Forum Stereotypes

I found this while browsing a forum I regularly visit. It's a website dedicated to uncovering all the different Stereotypes there are in discussion forums.

Upon looking at quite a lot of them, I can say for sure that these stereotypes do fit people on here :p

Enjoy: http://www.winternet.com/~mikelr/flame1.html

It saddens me to see that people who spend all day literating the characteristics of forum types really do exist. So I am going to have a stab at this Bovine Anus Cake Purveyor.

It is fairly obvious that he is attempting to make himself look better than "all the others" while masking his hapless attempts with humour, to make his attack look indeliberate, and therefore giving an air of genuinity.

His use of "big long words" suggest an attempt to make himself appear more intelligent than those he describes. But instead of looking intelligent, he's looking through a dictionary. This is made painfully obvious through his ability to spell "antidisestablishmentarianism", and his mispelling of the word "archive".

SeaRex 08-26-2003 07:25 PM

I seem to fit into the "Tireless Rebutter" category... but none of them match me perfectly.

Al the Vykker 08-26-2003 07:55 PM

Dunno, maybe Eagle Scout. I try not to get into huge debates anymore on the forums, unless I feel that my presence or input is needed.

Codek 08-26-2003 08:04 PM

Prediction:

All mods will compare themselves with Eagle scout because their heads are in a certain smelly valley.

All the argumentative jerky ones will just point there way to the Kung Fu Master, because that makes their shit look honorable.

All the quite stupid ones will say that they are Loopy's, cause they think that would make their stupidity funny or something.

Well honestly, I just feel that I am closest to Eagle Scout. Everything else just seems foreign because my life doesnt revolve around just being here.

I dont know about what others think of me, but I try to be kind to newcomers, and help out when someone asks. Plus I only do argue when I feel its required, and just for me to do so.

Codek 08-26-2003 08:37 PM

I know, it's sickeningly nice.

GrigtheSlig 08-26-2003 10:40 PM

Honestly, i'd have o say i'm a mix of Jerk, Rebal Leader, and Palooka. I'm so sad! :crying:

Majic 08-26-2003 11:23 PM

Royal. Nothing else seems good... Though I regognized quite a few people here. Spickin' examples.

O yea, and Death, you have quite a few;)

Codek 08-26-2003 11:32 PM

I am like none of those examples, the reason for this being that I don't take the forums as a battle ground.

Sorry to dissapoint, but this is where I go to chat, discuss and socialise digitally. I don't intend for people to misunderstand me, have a problem with me and get in arguments with me.

I would have to agree. This forum wasnt designed as a battle ground. It was designed as you said a social gathering to discuss ideas, and also a lot of it was just based as center for all Oddworld Fans to talk and chat about Oddworld and anything else.

If you want to have real huge battles arguements thats for a different type of forum, or real life discussions I guess.

oddguy 08-27-2003 12:53 AM

This is me.............well, minus the being an old lady and being a flame warrior in the first place. :fuzblink:

Very interesting but no time to look through... i'll look through it later.

Alcar 08-27-2003 05:21 AM

There are too many Warriors that share common traits with myself, to name them all here.

I did notice however his use of 'big' words. Though, I genuinely believe he is a veteran of many forums and isn't some twelve year old child making it all up.

I thought it was quite obvious that the warrior theme was merely a pretense through which the characters were presented. I've never been to a Forum where flaming is requisite, and I've never observed any admin like the 'stereotype' presented at this place, but I know that there are people around the OWF that display personality traits of several of these observed characteristics. We've had a couple of Godzilla-types, that's for sure.

The reason people are going to be so likely to choose themselves as Eagle Scouts is becuase OWF is full of them. We don't hate newbies here, not by default at least, and the only stereotype to do so is the Eagle Scout. Not one of us is actually one of these characters. They're just characteristics which can be seen in us.

And I don't care if the author uses a dictionary and/or thesaurus, at least he's broadening the vocabulary of the place.

Admin cause I have to be. LOL But probably more so Nanny I guess. I didn't really find one that is just me, like others, bits of some.

I think he delibrately tried to use long words anyways, to make it seem like a glossary or something like that. It kind of makes sense when you look at how it is made overall.
