The Doors in Oddworld!
Ok this is a strange topic I am writeing about but humor me for a little bit.:D You know all those doors and entrence ways in AO and AE? Well how is it or where is the logic since this is a game we are talking about here, at within those doors? I mean When Abe goes through a door he eather ends up somewhere in the background or there are like two doors that are on two levels and he would go through one and emerge from the other like as if he would transport from door to door. Its like he materalises through the door and ends up in a very different location all the time. I guess what I am saying is do you think OWI should try to maybe explane this in future games?
Where does Abe go when he enters a door? Whats batween the doors that allows Abe to emerge on the other side, a short tunnel that would be explaned in 3D? A teleporter that does the very thing I described and that the teleporters in AE are doors not yet finnished being built? Sure you would say to the next location but there has to be a logic. They should maybe have some sort of tunnel behind the door that goes to the next location or goes in the back ground. I understand the wells in how they work but the doors are rather puzzleing. |
doors are just like wells look n the barracks where ya save 3 muds and gain shrykkul, in the room wiith all the bombs after you destroyed the bombs youll see a door and in the backround youll see a strange kind of hall. abe walks trough that hall until he reaches the end of the door.

I don't think it really matters. Some doors, suck as those near the start of Monsaic Lines where you go on a small obstacle course, are obviously connected with short corridors or tunnels, but some like those in SoulStorm Brewery appear to lead into just a small dome-like nodule, excluding that possibility. I don't see why they need to be explained, at all. In fact, I'd rather like to see such things come back in future games, instead of the aweful teleporters that we in MO.

sorry... but is this intresting. Somethimes you simply have to admit there are things you will never know or understand
|
The doors could be fit with a small wormhole, but I think the only reason Abe moves so fast through those doors is because it would be way boring to wait for Abe to walk the entire way! :p And I think some doors are so far apart because it gives us a chance to see some more of Oddworld. I just love it when Abe walks through a door and then you have to zoom through a dark factory or a brilliant landscape to keep up with that blue guy! Don't you just love those little FMV's?! :D
|
I agree with Oddguy... I reckon they just fast>>forward the journey through corridors/stairs in between when he enters and emerges from the doors. Well, that's what I assumed when I first saw them.:fuzblink:

i dont beleive there is some transportation or anything here, i beleive it's just "something". they're not going to waste time showing logic when theres more important things neede to be done. This is where game rules over reality of the game, it's kinda like asking why Rayman has no limbs.
|
beacause hes strange anyway doors are fun
 |
why did you say that BBB, how are doors fun?
and rayman is no stranger than those "fun" doors |
i meanth that if you compare doors vs telporters thn doors would be more fun:fuzgrin: :D
|
well teleporters are more "fun" than doors, they make cool noises and flash alot, compare that to dissapearing and reapearing through doors with no visual or sound effects.
|
I still prefer doors to the teleports and their "fun" effects...
|
Telaporters in AE are fun not in MO.
|
I love the doors with mini-FMV's attached! Those have visual effects beyond compare with teleporters, but both things are in the same game, so I'm happy.
|
My in-game explanation would be that there are realitic tunnels, paths, etc... between the doors and that they aren't in the game because frankly nothing happens in them and they would be boring to just walk Abe through. So they aren't teleporters or anything, the transitions are just cut out of the game.

Thought you were talking about the band in the title. jk! I think there's nuttin' special about the doors, they're just... doors. And as someone else said, there are more important things to focus on than showing a little corridor between two doors. Now, if it were The Doors, that might be worth showing!:D

That's what makes AO/AE the coolest 2D game ever! 3D FMV's, but still extremely challenging 2D gameplay. I love 2D games! I still play Donkey Kong Country 2 on SNES! |
true... those little CG's made lot of the charm of AE and AO
somethimes it's the little details that make a great game |
