Load screen from AO

PC version, there's that doorknocker of some creature's face- I thought it was a glukkon but there's a curious throat pouch..
Now compare with that hunter guy chasing Steef....
Hmm...

Alcar 06-25-2003 06:22 AM

Could we please have a screen capture?

Alcar...

Xavier 06-25-2003 07:26 AM

like this?

(I know, it's in french)

haarnak 06-25-2003 08:16 AM

it's been a long time since i played abe's oddysee... and i had forgotten this strange guy on the first screen.... but what is he really? cause he came in the first game and then nothing... i don't think he is the hunter in steff's. but i might be wrong...

any idea??

Wil 06-25-2003 08:23 AM

Wow, intriguing similarity, but I think it's meant just to be a Glukkon, and that it's a coincidence. However, the turtle-hunter and the Glukkons do have similar facial structures, and we've already seen what could be said to be different evolutionary versions of Slogs and Mudokons, so who knows...

What gets me thinking is why that Glukkon has been given an almost angelic image.

Xavier 06-25-2003 08:23 AM

I think it's a kind of native glukkon or something, made when they were still spiritual people, before their alchemy periode

Oddsville 06-25-2003 01:10 PM

It remindes me of the the Elder Glukkon type things on early production scetches.

If we're talking about the past slotting into place relating to Steef, I just noticed this at Oddworld.com:

http://www.oddworld.com/images/topnav/wanted2.jpg

Notice how it has a Western theme to it? BTW, in case it's too small for you to read, it says

WANTED
SMART FOLK
That Can Make Them
Thar Polygons Move
AROUND REAL
FANCY LIKE
APPLY HERE

An early clue we all missed, perhaps?

Oddsville 06-25-2003 01:59 PM

Yes thats true Max, good eye! OWI seem's to like to stick to (lotta "to"s) a theme for each game, mabye a clue we should look out for in the next game after Steef.

Xavier 06-25-2003 06:27 PM

guess what... I have a larger version of it :D

Wil 06-25-2003 06:32 PM

Hahaha, you know that would be annoying if it weren't really funny and helpful. :p

Where on Earth did you get that?

Xavier 06-26-2003 10:23 AM

well, on Oddworld.com some months ago, when it was the first time on their homepage

BTW: if you look at the baground of the affiche you can see some design from the Oddworld Map

Sekto Springs 06-29-2003 03:07 PM

hey max, most of those pics on OWI's site are much bigger than they appear, they just shrunk them to make them more site compatible look at how big this intern pic gets when put on normal size....

Xavier 06-29-2003 04:13 PM

Another clue that we missed is in the "Raisins Rants". It highlighted the words "Discovery", "Channel" and "Watch". I felt kinda stupid that I didn't notice it. Take a look.

Sekto Springs 07-05-2003 11:01 PM

uh those words are highlighted too...

Wil 07-06-2003 07:33 AM

Several fans got that, actually. I know some who actually checked the calendar at the Discovery Site's website, but obviously didn't look hard enough.

Sal the Mudokon 07-07-2003 12:27 PM

I can't believe that the rants actually MEANT something! That' very, very cool... I'll have to look at them more closely from now on.

what about:

"Clue two is past due, too. You forgot about G...D...Zzzzzzz..."

????

Any ideas?

GENERAL DRIPIK!!!

...from the past? Forgotten? GD???

Holy Shizmo!

Xavier 07-07-2003 12:39 PM

there are plenty of ideas, just check this topic:

That picture does look a little like Steef, but I think long ago the Glukkons were actually spiritual...

Do you think Lorne has planned every character right from the start or only made them up as he went?!

Dipstikk 07-12-2003 01:58 AM

I don't think that's a neck pouch at all.
It looks like just some way for the neckless Glukkon to lead up to the design. I don't think it has any anotomical revelance whatsoever.

He planned their story and their general design... wich is more studied when they need it for the game

anyway that's my understanding

We're not talking about Steef, we're talking about the hunter guy chasing Steef, but I think it's pretty much certain that Glukkons were once spiritual.

I'm sure that the main characters and species were all planned from the start, but maybe additional creatures like the ones we're seeing in Steef are made up during development. Ratz and the Raisin were also created during the production of Munch's Oddysee, I think. Interestingly, I'm quite sure that Slurgs were planned from the start, even though they only appeared in Abe's Exoddus.

Xavier 07-12-2003 11:51 AM

you seem to know something intresting about the Slurgs Max, what's so special about them?

Wil 07-12-2003 07:03 PM

I don't know anything about them, I just have a quote from Paul O'Connor, which I can't find right now. I'll put it with the Slurgs article at TOE.

EDIT:
*curses* Damn, bloody double posting cack... *vulgar mumbling...*

Now, having posted the last Oddworld Christmas card in Xavier's Picture Request topic, I noticed a few more precursory nods in the direction that Oddworld 4 is taking, and this seemed to be the appropriate topic to blump back up. Damn double posting filters, though.

Now looking at it, the first thing that caught my attention were the arrows, which we hadn't seen in Oddworld before the Steef came along. It was only then I started looking a bit more, and I thought the font that 'Oddworld Inhabitants' is in looked rather Westerny. I am told, having consulted those about me, that it is not possible for a font to have a Western feel to it, but check it out for yourself. Then I saw the holes in the wooden wall and felt this had rather a Western flare to it. Plus the horns. Had we seen any horns on Oddworld before Steef came along? Yes, but the Guardians are extinct, and those ain't no Elum horns.

So, now I guess I have to wait until somebody wanders back this far in the Forum's histroy... *mumble, grumble*
