Some Forum Changes & Additions

Hey everyone, I thought I'd inform you of the changes to the forums. More specifically, the OIPT Forums. As most would know by now, the OIPT has been on halt for quite some time.

At the request of Mac the Janitor (the OIPT Oddlympics Manager) we have taken into consideration his requests and appropriate action has been taken. Mac wishes to restart the Oddlympics, which is perfectly fine.

Basically, the OIPT Forum has been renamed to the OIPT Oddlympics. As the OIPT is currently halted, all of the OIPT threads including the previous Oddlympics threads have been moved to an archive which is hidden, and only accessable by Abe Babe, Kaimana, Mac the Janitor and I.

We hope that with changing of forums, Mac will be able to carry out the neccessary actions for Oddlympics 2.0. At the moment, I can't tell you anything regarding the changes, but from what I have been informed of, it should be great.

Stay tuned for more information most likely from Mac :)

First off, I'd like to say thank you very much for the things you've done. Things are now perfect for starting the Oddlympics 2.0, with the exception of Death's mod powers. But other than that, this is absolutely perfect. Thank you very much Alcar and Abe Babe, you both have been very helpful and reliable.

As for the Oddlympics, Death is almost finished with the site, which will be located at Oddlympics.com. Once we are 100% done with the site, we will start the Oddlympics 2.0 off immediately.

I wasn't around for the first one, is there any beginners guide to Oddlympics?
And does the enterant have to be for Odd?(As you may not know, Adder is closer to a human than a Mud)

Codek 08-09-2003 04:29 PM

I would first like to publicly shame Alcar for rejecting to inform everyone that I am actually the assitant manager of the Oddlympics.

It is not just Mac the Janitor who is working on this, I am also playing a LARGE part in it. And I would appreciate it if Alcar would kindly adjust his first post to correct this error, as I do not appreciate being ignored despite my efforts.

I also do not appreciate the fact that my collegue had to mention me, he should not have had to take that trouble, as Alcar should by now know that I am the Assistant Manager. (He gave me my custom title)

On a lighter note, the website is coming along. I haven't got very far with it lately due to complications with my personal life. (I have had a few freinds staying at my place)

But as Alcar said (one of the few things he actually got right) is that there are ALOT of things we can't tell you because we want to keep it all a suprise! But rest assured the new Oddlympics will have plenty of cool new stuff to do.

I would just like to say, I resent the remark made by Alcar, that all the best news of the Oddlympics will be coming from Mac alone. This is NOT true. Both me and Mac play equal roles (or are supposed to) in the Oddlympics. I DO NOT wish to see literate mistakes like this again.

I would however like to thank Abe Babe and partly Alcar for changing the name of the OIPT forum.

I don't think we need a beginner's guide to the Oddlympics, as it's not all that complicated. The 2.0 rules will be on the site; all the info you'll need to participate is in there. But remember, if you don't understand a part of it, feel free to ask me or Death.

I don't quite understand what you mean in your last sentence, though. Could you please explain?

Yes, how very nice for you. But why is there any need to mention you. He was not making a post called 'These are all the Oddlympics people'. You may be doing very well there, but you take little things far too seriously.

Alcar 08-10-2003 08:16 AM

My original post has been edited

Originally, we both had disagreed on the idea of a sub-forum. Like I mentioned to Death, a level four forum was a no-no. It was, however Abe Babe that came up with the very cunning idea of making a level four forum private and hiding all the threads in there.

So all kudos should be directed to Abe Babe :)

Adder "the Fharcon HEIST" is/was/will not be a character that is from the same planet as all Oddworld characters.
Adder is from the planet Addvormahn (a creation of my own), and so is not a Mud, Gloukkon, slig, slog, slurg, meech, fleech, etc.

I just wanted to raise the question of interplanetary participation.

Well, actually, nobody can enter their own Oddlympians. We create them all, to have diverse stats and whatnot. Forumers then can bet on who they think will win in an event due to their stats, species, advantages and disadvantages. Whichever forumer has the most virtual moolah from betting at the end gets a special title.

Codek 08-11-2003 03:59 PM

Thankyou Alcar for making those changes to your first post, I appreciate that you took the time to understand my concerns there!

I was a little suprised I must admit, to see that after all the PMs, posts and stuff I sent to you, I had been missed like that.

But it's all sorted now. :D

Wil 08-11-2003 08:17 PM

Just out of interest, how is the winning Oddlympian determined? Is it decided from the beginning of the event, or is there an element of chance involved? Or worse, is this one of your trade secrets?

Mac the Janitor 08-11-2003 08:53 PM

Death and I just spent the past few days creating and refining the "secret" process that will be used to determine the winner of each event. Of course, if we made this little system public, then people could use it to their advantage by already knowing who wins...so I guess it is secret.

Codek 08-11-2003 09:25 PM

The elements of the game that define the winner, are relative to what we say the game will mostly envolve. Stealth, endurance, speed, whatever.

The winner of the event is the Oddlympian that crosses the finish line first, obviously. But the process inbetween that defines the places of the Oddlympians is totally top secret.

Even if somebody spills the beans about how we work it out, there would still be absolutely no way of telling the winner, as each event will be complete different.

Also, niether myself nor Mac will know who wins the event until the betting ends. So we will not be open to any bribes I'm afraid! :D

Alcar-

About the hidden OIPT Archive...I was viewing Who's Online, and it said a guest was viewing the thread "The OIPT Lounge", which is located only in the OIPT Archives...is this a problem, or is my computer just being weird?

No it was most likely viewing an error message :) Although in vB3, error messages are shown on Who's Online, so we won't have so many mistakes made with guests.

So it will be "Guest... viewing error message"? That's cool, kinda what I expected.

PS: Don't beta test vB3, it's full 'o bugs.
