FFVII- Advent Children

I heard a recent rumour that a DVD called Final fantasy VII- Advent Children was going to come out. Since I can't get acsess to the Square-enix site -_-; There's nothing much I know....
I found the news at http://www.the-magicbox.com/ . What do you guys think about a possible sequel/movie? Or is the whole thing a complete hoax?

Reptile 09-25-2003 06:22 PM

It better be true...never played the game, but I hear good things. Hoax? Have no clue.

Facsimile 09-27-2003 07:20 AM

The 'Poll of the Day' on GameFAQs was about it, so I think it's true. Personally I love FF7. It's my favourite Final Fantasy, but I would put money on this sucking arse, for reasons of
1. Just take a look at The Spirits Within
and
2. There is no way it could live up to FF7.

Cloverfield 09-27-2003 06:07 PM

Goddamn bloody hell. I am almost having convulsions at this news. I did some further searching, and it does seem official, as it's on major sites like IGN and was apparently announced at the Toyko Game Show which was just on. All the good things always happen when I'm offline. Haha.

OMFG ... Sephy will be returning ... I'm drooling at the thought of this ... hell, seeing him in modern CG splendor will be unbelievable. Oh man, this is just going to be ... so wonderful for a fan-girl like me. I'd better shut up now. LOL

Abe Babe...

salty pretzils 09-27-2003 06:27 PM

I know, it's so exciting! *grins* I'm an absolute FFVII maniac, you see....
Do you think they'll include the optional characters in it? Because I'm just going to die if they don't, they really added to the story for me. Yuffie was cute, although annoying, and Vincent was a really cool addition to the crew.
I just hope they don't make it really crappy, like Facsmile says. But even if they do, I'll buy it anyway....

Cloverfield 09-27-2003 06:55 PM

Apparently it's a DVD only thing ... not a game. So all CG. *drool*

And here's a reason why looking on Japanese sites is a good thing. OMFG ... I did drool for real when I saw this. Oh god he is so sexy!!! Sephy of course!!! Although they changed his hair a bit, as it doesn't stick up as much.

There is just so much Square news this week too ... KH2 screens, KH on GBA, FFXII website launched.

Abe Babe...

salty pretzils 09-27-2003 07:13 PM

Hmm, which site did you get that from, Abe babe? I'm trawling through quite a few at the moment... :fuzemb:
No, this obsession is probabbly not healthy. Repetitive strain disorder, here we come...

Cloverfield 09-28-2003 12:39 PM

LOL ... yeah, I have a really bad obsession. Oh well, it doesn't hurt me... but trying to read all that Japanese may just give me eye strain.

The site is http://www.watch.impress.co.jp/game/...030926/se1.htm ... but you won't find that on any English website (at least I haven't yet). All the English websites just have the same images (damn they cut part of Sephy's face in half ... and I know there's a full version out there as I saw it on thumbnail) and information.

Also, here is a translation of an interview that appeared on a Japanese site from the creators. I found it on another forum I occasionally visit.

:

From this interview:
http://www.videogamerx.net/bbs/view.php?id=vx01&no=2296

Kevlar translated:

Many staff members are those who had worked on FF7

Chose movie form, as sequel games are just too common

Worked on for 1 1/2 years so far

around 60 minutes of movie

Development cost is reasonable (compare to Final Fantasy: The Spirit Within)

Square Pictures is long gone so it isn't helpful. However, learnings from Square Pictures are helpful

Why no remake? FF7 is playable in PS2 (since PS1 software can be played), so there is no need for a "remake".

It will be available in summer 2004

A bit more from that interview:

2 year after the events of FFVII. Many people are suffering from "Meteor"-itis (whatever it may be... some left-over problem from Meteo). Cloud has chosen lonely life.

(voice of a little girl)

One day, (we) used power

So the star (planet) is still alive

But many people became stars

Many hearts became stars

... and (we) thought nothing was going to happen...

