Just finished a few characters.

I've been laying out a few characters for my two comic worlds recently. Oh joy. Fun. Frustration. Etc.

EDIT: F*ck. Comcast is being a bastard. Let me see if I can't fix these up.

EDIT2: OK, screw it. Yeah, that's right. Screw you, Comcast. I'll just upload these damn pictures.

SeaRex 09-15-2003 09:29 PM

First off, this is Wasabi. He, along with Ci-Ci, Cicada, and Patches, are from a messed up comic I have yet to name. Wasabi is a computer virus. Or rather, the organic manifestation of a computer virus.

Mac the Janitor 09-16-2003 12:17 AM

Dude, don't scare me like that again. Those edits in your first post made me worry that I wasn't going to see some of your stuff.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE your artwork, SeaRex. I cannot express to you how awesome your style is. All the characters you've posted in the past (and ESPECIALLY WASABI) look absolutely PERFECT...I can't say this enough times...I LOVE LOVE LOVE your stuff. Oh man.

Take me, SeaRex.

You know, my artwork style is quite similar to yours...except yours are like 100 times better...

Fez 09-16-2003 03:43 PM

damn thats good...

Silversnow 09-16-2003 06:19 PM

Wasabi looks like an evil doctor ready to cut someone open. "You won't feel a thing!", "Cool! Let's see if I can make his leg twitch like that again!" and so on. He's well drawn, so when will we see the comics?

SeaRex 09-16-2003 06:47 PM

Aww... thanks guys. Especially Mac. I expect you over at my place by 12. Bring the jelly.

Silver, you will see the "comics" as soon as I get all of the story and characters down. In other words, it may be a while.

This next one is a pin-up with (from left) Patches, Cicada, and Wasabi. The poses are kinda awkward and a little stiff... but that's OK. I just wish I could draw the "shine" on leather. That would make Wasabi's boot/glove combo look so badass.

Reptile 09-16-2003 07:19 PM

Man, those images will haunt my dreams. Thats great work. I love 'em all!

SeaRex 09-16-2003 09:29 PM

All of the following characters will be from the "Loki Slays The Wicked!" story.

This is Aftiel, the Patron Angel of Twilight (mythologically accurate) and sister of Leliel (completely made up). I wanted Aftiel to look a little creepy, but cute at the same time... unlike Leliel, who was more creepy than cute (I drew her with stitched eyes, horns, and a little devil tail). I don't know. I guess she looks the way a spooky talking angel/doll would look; fecked up her tail and little stubby legs, though...

When I look at, she looks like she wants a hug or something... :p

SeaRex 09-17-2003 06:45 PM

This is Israfel, the Patron Angel of Music. He "kidnapped" Serendipity from Heaven... which set off a large chain of events in "Loki Slays The Wicked!"

I'm still tweaking with his markings and whatnot, so bare with me.

SeaRex 09-18-2003 11:51 PM

And lastly, there's this guy. Don't make me tell you his name. If you can't figure it out, feel free to shoot yourself. I just wipped this one up one night... he'll only play a minor roll in "Loki Slays The Wicked!"

The only character I have yet to fully draw out is Serendipity the Muse. She's the most anime-influenced and "shapely" of my characters... and is therefore the hardest to draw.

But the following isn't Muse; it's Jesus, baby.

Reptile 09-21-2003 09:40 AM

Those a supa! Is that all you have done?

SeaRex 09-21-2003 12:02 PM

It's all of the serious stuff I've done since summer.

I should be done with Muse in a few days... if I get the time.

Fez 09-21-2003 04:33 PM

how long does it take you to do each pic Rex? they look like they were done quite fast, like a cartoon animater would draw them.

I take it you've never inked a drawing.

Inking's tough. Very tough. You have to be very careful and precise; one teeny mistake and you have to start all over.

They look like they take 5 days at minimum. Trust me, SeaRex's inking skills are VERY good. There's no way I could ink a drawing like that.

It takes a long time to get them that professional looking; give him some more credit, man.

SeaRex 09-22-2003 01:21 AM

Mac just about summed it up.

It takes me one night (anywhere from 30 minutes to 1 hour) to pencil the drawings, and another night (usually 1 to 3 hours) to go over the drawing once with ink, and over again with a thicker tip to give it my "signiture" bold line look. That's not mentioning erasing the pencil and adding final touches.

Trust me, I wish I could draw it cartoonist fast.

I'll have Muse and David the music buff up by next sunday... work schedule permitting. I promise. :D

Fez 09-22-2003 12:38 PM

they are incredible though. I take back what i said about them being rushed, if it offended you.

