Problem Posting

I've encountered a little problem whereby I can't actually post any replies to topics in General Discussion unless I do something a little risky. I may have to do the same thing to get this posted. I haven't fully explored the problem, but from what I can tell, I can only post messages if I put swear words in them, then go back and edit them quickly so as not to get banned. I'm guessing this is just some weird interface problem at my end, and that the interesting circumstances of when I can and when I cannot post are purely coincidental, but I thought I might as well bring the problem to the populace's attention.

Oh, and while I'm here, can I ask why there are giant pictures of Humphrey and Irwin all over the place in this new OWF design (which I love, by the way)? There's one just above Xavier's avatar (in every post), one in one of the newbie's signatures, and one in the smilies box. It's mucking up the proportions of the layout. Hasn't anyone else noticed this or is my new Internet connection just being difficult?

EDIT: I didn't need to do anything special to post this, it just went up fine.

That's strange, but since I'm not a admin I can't do anything for you

what? I don't see that, anyway I never putted that in my avatar, your PC is acting strange...

Now that's really strange. I've never heard of anyone havng to post like that. Alcar knows a little more on PHP, maybe he has some ideas. I did however check your profile settings, and they are set to the same as everyone else. Do you get an error message when you try to post without swear words?

With the large pictures of Humphrey and Irwin, I'm guessing that's one of these server bugs. Every so often either the server or vBulletin grabs a random image from anywhere on the server (i.e. Oddworld-Web or Oddworld Universe) and uses it instead of the correct image. It's not usually a constant or common occurance however. Never seen it on any other vBulletin forums, so maybe it's to do with this server.

We'll be moving servers shortly, so it would be interesting to see if it still occurs there.

does that mean that pilot/justin isn't our server anymore?

The difficulty posting problem seems to have gone. Perhaps it was just a glitch and a coincidence. The large pictures, however, remain. The one in the Smilies box here is actually (under 'properties') the fuzzlesmile.gif, and sure enough when I click on it it puts  in my post.

There are two in Xavier's thingy, one is mod_star6 or something like that, which would be his special status stars, the other is claiming to be his SoulStorm Brewery avatar. It would appear to be the server bug you described, Abe Babe. Interesting, intrusive, a little annoying, but not totally devastating. I can live with it, especially since I've got used to them, now.

Hullo, this be a message from Alcar through happyguy936's account. He kindly let me post through him, ain't he a kind friend :p

As Abe Babe said, random images sometimes occur. This is a problem with both vBulletin and the server. I've had it happen to me before in the Admin Control Panel. It's unfortunate, but hopefully it'll disappear shortly like it did for myself.

As for the posting problems, I'd not have a clue. It was probably something wrong at the time that interferred with your posting.

Coz we were too lazy to log out of my account and log onto his to post... and why would you be banned if you get find out? his just using his friend's account to post... Anyways you shouldn't have brought this thread back up...

My patience is surely running out with you Abeguy...

Alcar 06-23-2003 08:18 AM

Yeah, basically Josh was already logged on and for the sake of not logging into my account and ruining my new thread/posts timestamp Josh allowed my to use his.

You aren't allowed to use other people's accounts to post, as it's called hacking. But because I know Josh so well (we are good friends at school) he let me

I should have mentioned this as soon as it happened, so I'm sorry if you've all been been losing your sleep over this, but everything's sorted itself out now. Interestingly, it was the same time my FAQ started working again. Thanks for all your help, anyway.
