Oddworld Desktop Theme
 

Am I too new to intro topics? Hope this ain't a faux pas...

Anyway, I've been kicking around the idea of putting together an Oddworldly Windows desktop theme, and I thought it would be a good idea to get some other peoples' input. So here's what I've thought up so far, gimme some suggestions/criticisms:

Icons

• My Computer: a story stone
• Network Neighborhood: I'm really not sure. A slog hut, perhaps?
• Full Recycle Bin: a bottle of Brew
• Empty Recycle Bin: an empty SS bottle, maybe on its side

Sounds

• Asterisk: Glukkon's "hey!"
• Close program: a shutting door/barricade
• Critical stop: Slig's "look out!"
• Default beep: an angry mudokon's "no"
• Default sound: ditto
• Empty Recycle Bin: sound made when Abe gets a Brew from a dispenser
• Exclamation: Abe's "anger" growl
• Exit Windows: Abe's death music
• Maximize: a trap door being raised
• Menu command: Abe's "okay"
• Menu popup: Slig turning around
• Menu select: Slig footstep
• Minimize: a trap door being lowered
• Open program: Glukkon's "do it!"
• Program error: Glukkon or Slig laugh
• Question: Slig's "what?"
• Restore up: Slig's cricket sound
• Restore down: Slig's other little chirp
• Ring in: Paramite's "howdy"
• Ring out: Paramite's "all o'ya"
• Start Windows: Abe's "hello," or maybe the music that plays during the OWI logo.

Mama mia, thatsa one long post! I still haven't decided on a good wallpaper or some cursors, any ideas?

Hey, i'd love an oddworld theme, heres an idea for the wallpaper, a bunch of those postcards from the e3 oddworld video , like, Im having the time of my life... ...sentance that is. scattered around. or a stone wall with etchings on it. If you want, ill make one. :D

Hey, I like it - if you're in the creatin' mood, perhaps you could make one of those 800x600 and the other in (uh, that higher resolution).

Heck, this thing needs a screen-saver too, doesn't it? Maybe something like an albumet of Oddworld's beautiful faces & places.

i think when windows shuts down it should be abe's "get me outta here!!!"

Well this sounds good. I always wanted a scree´nsaver but I never found one.
What´s Asterisk? As enty recycle bin a emty SSB bottle? Well how would you make one?

(BTW what does back off means? Go away?)

Actually, an Oddworld Theme came with the Windows 95 disc of Abe's Oddysee. It had animated icons and everything.

The ideas you allready have are ok! Perhaps you could include some start-up and shutdown screens too.

I really like animated cursurs. Maybe you could use the animated gifs off Abe and the other creatures for that? (Somewhere on Oddworld-web: or ask Abe Babe)

Maybe you could also include icons that aren't immediatly installed. Just as a bonus, so people can use them as icons for there other shortcuts.

I'm allready looking forward to this new theme!

As to the empty bottle, I've grabbed an icon editor program from download.com.
Yes, "back off" means "go away."

enversi: AO for 95, you say? Damn, guess I gotta buy that now. Might as well finish my theme up since I've collected all the resources and ideas, though.

Oddipus: Cool! Ya thinkin' stuff like Glukkon heads, mudokon expressions, the various warning signs, and such? Alf has been promising us these for quite a while, though, I don't want to overstep any license...

TBS: Well, "well" is a well-used word, but we should use other words as well.

I do know how to make a short post, really...

for the network neighborhood, i think a slig barrack would be better than a slog hut, dont you?

Whatever I use, it's got to fit within 32x32 pixels.

For a limited time, I've put the desktop theme that came with Abe's Oddysee on my website Oddworld Inhabited. You guys will probably enjoy it.

Also, you can get my Odd Font 1.0, which will help you with your graphics.

Hmm, perhaps I should make it more specific. Given that there's already an AO theme, this could be an AE theme, methinks.

Ah... like everything time always gets the better of me.

I have software to make my own icons and cursors, and software to make my own fonts. I have had the "coming soon" under the icons and cursors on Oddworld-Web for almost as long as Oddworld.com has. I kind of decided not to continue on with the font idea when BanjoX kindly provided us all with the font file (note to self, update site with this).

So, all my good intentions get lost in all the small amount of time I have due to other distractions/doing something else/feeling like playing games/being busy/other web stuff/insert other comment here.

The idea is great for a theme Oddomatic... maybe one day I'll get the illusive theme of my own done!