TheKhanzumer 09-22-2003 10:40 PM

More cool characters, keep it up! You should draw some scene type stuff... I'm interested in seeing something that tells us more about these characters.

SeaRex 09-24-2003 06:55 PM

No offense taken, ferill. I didn't think you meant it as an insult or anything.

Well, sorry to disappoint folks (as if), but the Muse thing just ain't happenin'. I spent 2 days working on a drawing of her and it completely sucked. Totally sucked. What's even worse is that I sketched a pic of her at school in like... 5 seconds, and it looks exponentially better than the one I actually put some effort into. That's just... sad. I give up.

So, I've decided to set the "Loki Slays the Wicked!" story line to the side and work on my other story. I just need a name for the comic and another spooky-sounding female name and I'm ready to go. I want the name (of the comic) to have something to do with the negative effects of television, the net, or other media... I'm still pondering... feel free to suggest some names.

I don't know why I bothered to type all of this out. No one will read it. Oh, and a pin up pic with the characters of this "other" comic is on it's way; this time I'm serious. :p

SeaRex 10-06-2003 09:14 PM

(Sorry for double posty again)

Well, I guess a week turned into 2 weeks and a half. I blame society.

I've decided to call the comic "No Resistance" (Cool? Lame? Yes? No?). Next on agenda: basic scenery and finishing touches on story... then it's finally on to the finished product. I make it sound so easy, don't I? BTW, this will be the last (art) posty in this topic, so make those replies count people! :D

It took me 3-4 hours, counting computer editing, to finish this one. From left: Patches, Wasabi, Ci-Ci, Cicada (top), and Chicago. Group hug!

Mac the Janitor 10-06-2003 11:25 PM

It's so darn pretty! I LOVE it! Aargh!

Your characters always seem to have so much personality drawn into them...especially Wasabi. Also see that you've mastered the leather reflection thing...thooper job.

*tips his hat to SeaRex*

Why will this be your last art post? WHY?!

TheRaisin 10-09-2003 03:03 AM

Oh... my... god...

These... are incredible. Are you a Jhonen Vasquez fan by any chance? Y'know, Invader Zim, Squee, Johnny the Homicidal Maniac? "Cause your artwork definitely looks Vasquez-inspired. And a Furikuri fan on top of it all? Kick ass! You have won my respect, nay!, my devotion! Rock on!

SeaRex 10-09-2003 06:44 PM

No worries, Mac. I'll still post art; just in a different topic. This one was primarily for pin-up thingies of characters.

Yeah, you're dead on, Raisin Dude. I'm a big Vasquez fan. I was flipping the channels one day, when I came across Invader Zim. The style instantly became an inspiration. After a while, Dave (D.I.) and Dylan (Melvin) recommended that I read JTHM. If it wasn't for JTHM, I probably wouldn't be trying to make a comic (or even using ink for that matter)... as I had just assumed that most western comics had the same "super hero" story line. JTHM of course proved me wrong, and I've been reading similar comics ever since.

I've always loved anime, too. Furi Kuri is one of my favorites.

I personally see my style as being more similar to Jamie Smart (creator of "Bear"), but I guess it does have Vasquez influence.

TheRaisin 10-09-2003 09:52 PM

Ah-ha!

I knew it! Wow, another Vasquez fan! Sweet! You meet such cool people on the Web! Additional exclamation marks!!!!:D :D :D

SeaRex 10-18-2003 11:28 PM

That's all I've done since the last pin-up. You may be able to find my old topics in Necrum, but I doubt it.

I've been working on scripting. It's so much harder than I thought... it's extremely difficult to space character action between dialogue. All the conversations seem to lack any sense of... well... a real conversation. If anyone knows anything about comic book scripting, I would really appreciate the help.

It will be a while before I post anything else, so I'm afraid you'll have to sit tight. I want to finish two or three strips (and we're talking like 3-6 pages each) before I start a new topic.

Um...sorry, sligslinger, but I think SeaRex did it much better in that last inking he posted...

Sekto Springs 10-26-2003 01:38 AM

sorry, i missed that image, besides, i whipped up the boot drawin in about 3 seconds (no exaggeration) sorry, i didn't see it

Al the Vykker 10-26-2003 11:50 AM

Remember Searex there is no problem double posting in Fan Corner, as long as its for posting chapters for a story if no one replies. Or if you are posting/uploading more artwork. Double posting comments in here is still considered spam though. But no worries you were following all the guidelines still.:)

Anyways, I really like this style you are using, and all your work looks great. I guess I would be a fan of Vasquez because of how much I liked Invader Zim.

Fez 10-26-2003 05:36 PM

these are just so amazing. I wish i could draw like that.
