splinter cell... such a mistake.

it has to be one of the bets games around, but i have noticed a very large mistake in the game...

Sam has the FN herstal F2000 as a weapon in most of the game. Now, for a secret agent, who is based for stealth operations, he would want to get in and get the job done quickly, without being seen. The F2000 is too much for a single agent to carry on such missions. He has a simple Five-seveN (FN herstal 5.7) hand gun. This is modular, meaning it can be fitted with all sorts of equipment. Being a 5.7mm hand gun, its rounds can go through 47 layers of kevlar, and since he is only sent into missions where he is not likely to face a tank, that should do just fine. All the F2000 really does is slow him down with unconditional weight. If in the event that he needs some more firepower, then he would be in a firefight where stealth isnt an issue, meaning he could simply just take an AK-47 from an enemy. It fires 5.56 rounds just like the F2000, and ammo wouldnt be an issuse, since most hostiles would have more ammo on them. I know the gun looks cool, but it is flawed, It was entered in a next-gen future military weapons convention, but is no where near the likes of the USA's OICW XM-29 or the Frenchs PAPOP. So this weapon wasnt even designed for stealth operations!

So my conclusion is that an agent like Sam would never need such a weapon. A silenced HP pistol would be just fine.

Hobo 08-20-2003 10:19 AM

The only reason i can think of is the sniper scope, and the pistol isn't automatic, which if you mucked up a stealth move, you can quickly fire silent automatic rounds. Where as with the pistol you're stuck with a semi-automatic, and if you mucked it up you'd have to either get a head shot or waste ammo.

ShadowVyk 08-20-2003 02:02 PM

I am in the www.splintercellhq.com and we have discussed this, you are right, but he surely needs some heavy equipment to take the bad boys down, that gun is like a last resort, and Im new to the forums and this is a really cool forum.

Xavier 08-20-2003 04:58 PM

welcome here ShadowVyk, have a great time and enjoy your stay

Majic 08-20-2003 06:47 PM

Being able to use a sniper scope would be the main asset, no? For example, if he had to pull off an assasination outside it would be quite useful, I think. Also, in a large shootout, it would take some time to search over a dead enemy to take ammo for a stolen AK47, right? Plus, getting an AK in teh first place would mean killing someone, which would mean killing someone. What if you wish to stay stealthy?

Thus, he saves time, can snipe, and can remain stealthy. Important, I think.

EDIT: O yea, hey Shadow Vyk. Have a good day.

Regardless its one of my favorite games for xbox. Such examples: Halo, Kotor, Morrowind, Munch, Ghost Recon, etc.

Anyways I know this is not entirely on the subject but does anyone know of a release date for Splinter Cell PT?

Also is the xbox live download level really good (kola cell)?

Mac the Janitor 08-20-2003 09:16 PM

Al, the Kola Cell mission is great. It looks even better than the initial levels, and it's a blast. I just got it from the OXM disc.

Lots of stupid laser security things though. They annoy me.

ShadowVyk 08-21-2003 12:14 AM

http://www.splintercellsource.com/in...reenshots.html PT will be out in 2004 I think in fall or something, just grab a magazine ;) And btw, KOLA CELL IS OUT ON OXM !?!?! HOLY CRAP, Cya guys im off to a book store

splinter cell... such a mistake.
Agreed. I borrowed it from my friend. Talk about shit. I could have borrowed DOA3 but noooo, I thought it would be good.

Well it was alright. Except when you are trying to get into the police place and there's no way in.

Fez 08-21-2003 08:13 AM

if sniping was a factor, then why send a stealth agent? You should send a sniper. But in any case where it is a one man operation, Sam should replace him pistol with a MP-7 its a pistol, sub machienegun and a small sniper rifle, and still has strong rounds.

Shadow agents (Sam Fishers) use the following rundown of armourment:

MP5 silenced variant.
FN P9.0mm. (with silencer)
FN H5.7mm. (silencer built in)
SOCOM pistol. (with muzzle flash repressor & laser sight)

But ferill is right, if they wanted a sniper, they would call one in.

A Dargunov Sniper edition and a good sniper can make a headshot from around 3.8 kilometers away without even being heard or seen. At a maximum distance of well over a mile and a half, that's so far away that you wouldn't even be able to see the windows on a building from that distance, let alone see or detect a sniper/muzzle flash.

Fez 08-21-2003 02:56 PM

FN p9.0mm? you mean the FN P90 (FN herstal project '90)
I havnt heard of the FN H5.7, do you mean the Five seveN? (also made by FN herstal)
The Dargunov is another one of those brilliant Russian guns, you can jump on it, throw it, sit on it, spit on it, throw it of a cliff, and it'll still work.

Codek 08-21-2003 08:17 PM

I mean what I say. The FN P90 is also known as the FN P9.0mm. This is either to do with standard 9mm nato ammo which it doesn't fire, or something to do with inner workings. Either way, it's the most increadable loading system I've ever seen. The shells actually turn a full 90 degrees into the firing chamber.

The project 90 is the best gun in the US military. Full stop.

It's VERY accurate, VERY powerful, and for an SMG of its power, its VERY small.

