My first Art Thread!

This is the first artwork that I will be sharing with you guys. This is phase two of a 3 part art assignment for my art class. The next phase after this will be finishing most of the shading, to make it totally life like but for now enjoy Phase 2!

Wow, great work, Al.

Is it a portrait of someone specific, or just a general girl?

ShadowVyk 09-02-2003 12:44 AM

if you ever want me to do some enhancing and filters, just send me a pm.

Nice job Al. Cudos. Everyone seems to be drawing people these days and trying for realism... maybe I should too.

Some crits (as per usual). The placement of the ear is a tad high. The fingers need some work, and the light/dark contrast needs to be more... contrasting :D so as to better define some forms and give a better sense of where the light source is.

Dont worry yet, this is only the second phase, and I'm not done shading or anything yet, plus I will be prounouncing the curve in the fingers more as I shade further, and put on the finishing details. Right now I am darkening a lot, and I'll scan the finished project later.

Here is the almost finished project. The fine details, or small problems I have faced will be attempted to be worked out tomorrow so here is PHASE 2 1/2! :p

Well, when I get the picture back (after its graded) I'll scan the final version, so you may see the subtle changes that were made.

Thats a very well done Contour line drawing. very good variations in the line usage between thick and thin. Great job buddy!:D

Here is a suggestion for you, if you want your drawings to be darker and stand out more, use a 2B pencil. Ive learned conceptual artist and Illustraitors and I am talking professionals, use that type of pencil all the time. Because one it makes a nice dark line and two its soft enough to make some great gradients and values with. Its like the perfect pencil for artist and thats what some art directors suggested for me to use at least. Ive job shadowed professional Illustraitors before, and thats why I know. I use a 2B all the time. An Art Director would usually use the 2B Pencil because of the professional look you can get from it. You can use any pencil, but if you want a nice professional result, a 2B is the way to go.:D

it just keeps gettin better and better!

I might have to take a picture with a digital camera because it seems when I scan the picture up, it lightens up all of it greatly, and it loses its affect when shown after its scanned. Mainly it seems to weaken the appearance of value.

Anyways Ill try and get a picture taken of the final piece, and Ill take a picture of my final project. It was a painting I did of Mordor from Lord of the Rings.
