I say, Oddworld was once renowned for being utterly utterly frustrating, taking, as you say, 30+ attempts to get past some screens. However, if you stick with it, it should become just easier and easier, until you practically know every step of the way and would only die by the occasional slip-up. But if it's really just becoming tedius, then perhaps you should just take a break for a while. You could return and just skip past the next level with ease. Alternatively you could end up hurling your controller around the room, but in the words of Will Johnston previewing Munch's Oddysee in PS Pro magazine, "The rewards it gave more than make up for the frustration of being crushed in a meat blender for the sixteenth time." |
Yeah, that's one of the great things about the Abe games. They implemented just the right amount of frustration to where you almost quit, but once you get it it's like "wow...I'm so cool..."

I guess you are both right.... I will consider your wise words, and have a bit of a break. I just hate it when I can get past one screen once, and then I'll mess up a little later on without getting to a save point, so I'll have to start again.... and the first part I past originally for some reason can't be done again, and I have to do it loads of times...... argh! All this time... and I'm still in the stock yard.... grrrr. Anyway, you're right, I'll try again later when I've calmed down.

Yea its fustraiting at first but when you get through it with ease its such a satifaction. Especially when you know every part. Because then you would play and the game takes less time to get through because you know everything. Your only in the Stockyards? Oh boy I don't want to say this but Oddworld is a vast game so its going to be awhile. I give you one word of advice "Coffie" Drink as much coffie as you can your going to need it! hehe:D

I just play the same level over and over until I'm pro, then that's when I start saving my game.
I also enjoy how in AO/AE the secrets take real effort to find! Oh baby, I don't know how many times I've jumped off a cliff to see if there was a hidden area!:D -oddguy:fuzcool: |
If you want to become better at AO, why not try AE?
It has the same basic interface/speed/movements , just with a few differences. It also hsa quicksave, so you only have to retry the part that kills you 30 times! |
Once you start AE, AO is even harder! I bought AE first, thinking it was the first game. Anyway, I beat AE then purchased AO. It was so weird playing the games in that order because I was used to the improvements in AE. I was used to talking to more than one mud at a time, quicksaving and secret areas having brew bottles around. I suggest you beat AO first, then move onto AE. It's the way it was meant to be played anyway.

AO is much harder than AE...
It's horrible when in AO has gone a really hard place, and thinks that there is a hidden area and jumps into death, and you have to start far away from that place. And in AE its nasty how quicksaves accidentaly right when you are dying.:fuzemb: |
AO will always be the hardest game to complete for me. I remember getting very frustrated one time and literally screaming at the game to let me pass through the screen I was stuck on.
Yessum, that's true. I demanded the game to let me through :fuzzle: Just keep at it. Oddworld is meant to be complicated. Alcar... |
I have found myself arguing with a video game before. It's not as much me being crazy as it is soley for entertainment purposes. Yet, the only way someone could find that fun is if they were crazy........right?!:D
