Welcome to the Forums, Benicio. Make sure you read the Forums and official FAQs, and also the rules.
As a game, Munch's Oddysee is great fun to play, and provided you're willing to put the effort in, has great replay opportunities. Having owned it for months, I still enjoy trying to play through killing as few Sligs as possible and so forth. Graphics are superb, even though they only harness a fraction of Xbox's capabilities, and FMVs are beautifully done. There are a few niggles - linear gameplay, an awkward camera, erroneous buffer zones - it's still a great game. However, if you fell in love with the first games more because of the Oddworld universe, the characters and overall style, then MO does leave a bit to be desired. This game is a lot more cartoony, and uses more comic relief than dark humour. Several characters would seem to behave out-of-character compared to the Abe games, and poor AI makes the whole experience a lot less realistic than before. Level designs tend to rely less on puzzle-solving, more blasting or running your way past enemies, while the overall story seems improperly explored and fragmented. My conclusion: still an essential game in the Oddworld series, and absolutely worth buying if you're an Xbox gamer. If you weren't raised on all the previews, you won't miss all the content that never made it to the final version, but most fans have gotten past its inadequacies. Welcome once more. |
hmmmm, that kinda sucks. i liked the puzzle element of the AO and AE games.
oddworld is such a great fantasy setting...i thought they had done a good job making it a dark comedy. thanks for the welcome :D |
well if your into the last two games the most, MO may not be the most "delectable" choice, sorry. it's short, easy, and lacks the great oddness of the last games, sure it has new cool stuff, but it didn't really fill up your odd guage. but it is a good game, many new things to see, un'd velcome to zee forumz!

As the others have said MO had fallen short of its earlier expectations but all in all if your a true fan of the Oddworld Universe you should be able to see through its short commings and enjoy the game for its beauty and creativness. However I glad to say that the next game, Oddworld4 (tittle pending), is looking great from what they've seen and it seems that even Lorne was dissappointed with how MO turned out and Im sure OWI is doing everything possible to be what it was ment to be...
Yes, and welcome to the fourms.:fuzwink: |
I think you three summed it up quite well for him, but Ill add my two cents also.
I personally liked MO, its a great game, but there was some other things that disappointed me. I was looking forward since its announcement of the more lifelike, living breathing oddworld, that was a full simulation, in which there was no set path to get to your final objective. Story would be incorporated in both gameplay and cg, and your actions would affect your story, your path, and your destiny, as well as all the world around you. Example, mudokons are working for you in a factory. They are thirsty and on their break hour they go to the nearby vending machine to get something to drink. Munch uses his head port to turn off the vendo, and the mudokons start getting thirsty, they start working less, or worse, they get mad, throw fits, and eventually start going through withdraw until you turn it back on, and try and sort out the labor problems youve just created. Note though, there is a lot that was still cut out of the game, characters, creatures, certain plots, levels, etc. List goes on for a long time. Hopefully if hand of odd is ever made that similar to how the gameplay works, with the exception of being able to choose your sides industrial or native. So in the end, MO is still a great game, a good oddworld game, basically an incarnation of the first two into 3d put tweaked in several areas. What it wasnt and what disappointed fans looking for something totally new, was that it didnt end up being a full simulation of oddworld. Edit: Forgot to add welcome to the forums! |
:D good input. i'm lookin for previews of oddworld 4 now. i can't wait now, hehe.
thanks for the warm welcome, fellas...i'm surprised at the fan-base the oddworld series has...most people i talk to here didnt like the oddworld games...i think they're great. just saw a preview on ign....steef looks crazy :D |
Benecio,
Wecome to ze Forums! It seems to me that you weren't following up on the production of MO like us. We got a little dissapointed because we were expecting so much more. Even Lorne was dissapointed! We read up on every little tidbit of info we could find on the game during its production. That's why we were a widdle dissapointed. If you just finished AO and AE and want to try out MO, then I think you'll like it since you didn't have any previous knowledge of what it was meant to be. We still luv the game and encourage you to go out and buy it! :D |
I liked munch's oddysee myself. It was a good 3D game (was a bit short though). It doesn't have the 'how do you get past this bit' side of things but it is funny. I am busy tryin to go through to get the bad ending (yeah, evil me huh? well if you think i am evil i did perfect quarma :p)
