oddworld tours and jobs

i am going to california this summer to get a look see at oddworld studios, they have tour guides, yipee:fuzgrin: and i may also apply for a job there, they need a visual accord and scoregivers for their next game....

pleez come to cali this summer:fuzsmile:

Oddsville 05-14-2003 08:43 PM

Really? From what I heard they only give tours to specific people? But if what you said is true than I hope you have a great time.

Cloverfield 05-15-2003 12:41 PM

Unless things have changed, I strongly doubt that Oddworld would be opening their studios for tours complete with guides. Especially since they are in a kind of top secret mode at the moment.

Although I've been lucky enough to visit the studios twice, usually only certain fans are allowed to visit the studios. Not sure what the criteria is, but generally you're given a yes or no by people there. I also know that some people have had to be knocked back due to time constraints, etc. Therefore if they're really busy, they won't allow any visits at all.

Good luck for getting in, but I just don't think it's as easy to get there as you have posted.

And according to your profile, you are only 13 ... that's a little early to be applying for a job. Most companies won't accept applicatons until you at least have finished high school and many prefer some tertiary/college or at least working experience. So I kind of think you might be joking about the job part (no offense meant, but it just seems too way out).

Abe Babe...

Xavier 05-15-2003 02:25 PM

this surprises me a lot, also the fact you come to say it to us before... usually OWI ask a lot of discretion

Sekto Springs 05-15-2003 05:24 PM

theres more than just walking in with a guide it costs money, lots, im sure. besides they'de have to have some type of tour to raise money:fuzblink: it's complicated, ide be typing for an hour the whole story:fuzblink:

as for the job... they need people my age to speak for the fans of things they dont say and to sample their gaming

note: this is all based on me moving to cali...they need new people and ideas and i got a million:fuzwink:

Oddsville 05-15-2003 06:07 PM

I like to see your confidence Sligslinger but just don't get your hopes up if you get turnned down, OWI is very buisy (sp?) at this time.

Sekto Springs 05-15-2003 06:25 PM

hopes up? ha!.....i doubt i'll get a job....trust me i aint got any hopes up at all....it's sumthin i mite try

:fuzzle:

Cloverfield 05-15-2003 11:16 PM

How do I say this without being insulting ... I don't doubt you're going to California ... but firstly, Oddworld would never charge money for people to visit the studios, it's against everything they stand for.

Secondly, all of those jobs you listed require a lot of experience. I work in the computer industry myself, so have a pretty good idea of what is required to become a programmer.

It sounds like you're just trying to sound good on here by telling everyone you're going to Oddworld. Your story has too many things in it that sound made up.

Abe Babe...

paramiteabe 05-16-2003 12:11 PM

Yes Abe Babe is right. It requires the expierence that I am getting.

You have to get a Bachelors dagree in the arts from animation to comercial art and design. Then you submit a resume along with your Portfolio of work but your still not guaranteed the job.

And I have to say I have come a long way to get to where I am. And I am not quiting. Art and animation and production is my pashion and I can see myself working in OWI. And if not that it will be in some kind media production studio or film studio. And it just might happen. And thats no wishful thinking eather. Its fact.

A friend already gave me connections to a media production studio and I the position I am looking at is an Art Director.:)

And I make my own stories and animation for fun aswell with my friend Adem. So I am pretty expierence in this type of work.

But what I am telling you is that if you have a pashion in this then go for it like me and you just might end up in places like that.

KintoKid 05-16-2003 12:15 PM

A few months ago, I asked Alf if they had any tour-guide service, and they said they don't and have no staff to provide one. I doubt they will let just anyone walk in (no offense).

Sekto Springs 05-16-2003 07:48 PM

u guys still dont get it i said it's possable besides they dont tour their studio by tour i ment u could visit fan areas like gt shops....and the job thing is my mom's idea:fuzconf: besides abe babe why dont u think i can go to cali???? anyone can go there:fuzgrin:

Xavier 05-17-2003 05:05 AM

Sekto Springs 05-17-2003 11:45 AM

Wow Sligslinger! You have a lot of confidence and passion! These are important traits when looking for a job in the gaming industry. I just want to wish you the best of luck. If you really want a job in games, I know you can make it happen! Just keep in mind there is a lot of hard (and fun!) work involved in getting there first. An internship is a great idea, and an excellent way to get your foot in the door at a game developer. Oddworld is, well, Odd in that we've never done internships, but lots of game studios do. It is a fun and effective way of getting into the games business.

As for tours, we do not have "guides" here at Oddworld, sorry. We have a few kind employees who have taken time out of their work schedules to make it happen from time to time, but we don't really officially give tours, especially when we are facing a busy production schedule. And on the rare occasion that a tour was granted, I swear on my finest fez that no money changed hands!!!!

Have a great trip to Cali- We are enjoying balmy 90 degree weather here in SLO : )

Odd Luck!!!!!:D :D :D :fuzwink:

Sekto Springs 05-23-2003 05:33 PM

i love you alf! your my hero! thanx for the nudge back into life! today sucked, but you just made it sunny! sorry if this post seems like brownnosing but thanx!!!!!!

I can get you a job sligslinger. what no one knows is that I am actually lorne's son and I work there side by side with him!!!!!!!!!!! wow cool yeah!

so if you want a job just email me and I will talk to daddy. alf was lying because he knows you might get his job.

paramiteabe 05-26-2003 06:04 PM

Alf was giveing you some confedence Sligslinger. And that is all you need. Like I said if you have a passion then go for it mann. Thats one thing I have that is keeping me going. I would almost say that we have a similar dream to work for OWI. I am going for an artist position and you I don't know, what exactly would you want to do there? Be an artist, an Animator?

What ever dream you have and that you have the passion for it then nothing will stop you from getting there. Even if you were turned down. It doesn't matter you will get there one way or another. Just a little words of encoragement from an Artist!

Yes, Lorne is actually my father.

Our relationship is kind of rocky sometimes, but he's a great dad.

I talked to him last night and he said you can come in as long as I am willing to give you the tour. If you tell me when you'll be in california, we can arrange a date.

Okay Disgruntled Intern, you know what's scary? The fact that you can make something so outrageous, sound believable... a great talent you got there!
