sligs' pants

Theres one creature I just dont get. Its the slig. They have robot pants that dont attatch. If youve seen the gabbiar action vidio on MO, at the end the slig comes apart and his body looks like he would be a water creature but he dies in water. If you have any answers for me just send a reply.:fuzwink:

dripik 06-12-2003 04:43 PM

Well, if you would have an anchor tied to your leg, and its weight is equal to your weight, you would sink in the water. And the other thing is that Sligs are NOT water creatures.

Wil 06-12-2003 05:00 PM

The Slig species is swamp-dwelling creatures naturally, so it makes sense that they can swim. However, since the only time you can get them in water in MO is when they're weighed down by the mass of their mechanical pants, then it's no indication that they can't swim. Of course, it may also be that modern Sligs simply aren't trained how to swim, and so have lost that ability.

If you want to know why the Sligs drops out of his pants, there are several other topics about this in General Discussion. Just use the search facility.

Wil 06-12-2003 05:34 PM

I think it was meant to be a joke explanation of why the Valet Slig falls out of his pants.

dripik 06-12-2003 05:40 PM

Hey, I didn't know that Sligs are swamp-dwelling creatures. Maybe they used their arms to swim and follow their victim (food), and those tentacle-things to grab'em.

Xavier 06-12-2003 05:40 PM

get it...
to sad there aren't rules against stupid jokes :fuzwink:

slig_hunter72 06-12-2003 07:28 PM

lmao @ Xavier

It seems to me that the Sligs are related to paramites in some distant way. The mouth tentacles look somewhat similar. When the Slig crawls, it looks alot like a paramite with the back cut off. Maybe the paramites evolved from ancient Sligs because Paramites also lived around swamps unless I am mistaken. Maybe Sligs used to eat slurgs.:fuzblink:

Just my 2 cents...

ratman 06-12-2003 08:27 PM

I think they are related to paramites too. I had noticed that along time ago but never thought that deep on it.Or maybe oddworld inhabitants just couldnt think of any other odd type of creature.:)

Sekto Springs 06-13-2003 12:19 AM

i think lulu's valet fell out of his pants cause he was shocked, miserable, and going nuts! how would you feel if yer big juicy paycheck went down the drain to the price of some aquatic delecacy? youd fall outta yer pants too!

PS: thanx for the info Max, once again you have supplied me with a little more oddworld knowledge that i didnt know! thanx!

ratman 06-23-2003 01:22 AM

but i didnt mean it in an insulting way...

GrigtheSlig 06-23-2003 05:21 PM

Maybe one day a slig crawled out of the water, started to crawl around and live on the land. one day he notices that his arms are spliting into 2 arms on each side. Thus the evolution of a slig into a paramite!

ratman 06-25-2003 09:20 PM

that is a possibility but dont you think its a little weird^_^
NOT JUST A LITTLE WEIRD, A LOT WEIRD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

GrigtheSlig 07-01-2003 10:33 AM

It could happen, ya never know do ya! Maybe the slig was born with a birth defect and had 4 legs to begin with, and he decided to leave the water and become a land dweller, because he was shuned for having 4 arms!( And it was hard to swim)! They look way to similar to not be related in some way. I wonder if Lorne will ever explain the reason that sligs and paramites look so alike!

Wil 07-01-2003 03:17 PM

Way similar? *looks* Paramites have jointed fingers around their entire face...Sligs have unjointed tentacles surrounding just their mouth. Sligs have tails, Paramites don't. Paramites have wide bodies, two pairs of limbs, and the ability to spin webs. Sligs have thin bodies, one pair of limbs, and eyes. And, the most compelling evidence, Sligs are a super species, Paramites are a sexually-reproducing species.

Xavier 07-01-2003 04:21 PM

true Max, so there is no point try to convince us that they have common orrigins

Wil 07-01-2003 04:54 PM

That is what I am saying. There's obviously much more of a connection between Sligs and Glukkons, as the Octigi Family drawing indicates - look at Octigi 0.1, you can see it has the same sort of tentacles around the mouth as a Slig.

Actually, I was just thinking the other day that Vykkers might have legs similar to those of Gloktigi, possibly making them quite distant relatives, but I've disguarded that idea. Glukkons would also seem to be closely related to the Turtle Hunter (as Niteowl pointed out). I'm going a tad off topic here, but there was discussion a while back about Glukkons originating from wader-like birds, making them possibly very distant relatives of Mudokons. Now if that's true (big 'if', but I'm interested by this. Besides, everyone needs a PA moment every now and then), then we've got a bit of a pattern forming, since we know Mudokons, Glukkons and Sligs are all super species. Would that make the Turtle Hunters and the Hickens also super species?

Although I've just realised that the bird-like attributes of pre-Glukkons would have to have been a temporary state of the evolutionary process, since you have to account for the other Octigi to have evolved from this, which they don't appear to have. Oh well, I had fun.

Xavier 07-01-2003 05:05 PM

I can't find anything wrong in your theory (like usual), so it can be pretty possible even if I think it's a kind far-streched in some ways...

anyway is Hickens the official name?

Wil 07-01-2003 05:24 PM

No, but it's a fitting name. Plus it's shorter than typing 'those townspeople in Oddworld 4' or even just 'chicken hillbillies'. Yeah, I agree it's far-fetched, but I got carried away. It would explain why there are so many super species on Oddworld...sort of.

Thinking about it, it would also make regular Oddworld birds a super species.
