Spooce in later games

Would you like to see spooce in future games? I personally would be unhappy if they re-implemented spooce into the next game. In MO i thought it was irritating that nearly every puzzle/ problem. Involved running round collecting spooce.

I would like to see spooce come back, but some different ways to earn it... like do good actions you can earn a bit, but not simply pic them up, regrow, pic them up,...

The whole idea of Spooce seems to make sense, since more spiritual Mudokons would have greater spiritual powers. However, in terms of gameplay it just doesn't work. Early on Munch's Oddysee was being heralded as not so much a game but a life simulator. What we ended up with was of course far from that, and if I have to run about arena-designed levels popping melons I'm going to be very upset. SpooceLocks are the most stupid thing ever on Oddworld. What's wrong with flintlocks, chimelocks and shadowlocks, huh? They were beautiful in Abe's Oddysee, they should come back, along with a more traditional style of possession, without having to stand about chanting over a SpooceBud for ten minutes.

Having said that, they could have a gameplay purpose. In the rain maker pre-MO video, Mudokons were carrying SpooceShrubs and arranging them about the Storm Circle, presumably since they had some mystical property to them. If we do have Storm Circles (they'd better actually make it rain instead of just make water levels rise with no explanation) and other similar Native services in the next game, having to find enough SpooceShrubs could work out as a nice little side-mission so the game can progress.

i dont like the spooce, the oddworld game became famous because of no scorekeeping (of course thats n ot the only reason) and i wish you could like use it differently, abe never needed anything to possess guys before, if you think about it kind of weakened um......but! i guess a 3d gme with more publicity would make more publicity if it was like other games operate, so it probly had something to do with transferring to xbox....personally i think the humshrubs were cooler, they were in the demo, i wish game was more like the demo, humshrubs, Klimb vendos, and the layout....

I don't think they should come back. If they do, the name should be changed, they should become much more rare, and be more useful.

If they come back I would like to see more of a realistic approach to them. For instance instead of walking over them like in Pac-Man you have to pick them up and sort of drink mystical juices from within.

like all the vendo's? that drink thing is enough used, not more...
I would like something else, like posses next it to absorb the mistical power of it

Well not like vendos. What I mean is that you already have the ability to posess without spooce but spooce would give you some other strange abilities. And what I mean by drinking is like take this scenero. You have to harvest these shrubs by picking them and carrying them some place. After that a Mudokin shamen or witch doctor takes them and pokes holes into them spilling the contents out onto a fire where it is boiled and cooked then you recieve a unique new ability by drinking the cooked solution. Like magic potions sort of. I don't know at least that will make it more realistic than walking into them. The concept of carrying them around makes the idea better.

I would also like to see them be more scarce across the enviorment. But I don't think we are going to see them again.

I just got this feeling.

by the way, why are they called shrubs, shrubs are bushes, they look more like mushrooms.

I voted NO.

In theory, spooce and spooceshrubs are a good idea that fit into the oddworld world and could provide some sort of gameplay element.

In theory, communism is also a good idea...

In a 3D game like MO, how else would they have done possession? They didn't have set screens to posess Sligs in like in AO and AE. I personally dont see any way they could have pulled MO of without the spooce. If the future games are in 3D, yes on spooce! Its the only way to make possesion work in games like MO.

paramiteabe 06-15-2003 07:10 PM

But technology is always improveing. They are going to find a way to posess things in 3D enviorments without useing spooce. There has to be a way some how beyond spooce.