Yes, the Dragunov rocks.

And yes, its true, you can drive a car over it, immerse it in water, shove it in a tank engine, whatever, and it won't break.

Our club currently owns two Dragunovs, and they're probably the most accurate guns we have.

Strike Witch 08-22-2003 09:10 AM

Um??????

Um, I'm not a gun type of person, so half of the stuff in this thread is meaningless to me. However SC:PT is gonna be really cool! It even has a multi-player mode!

Fez 08-22-2003 12:32 PM

the 90 in FN P90 is to do with "project '90" which was back in 1990 when a new small arms project was to be made. It was to make a select fire weapon that can pierce all known body armour and was to be issued to non-military personell and for special forces missions. The guns put into this project was FN Herstal Five seveN and the FN P90, heckler & Koch entered their new MP-7 for project '90 as well. To this moment the military has not yet decided which of the 3 guns to issue. So the M9 is still the standard.

btw, Pandora tomorow does look amazing, and with multiplayer co-op via xbox live too!

Codek 08-24-2003 11:28 AM

I do know what the project 90 means. But I've seen it called the P9.0mm.

Any ideas why?

Al the Vykker 08-24-2003 03:29 PM

I personally think during the wait for PT, they should release another level like Kola Cell for the original Splinter Cell. Something that might lead up to the beginning of PT.

Fez 08-25-2003 08:20 AM

Kola cell is ont the internet ist it? you can download it from xbox live.

Where have you seen it called P9.0mm? It must be a mistake.

This is what I thought. I normally just call it the P90. And the herstal that Sam Fisher uses the FNH.

If you look carefully, you can see that Sam Fishers gun is actually just a P90, with the magazine in a different place, a slightly different trigger arrangement, a silencer and some weird gadgets on top. If I am right, the gun also accepts a generic M1 (correct serial?) grenade launcher.

Sam Fishers whole gun looks like a cross between a silenced P90, and a Steyr Aug. For those who are not familiar with either of these guns, imagine the automatic rifle from HALO, then put a silencer on it, then a grenade launcher.

Fez 08-26-2003 04:46 PM

ya the F2000. The handle is like the P90 so that it is always ambidextrous at any time. The grenade launcher is FN herstals low-velocity grenade launcher, but it can be fitted with the new XM303 less then leathal grenade launcher. It has the wrong scope ontop too. In the game it has the basic F2000 scope. But when you look through it, the sights are the same as the new computerised laser range finder module scope (direction, DFT, ect ect) which is made for easyer grenade aiming, but you cant use the nade launcher in scope. Does your club have any P90's?

Codek 08-26-2003 05:21 PM

Our club recently bought 4 P90's, and we have actually just finished converting them last week.

We were stunned at the amazing rate of fire, and the increably unconventional firing mechanism.

We want to buy P90s silencers, as we discovered the threads for the silencers inside the end of the muzzle while modifying the guns to take our special ammo.

Another thing that is optional for the P90, is a utility rig that fits on top of the P90's topframe, and in front of the topside mounted magazine. It's just a small frame that holds a flashlight, a laser sight and an electronic targeting system, that can detect range using sonar. We cant afford this gizmo just yet, but we've heard that it adjusts the laser sight so that it is always accurate.

This would make shooting mobile targets much easier.

Fez 08-28-2003 06:18 PM

you are so freakin lucky......

Codek 08-28-2003 06:28 PM

Yeah I guess I am.

If I am right here though, I think airsoft do an electric BB gun of the P90. It looks pretty good, you should get one.

Fez 08-28-2003 06:38 PM

you read my mind, i will be getting one ASAP once i have my job sorted out (stuffing junk mail in peeps letter boxes for a fiver a day!)

but i got a big list of airsoft's that i want:

electrics:
FN P90
MP5 SD6
HK G36C
M4A1
beretta M92F
Desert Eagle .50
Colt .45

single action:
1911 browning HP
P226
Hardballer 40 shotgun

i got ALOT of saving to do...

Codek 08-28-2003 06:46 PM

The desert eagle isnt an electric.

Buy from tokyo Marui.

The G36 and P90 have dummy ammo, which is cool.

The G36 also has a folding stock, but beware! The handle is way too small for fingers! (god only knows why on a life size replica!)

Get a SPAS 12 tactical, they are good quality.

The M4A1s are good, avoid the M16 though, they are a bit plasticated if you know what I mean.

Another good Airsoft gun is the Berreta Super Elitist. It's cheap and its high quality. (it also looks cool)

Also, Webley make fantasticly powerful short range pistols like Sig Sauers. I recommend these.

Beware, the MP5's drink batteries.

Other than that, exellent choices!

Fez 08-28-2003 06:51 PM

lucky i'm british...

my mate has the super beretta elitist its a good gun.

forgot to mention:

(this will be a hard one to find)
AKS 74U silenced (like MGS 2)

Codek 08-28-2003 07:09 PM

The Spetnaz is a good choice if you like AKs.

Fez 08-28-2003 07:12 PM

i cant ifnd an AKS 74U, so i'll just customise a spetznas at www.airsoftdynamics.co.uk