(Cloud is riding a bike)

(A man in silver hair appears... )

(Sephiroth's theme plays)

Cloud: I can't be forgiven. I want to be forgiven

(in front of a grave) Cloud: I will live your share of life, too.. so I had decided...

(a man sitting on a rocking chair)

(a man in silver hair is shown)

(Sephiroth disappears behind flame)
It sounds like the second part is describing some kind of promo movie that may have been shown at TGS ... it all sounds really interesting.

Abe Babe...

SeaRex 09-28-2003 02:28 PM

I'll see it. I did love FF7, after all. And hey, there's no WAY it could be as bad as The Spirits Within, right? Right?! Heh... heh.

I seem to remember an FF7 anime a while back, which was teh s uck.

salty pretzils 09-28-2003 04:25 PM

Wow, thanks Abe Babe!
Hey, I never saw the spirits within but I get the impression it was really bad, huh....
FF7 Anime? I remeber hearing about a FF4/5 anime, but FF7....

SeaRex 09-28-2003 11:42 PM

Maybe it was 4 or 5. To be honest, I don't remember.

The Red Muse 09-29-2003 05:16 AM

OMG! I, like, really hope FFVII:AC is gonna be a sequel...!

Eh... I'm shaking!
Ooh! And maybe--Square finally decided to revive Aeris! Whoo!

I'm still shaking... kewl...

Facsimile 09-29-2003 09:40 AM

Oh my god! The picture of Cloud and Sephiroth is so shit! They've made it crap already! Where has Cloud's hair gone? It's tiny! Sephiroth's hair looks really bad too.
That preview or whatever sounds good. But that picture.
And if they dare revive Aeris. I'm gonna... I'm gonna...
Her's was the most moving death in video game history. Reviving her will take that all away.

Xavier 09-30-2003 03:57 PM

I tought this could interest some fans...

the article said clearly it was only a film of 60min and not a game. It will take place 2 years after the fall of Sephiroth

Cloverfield 09-30-2003 04:03 PM

Ah, you beat me to it Xavier. I have been goddamn drooling all over that pic all day. I didn't think that CG could look so good. This is just better than I imagined. Sephy just looks so wonderfully sexy in that pic. And I don't care if you guys think I'm obsessive for saying so, I just can't shut up about this.

I really liked FF:TSW ... I saw it 16 times in the cinema. :D

As for the anime, there was an anime based on FFV (I think), and yeah it was pretty bad apparently. Also there is FF Unlimited which is getting a US release in October.

Facsimile 10-01-2003 09:43 AM

I see it now! Sephiroth looks like Marylin Manson!
And Clouds hair is way too short.
Otherwise it looks good.

I do not agree!

it's not because someone is pale and have long hair that he looks like that:

I do not see any relations

Ashe 10-02-2003 04:12 AM

Hello salty pretzils. Wow... that does look very nice!!!!! I have never played FFVII, but I would like to see the DVD very much. The graphics look very wonderful like the FF movie. I would even say that it is better than my FFX. But Cloud does look like a girl and Sephiroth looks like very, very scary. *hides from Abe Babe*

Facsimile 10-02-2003 10:14 AM

Lol Xavier. Maybe not that picture...

Agreed Yuna, Cloud does look like a girl. He used to be 'tuff'.

No problem, but I'm a big Marilyn Manson fan, so I couldn't tolerate such a mistake :fuzwink:

Joshy 10-03-2003 02:15 AM

I dont really like Marilyn Manson... did you know he broke his own pelvis bones so he can... you know? Do it yourself... and all his songs are weird and stuff..... Satan is less scary then him.... *shudders*

Facsimile 10-03-2003 02:23 AM

No, he had his ribs removed. Hehe, it's like Chinese Whispers. But I don't think anyones really sure if that's true or not.
I like his music, from what I've heard. Except his cover of Tainted Love. The Living End will always hold the crown for that one.

Xavier 10-03-2003 06:00 PM

best rumor about him, it's true...
but he said himself it wasn't true :fuzwink:

Facsimile 10-04-2003 07:03 AM

Nothing major, but I'll post it anyway.

