hand of odd

i know that hand of odd is still being considered, but i know that the next game is supposed to be something entirely new. Just how many games could they realistically have in production at once? i doubt they could manage more than two or three. Just how big is the staff at OWI?

Yep thats my question-

Alcar 05-08-2003 04:46 AM

I doubt Oddworld are working on more than two games. I believe that the best thing to do would be to work 95% on the current development title, and spend that other 5% on the next title. So that if the current development title needs to be intergrated storywise with the next, they can do it easier.

Rather than make up the next storyline from scratch, and try to make it fit in with the previous game.

Oddipus 05-08-2003 07:32 AM

I think we would be suprised if we really new how many projects they are working on at once.

* OW4
* hand of odd
* squeek's oddysee
* munch's exoddus
* movies
* merchandising
*...

they have to be very organised to handle it all :eek:

Reese Charles 05-08-2003 12:13 PM

They have loads of seperate design and development departments...

Oddipus, you forgot SligStorm, alf "said" it wasn't totally canceled

Sekto Springs 05-09-2003 01:25 AM

i always thought the next game would revolve around sam, kintos, khanzumerz, etc. but whattu i know!?:fuzblink:

Reese Charles 05-09-2003 04:31 AM

I don't know about you, but I have noticed something, and its a bit of a giveaway (to me at least). Mudos is only a small island on Oddworld, compared with the rest of the planet. Perhaps there will be another series of games set on Oddworld but on a different continent? A better place to discuss this would be my thread "If you could make an Oddworld game, what would it be like?". The only problem is, you can't really speculate about this sort of thing, because there have been no such plans released yet. The only thing we can do is merely imagine what will be next...

But its fun to imagine, I personally think that mudos is just an island where mud slaves and sligs come from, and its where the Magog have all their factories...

Not just the quintology

As it said in the Exoddus manual, each of the 5 games will have at least ONE bonus game.

And what ever happened to the habitales and feirytales???

There's a hell of a lot of Odd to be developed...

Reese Charles 05-09-2003 09:47 AM

Yes, the "extra" games result in a total of 10 games, a re-assuringly long run. Just 7 more to go! Who could begin to think what these games will involve? Its an exiting new world all right!

The impression I got from Alf was that those 'categories' were no longer in existance.

Reese Charles 05-09-2003 01:20 PM

I haven't even heard of those. What are they?

Alcar 05-09-2003 01:28 PM

This is courtesy of our resident Oddworld Encyclopedia, Max the Mug:

:

The Habitales are a series of Oddworld games that focus around the everyday lives of the Oddworld Inhabitants. There are no goals to fulfill, no specific events or levels, just all-round strategy, gameplay and satisfaction.

The Fearietales are almost the opposite. In much the same way, there are no quests or levels, but the storyline focuses on the mystical backgrounds we see in every Oddworld game - there's no gore, but there's a hell of a lot of horror. Gameplay centres around grass-growing and spiritual rituals more than ressurection and action, although they will be aspects too.

The first game in the Habitales series is Oddworld: Hand of Odd. In it, you take control of a great leader in one of three unique factions. Each character has his own personality, his own ambitions, and his own unique way of getting things done. There's a two-way system involved, too - gather Mudokons to start a ruin dance, and rehydrate the dying plant life, or move in the construction workers are replace that flora with factories. Sow it or mow it, hug it or mug it, there's a whole real-time system of gameplay, with no inventory, no weapons and no menus. Note that it is unknown what the three sides will be. The game will hopefully emlploy the Xbox's online capabilities.
However, they might not be dead. It's just the impression I got...

Sounds like that would be better on PC actually, most strategy games are...

I once thought up a strategy game involving Glukkon empires where you could place FeeCo Depots, lay railways (or should I say suspend!), construct factories and maintain them, build add ons to your facilities, manage income and worker pay, choose whether or not to place vending machines in your factories, hire sligs, capture workers from their native homes, customise products, splash out on ad campeigns, breed and process animals and capture renegade employees...

