"lost" Oddworld game?
Hey everyone, I recenty came across an old A&E entertainment almanac I found in my uncle's basement. It was the 1997 edition. In the home entertainment section, there was an article by one James K. Willcox about the next-generation consoles of the day. You remember them: Playstation, Saturn, and N64.
At the end, Mr. Willcox listed "the best ten games to play on each system." One of the Playstation games was Soul Storm. The text beneath said the following: "With eye-catching graphics and an unusual twist on gaming, you avoid conflict rather than seek it, Soul Storm features an escaped slave named Abe as the main character who must solve numerous puzzles and overcome obstacles, often by learning songs or sentences." The game Soul Storm seems to be a conceptual name for AO, but i find it intersting that it would later surface as the name of the brew made by the greedy, diabolical Glukkons in AE. It makes you wonder what OWI's original intent was, does it not? |
Hmmm... A question to puzzle the greatest of us for years to come.

Abe's Oddysee was originally meant to be called "SoulStorm"... but OWI decided to change the title to that which we know and love today.
![]() Abe Babe... |
the "Oddworld: (character's name)'s Oddysee/Exoddus" makes a lot more sense than
"Soul Storm" and "Soul Storm 2, Abe's Back". :p |
I agree, SoulStorm isn't that great of a name. Oddysee and Exoddus fit a lot better. Having said that, I expected each of the characters to have an original title format each time. For example, Abe's Oddysee and Abe's Exoddus for Abe and something different for Munch. Something like The Oddventures of Munch.
As for SligStorm, I think that's a perfect name for the game that was based on the Slig larvae (canned, unfortunately ![]() |
Oddysee is way way way better than soulstorm. Its so adventurouse and
ODDysee |
Well Oddworld... sounds better. But I also like the name SoulStorm. It has Soul in it´s name :) What does Soul Storm means? A Soul Storm? A Storm in the Soul?
|
Hi :D
in Oddworld there give´s of course crazy names. Bye, TheBlueScrab ![]() |
i like the names oddysee and exoddus better since oddysee is like because he learned he was the savior.(you probably already figured that out :) ).and exodduss as in abes leaving the facories altogether(mostly)but you probably already knew that too :D .

:
Calling it soulstorm is just a load of crap, why call it soulstorm? It hasn't been invented yet and it has no meaning in the game. DOWN WITH SOULSTORM!!!! BOOO |
no, 'odyssey' means 'adventure' or 'journey'.
i always thought that 'Exoddus' wasn't a very good name, as the game wasn't based on escape so much. in fact, 'Exoddus' would have been better as the name for the first game, as that was based on freeing slaves, rather than on stopping brew being produced [which was the main storyline in AE]. |
Actually Rettick, I feel "Exxodus" is a good name. There was an "Exxodus" of mudokons from all the factories in order to shut down the factories themselves. Thus you get 300 escaped mudokons.
|
I'm glad they didn't keep it at SoulStorm. The game might not had done as well since it is a preety weak name.
