Formulation of rules

Quite a few of the Moderators in Employee Lounge have suggested to formulate new rules. The reason being that with the current rules, people are allowed to get away with murder. We're asking for member input, but nothing will be made final for a while, especially not while Abe Babe is absent. We'd like to hear what you think should be put into the rules, nothing stupid, we want serious input.

One expectation we seek to achieve is better control over offenders, and eliminate swearing.

We can get away with murder????*sneaks around with a knife*

No insulting each other badly is a good one:) and swearing should be limited.

Jacob 05-31-2003 11:52 AM

It depends what 'insulting each other badly' means. I'm presuming this means my mockingness will be severely limited. Which is severely wrong. Ugh, its always the losers who spoil the big boys fun...

Trying to get in one last mock at me? ;)

F(-censor-)k

My big bro (not the slig kind) has a forum with a censor work list. Anytime a swear or rude word on the list is posted, it gets changed to some thing else.
e.g. "Bitch"="Pregnant dog"

If you could start something like this, it at leasts stops the swears.

No, i didnt think you would have complained. I was presuming all the creatures i mocked and some others were complaining, but not you Alcar. I am ashamed...*Tuts*

I wasn't complaining, that's why I added the winking smilie. You should know by now that I'm never going to take you seriously :p

Unless of course you're speaking of fashion and the way I look, because then I know you'll always correct the errors of my ways. Although I ain't got any fashion tips out of you... yet...

Jacob 05-31-2003 01:07 PM

No. I meant complaining about my general bitchness on the forums and thus caused the talking in the Employee lounge to change the rules. I was thinking that the rules were changing to stop me from being...well, me. Because im so amazing everyone just wants to talk about me, whoo!!

salty pretzils 05-31-2003 01:14 PM

Aw, the forums won't be the same with Jacob's incessant sarcasm.
I like Adder's idea, personally.

Xavier 05-31-2003 01:16 PM

Well:
You must read the OWF FAQ and the OWI FAQ before asking stupid questions

Alcar 05-31-2003 01:24 PM

Adder's suggestion is a valid one, although I don't think/know that the next version of vBulletin and this version we're running has that feature.

And something to add to your suggestion Xavier, people must use Search before asking questions as well!

Reese Charles 05-31-2003 01:39 PM

Constructive or Opinion only. And if its your opinion your stating, you must also state that it is your opinion and is not meant to offend.

That would make Arguments and Flaming Matches against the rules...

Oh, and ban free mailing addresses from signing up for usernames so that people cant have more than one username. (@mail.com and @hotmail.com etc.)

That would only stop a mass of people from joining since many internet users have Hotmail. Plus its a stupid suggestion.

Abe-Gun's Return 05-31-2003 01:58 PM

hmmm...yes...quite so.....we should put in....no put-downs, unless it's a joke and everyone knows it is.

That wasn't an idea of my own, its one I borrowed off of other forums...

Doing away with swearing wouldn't be ideal:p

I just say that flaming matches (ooo, pun... or something) are the things that need to be stopped. Things like Jacob's mocking should continue, but limited so he can't actually drive forum members away:p No need to eleminate a large chunk of entertainment.

And just a teeny suggestion... I should have all power.

Jacob 05-31-2003 06:46 PM

I didnt realise i drove members away since i dont mock that many anymore...i usually let them get on with their Oddworldish capers...or should that be Kippers...*Giggles outrageously*

SeaRex 05-31-2003 07:49 PM

C'mon. Don't outlaw swearing. It's ever-so much fun. Pwetty Pwease?

Or could you at least make it so members can only swear in Off-Topic? Is that possible?

Alcar 06-01-2003 01:26 AM

Maybe if swearing was limited. It's used so often and too such an extreme.

Alcar...

Facsimile 06-01-2003 10:43 AM

Oh fu... dge. I just swore in my last post. Am I going to die?

You cannot stop swearing! It's such good fun! And I don't even think we have a swearing problem. If I wasn't such a standup guy *smiles and a tooth twinkles* I would swear a lot more. I swear too much when I'm not Fax. Oh... no, not really, Fax does all the time on Diablo 2. Er... where were I? Oh yes. I vote for Mary for class president.

Hobo 06-01-2003 01:08 PM

On swaering, can we totally block any words that are offecnive to a particular group of people.
Eg. Disabled Children being called retards.

Because people use these words without realising how offencive they are to other people aswell as those intended for it to harm.

And don't do away with the free email addresses..... Don't they already have IP checks to stop multiple users, and anyway it isn't that big a problem.

well what else are we gonna call them!?

okay, that was very insensative of me, i shouldnt have done that... *hits head on desk* bad Ferill! bad Ferill!

Jacob 06-01-2003 03:03 PM

Disabled Children being called retards.
'Retards' is just a shortened version of 'Mentally retarded' or 'Physically retarded' which is what they are. I dont see why its such a bad word. Sure, sometimes it can be used at the mentally/physically crippled in a bad way but in the end if we're going to abolish the word 'retard' we might aswell abolish all words that could cause insult to specific groups, including -

Sexist words
Racist words
Homophobic words
Anti-religious words
Swear words

we might aswell keep all of the above but just moniter their usage. Do you see?

Hobo 06-01-2003 03:06 PM

I am enlightened, why thank you Jacob.

Gryph the Slig 06-01-2003 05:34 PM

I'm fairly new here and don't have much of a voice, but... I like Adder's idea with the word switching. I honestly think we could do away with swearing - there have been several forums I've not joined because of the constant swearing.

Yea probably ban those kind of words, but i think monitor usage will be pretty hard...

Flamin' ideas

Can an Admin block a user from posting on a certain thred. If so then why not sinply block the 2 or more people from posting on the thred where they were flaming! Then post a warning to everyone else on the thred to avoid more. If they start a new post only to flame, cram it to Necrum in a cutlass. (Don't ask)

Nope, this would create too much of a strain on the database as well as creating a whopper of a MySQL table (read: very, very, very large size which takes up lots of space).

Besides, seeing as we have so many flamers (etc) here it would be an even larger size! :p
