It seems that everyone wants Oddworld to either be a gothic place, or a Sienfeldesc comedy hour, but there is no gray. I've always thought of it as black comedy. Its definately a foreboading place, it is a parody of our world. No doubt about it, it's a very dark land, Abe was a tormented slave with his mouth sewn shut, remember, and his voice, and the way he only spoke in rhymes (at least in AO) was creepy. Start up AO, and i romise that "This is RuptureFarms..." will give you a slight chill.

But OI took this and made it comical. Abe is a sort of easygoing guy, slightly scatterbrained, and generally funny. Remember when he peeks into the Glukkon room and gasps, and his lip-stitches stretch about 3 feet? And just the thought of when Alf says "Shut up stitch lips!" while guzzling brew in AE makes me smile. The Glukkons, with their ridiculous mafia voices and lack of arms are a perfect satire of today's businessmen. Domt make me start on Bigface or Elum.

Anyway, my point is that Oddworld is a sort of dark comedy, and people need to get over its darkness, and see the light, or to stop being so blinded, and realizes tthat the combination is what makes Oddworld so cool.

I agree that it should be a Black Comedy, like it was in AO, but I didn't see the Black Comedy in AE, all I saw was poor attempts at humour, which basically fell flat. I don't think AO would be as good if it was just Gothic, but we've already seen that it is also not good when it loses its epicness [in AE]. Just my POV...