It was a good game idea but I don't really have what it takes to make all the graphics for it...

hand of odd...that title always made me think of abe's moon seeing the huge mudokon hand shaped crater on it's face but apparentely that has nothing to do with the game...or does it? hmmm that's something to think about:fuzwink:

In my expereance ALL games seem better on PC.
The only exeption would be beat-em-up's played without a joypad.
As for AO, it wasn't changed for PC use, it still says "Press X"

Xavier 05-10-2003 01:36 PM

well, if you do so... and press on X it will work you know:fuzwink:

Sekto Springs 05-10-2003 02:25 PM

hand of odd.....hmmm....squeeks oddysee...munch's exoddus....squeeks exoddus.......grrrrrr....that's more than five if you include the first 3....according to lorne they may need to increase the number of games in the series to meet demands

Xavier 05-10-2003 03:14 PM

ahum the quintology was supposed to be:
1 Abe's Oddysee
2 Munch's Oddysee
3 Squeeks Oddysee
4 ?Nod?'s Oddysee
5 ?????'s Oddysee

Abe's Exoddus (& SligStorm) are Abe Bonus Games
Munch's Exoddus is Munch Bonus game

Hand of odd is from an othe serie (the habitales)

hope it clears up

Reese Charles 05-10-2003 03:36 PM

Screw this. I am not going to take part in a debate over some speculation...

Let us not forget that there isn't just going to be one bonus game for each part of the Quintology, Lorne and Alf said themselves that its extreemly possible that there will be more than one bonus game for each main game. Particularly Munch's character. I know that Lorne has alot of story ideas planned for him. Aside from that here's my list of possible games....

Quintology Tittles-
Abe's Oddysee
Abe's Exoddus
Munch's Oddysee
(Munch's bonus games)
Oddworld 4 (This is supposedly a side story to the Quintology so there's a chance at more.)
Squeek's Oddysee
(Squeek's bonus games)
Nod's Oddysee (rummored to be the fourth character)
(Nod's bonus games)

Other Quintology storys, etc-
The Habitales series (not yet determinded)
The Fearitales series (not yet determinded)
Sligstorm
Then theres the Movie (which'll probably be awile)
etc.

Xavier 05-11-2003 05:30 PM

Oddville... wasn't SligStorm supposed to be a Abe Bonus game
plus I think you forgot Hand Of ODD

Reese Charles 05-11-2003 05:33 PM

I still don't see the point in this disscussion. Yeah, blah blah blah, it would be nice if, blah blah blah...

All we can do is cross our fingers and hope that MO wasn't the bad omen that the little voice in the back of our head told us it was.

Oddsville 05-11-2003 05:58 PM

My god I did forget Hand of Odd! Thankye Xav!:fuzwink:
As for Sligstorm well that was a seperate game that just was going to come with a certain version of AO, but I forgot which.

paramiteabe 05-11-2003 06:14 PM

Ok the quintology is five part game series consisting each with a bonus game or more than one. The depths of the odd we only discovered very little so far. Each game shows more about the strange and exciting reality of Oddworld and its veried inhabitants. Each game introduces us to a new species or race of beings at the bottom of the food chain struggleing to survive. Each game has its hero who have their individual destanys in life and most importantly individual problems but each hero of the quintology is connected in a very odd way. What that is we don't know.

I have a feeling that everything we have thought up thus far based on our knowledge and facts that a lot of it is just all hype to throw us off on the real Oddworld that we are about to see. I don't know thats just my impression on OWI and how they are acting the way they are. They are very secretive and we don't know anything. But they are extremely excited about up comming titles for Oddworld. Why? That is exciting.

wasn't it meant to be in a deluxe edition of AO, AE, SligStorm and also a cd with pictures, themes and stuff... the project was abandoned but the storyline of SligStorm is still on the wall inside OWI

Reese Charles 05-11-2003 07:17 PM

This whole disscussion is pointless, its going to become obsolete once the new game is released. Now I understand that this is a pretty big part of the Oddworld discussions, but there isn't alot to talk about. All we know about for sure is what PA said. That there is a quintology of "Oddysee" titles, and each Oddysee title will have a bonus game that will be a development on its original. As I said before, all we can do is hope for the best.

Oddsville 05-11-2003 08:03 PM

Reese, knowone's forcing you to post here. There isn't to much to talk about at the moment so were just speculating about the future. To me, I think this is a great discussion as composed to some of the other topics in GD.

Reese Charles 05-11-2003 08:44 PM

Oh please, don't start with the "no ones forcing you to" routine, I have had that before. Do I give you the impression that I think I am being forced to post here? Because if I am then thats not whats intended. Post what you like, I am not stopping you, I am merely telling you that there are plenty of other things to talk about than "whats up next". And I might add, these other things are a more interesting than this by a longshot. I am now removing my self from the subscription to this forum. Please do not post anything to do with me if it is negative, or if its implying that what I have done or said here is wrong. I will not be around to defend myself so you will just be making statements out of COWARDICE if you do.

Thankyou

Reese