FF VII: Advent Children backgrounder

News

Details on Square Enix's upcoming CG movie appear in the Japanese press. Here's what we know.

The first news of Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, an upcoming CG movie using characters from the franchise's first appearance, was revealed at a Square Enix press conference during the most recent Tokyo Game Show.

This week, additional information on the game was publicized.

Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children will take place two years after the original PlayStation Final Fantasy VII game. The world looks to be peaceful, having avoided destruction, but inhabitants have begun suffering a new physical malaise called Seikon-Shoukougun.

Cloud has been living alone up to this point. While Sephiroth was seen in promotional footage at the Tokyo Game Show, it is not known if he has been resurrected or if his appearance was a dramatization from Cloud's past.

Two mysterious characters are seen in Advent Children--one is a gray-haired man in a tight black costume (actually seen fighting duels with Cloud during various promotional events at TGS). Another mysterious character is covered in white linen from head to toe, seen sitting in a wheelchair. No hints have been given as to who this character is.

The game's creative staff is listed as the following:

Director: Tetsuya Nomura (Final Fantasy VII character designer, Kingdom Hearts director)
Co-Director: Takeshi Nozue (Final Fantasy IX CG designer, Final Fantasy X animation director)
Producer: Yoshinori Kitase (Final Fantasy X director)
Co-Producer: Shinji Hashimoto (Final Fantasy VIII producer)
Script Writer: Kazunari Nojima (Final Fantasy X script writer)
Art Director: Yusuke Naora (Final Fantasy X art director)
Music Composition: Nobuo Uematsu (Final Fantasy series music composer)
Mech and Creature Design: Takayuki Takeya (Anime "Heat Guy J" mech designer, freelance figure artist)

Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children is scheduled for release in the summer of 2004.

I think the film appears extremely cool. Though I would have preferred Sephiroth's hair to be spiky, as I love that hair-do. Can't wait, and I suppose when they say Summer 2004, they mean Summer 2004 in Japan?

As for Marilyn Manson. He should just take up Yoga, or some other stretching and meditating practice.

And as a Sephiroth obsessed fan-girl, I couldn't tolerate the mistake either!!! Sephy and MM don't look anything the same. The only similarities I can see is the evilish look on their faces, and the kind of dark area under the eyes. Other than that there is no simiarity. Plus Sephy is helluva sexy!!!

I'm thinking of doing a FF:AC website, but not sure if I will (or more so, not sure if I'll have time). I just went and registered www.adventchildren.net and www.ffadventchildren.com anyways. :D

There's also a 45MB trailer out there on the web for it. I don't have the URL at the moment ... but get it. It's awesome!!! Even if it was taken by a video camera. LOL

My only concern is that Sephy will just be a flash back in the movie. I hope he's more than a flashback, as I want to see more of him!!! I think he should feature somewhat though if he's included on the promotional poster display. I get a feeling that he might be the guy in the wheelchair though ... although I don't like to see that my Sephy is crippled, at least he would still be alive. And it would make sense if he came out of lifestream, as Cloud was in a wheelchair too when he came out of lifestream.

Facsimile 10-09-2003 03:12 AM

It's been a while, so could you just remind me how is finally defeated? All I remember is the fights where he keeps summoning that damn meteor and it takes forever to watch the animation. Do they kill him, or what?

Cloverfield 10-09-2003 06:18 AM

After the battle with Safer Sephiroth (not sure why he's called that ... LOL, but the One Winged Angel form), Cloud goes down inside Lifestream for the final battle. Sephiroth is now removed from the Jenova cells and is just a normal man. The battle goes the same no matter what you do ... Cloud will always use Omnislash and defeat him in one go. You see blood pouring down Sephy's face and then he well, kind of dissapears is destroyed (man I hate that).

Abe Babe...

Facsimile 10-09-2003 08:11 AM

Oh yeah! I love that blood scene, although I also like Sephiroth. It reminds me of how great that game really is.
