Steef will be an exploreing type of game as Oppose to a puzzle game
If any of you are woundering Steef will not be a Puzzle solveing game like previous games before. There might be some puzzle elements in it but its mostly going to be an exploreing game.
It says it on the X-Factor. |
I have no problem with that. I think that you probably have to solve the puzzles and you have to explore the area to find the puzzley things.
|
I HATE IT!! First they ruin this Steef thing with their Salamdnders Or what they are!!
And most of the creatures looks like fat Low-polugon creatures... They destroyed the last little bit of oddworld there was left. |
Keep in mind this is a story different from Munch and Abe's.
Am I right here? They could be going in a totally different direction here......starting from scratch again on a game. Hopefully September will shed more light. |
You can't assume anything T-Nex because we don't have the game yet. Keep in mind everything we saw was filmed a year ago so that could be different now. Plus remember those hundreds of sligs moveing across that field? I have to admit thats very Oddworld like. Oddworld is about ingrating the story in gameplay.

Exploring is my absolute favorite kind of game play. So if Steef contains a lot of it ... then that is awesome. The more exploration and the more I can get lost, the better!!! :D
Abe Babe... |
Nobody's yet drawn any parallels with the new 'exploring' game mechanic and the fans' desire to 'explore' the backdrops of the Abe games, which seems kind of strange. I'm not sure whether the shooting aspect will have a particularly Oddworld feel to it, though, which is a bit worrying. I hope it'll turn out for the best.
But I agree with T-nex, a lot of the designs we've seen so far are just not Oddworldian, but I should think most people here know that by now. |
I realy think that mix af exploration and FPS will be a great new experience, OWI doesn't have to do the same all over again
|
In terms of exploring I would like to see something along the lines of the orginal concept of MO, having multiple paths to an objective, and less linear gameplay. Multiple ways to complete a task, like in some RPGs.
|
I agree with Al; In terms of the next game I'd really love more approtches to solving things (it sounded so cool before MO came out) I would also love to explore deeply into Oddworld. I've always imagined what'd it would be like, lush cannyon-waterfall's with a rickety bridge to get across, dense pine forestes, etc..
|
Everyone seems to be talking about Steef as a FPS but I think thats unlikely. Sherry Mckenna (I think I spelled that right) has said in every interview I have read of hers that Oddworld is about taking games away from the violent FPS style.

Oddworld + Exploration = Mad fun. |
Very fun indeed! If OW4 is going to be a true exploration game, it may have the option the revisit levels. All the OW games so far have had a set path with no chance of returning. That would be cool if you could go back to levels and find new things.

Remember the FPS elements are only thus far for Steefs Crossbow(when firing it). Almost exactly how games such as Zelda Ocarina of Time worked on N64 for the bow and arrow shooting mode. I wouldnt mind having Steef be similar to the way that game plays out either.
Imagine this, still having the puzzle elements of previous oddworld games, adding a bit of FPS like classic games such as zelda, and adding large exploration and RPG like game options such as multiple paths, different objectives, etc. And non linear gameplay. Plus of course all the odd stuff that is Oddworld. Add those correctly, and youve got a great game, and an awesome oddworld game! |
Good points, Al.
FPS mode is good for crossbow, not the entire game.....just like you said. That's how I like it as well!:D I hope in future games a FPS option is availible for possessed sligs, etc. That would be awesome! -oddguy:fuzcool: |
Hopefully it will have the option of switching perspectives. As, for example, Spyro: The Dragon, you held the triangle button and you switched in the first person mode. (Only a comparison, not saying Oddworld is anything like Spyro).
We can only hope this same concept will occur in Oddworld 3 ( Or OW4, whatever the hell you like :P). |
I'd like to see Oddworld 4 with extremely vast areas of exploration. As most of you would hopefully know, Adventure-Platformer games are my favourite, so naturally I want lots of adventure!
Also take into account that the designs for Oddworld 4 that were on X-Factor were designs that were in the development cycle for quite a few months. So anything could have changed. Alcar... |
Well ok, it would be fun if it was a exploring/puzzle game like MYST!! Exploring while you have to find things and put them together so they make sense!!
|
well as long as it has that dark feel like the first 2 games and a good story line
