An Oddworld Movie? maybe sooner then expected
Like I reproted on my sites (Oddworld Maniac and Oddworld News):
According to HollywoodReporter there are discutions about an Oddworld movie. :
|
wicked!!!!!!!!!!!!! i wonder what kind of famous voices we will see.
|
What famous voices? Aren't you more concerned with how Abe's story can be padded out to fill a movie? Or how much of Oddworld's cartoonishness will there be, especially in relation to its more traditional and favoured darkness?
*shrugs suggestively* |
oh yeah! and there probably wont be any famous voices because the oddworld inhabitants will do them.
Damn am I thick tonight. |
hmmmm, I wonder like Max how they gonna use the 2 Abe stories to make a decent film according to the games...
It must be a huge challenge |
I hope that the OWI's keep their focus on the games.
|
well they could make the whole quintology into a... quintology.
|
that is what was orriginally planned...
but at this moment we only know about discutions, and no productions |
so it'll be a long wait then.
|
probably, but maybe not...
anyway I so glad to finnaly find something new about oddworld, it's too quiet at the moment |
i bet in about 2 months, something really big is gonna happen, but what...
|
Reading shit like this just makes me want to spit in Lorne's face.
I know, I know, 'selling out' isn't as bad as it's made out to be. Because with the possible money they pull in from this venture, they could put it to use making sure the next oddworld games are even better than before. Of course, that will never happen. Stupid Lorne. |
Im pretty sure that OWI will decide not to put to much of thier unique hummor into this. I'll bet that if and when the OWI movie dose come out (and one eventually will) that it will be very dark just like AO was. As for using AE in the first movie, well I doubt that they'll even use it. My guess is that they'll use a lengthned version of the story (remember Lorne took out alot of stuff from the original story before it was put into the game).
|
Sweet an Oddworld movie at last well we hope soon ya know? Mann I can't wait to see the Oddworld movie and its sequels of coarse. It will be interesting to see the games evolve into motion pictures. Heres to OWI and their future into the movie buseiness!
Paramiteabe... :fuzblink: |
yeah like Oddsville I think it would be great to see a long version of the stories that we allready know, Included the Abe's moon thingy...
I wonder if OWI will tell us some more info |
My guess the movie will be like the opening film of the game then at the end of that part where you would start playing would instead go into a story to put in place of the game part. Like at the biginning it shows this renewed sequence of the opening scene of AO but hundreds of times better visually than the game in this case because it is a movie. kind of like Forest Gump with the feather at the beginning but Abe chained up in the cell. He starts talking and it goes through all that finding out he and his buddies are going to be turned into lunch. Then He escapes like in the game and thus begins the motion picture. Which could be just his travels but at a different perspective where we see his travels as a movie. An adventure film I say it will be but animated.
|
I wonder what OWI will do to show the parts when Abe is playing the actual game? You know, between the Cineatic scenes while mission objectives are being accomplished?
|
the movie
I think the Oddworld movie will be really good. Since Lorne is working on it any complaints about "inaccuracy" or "unoriginality" are just stupid. Everyone should expect the Oddworld movie to be much different than the games but more true to the "real" oddworld and how things happened there.
It is cool to see that the movie is still something that they plan on doing. |
I think the films will be great I have faith that OWI will do a good job. I remember from an interview in one of my magazines, interviewing Lorne saying the following. "The oddworld feature films will have a much darker atmosphere, and will also touch basis and explain things that even the games only scratched the surface on." (This is basically what I remember.) Now this statment is put into my own words, but this is basically what was said. I'll try and find the actual interview for you guys to read, or if anyone wishes to help find it anywhere in the archives on OW.com.
But I agree. I think they will be able to be made into films especially if there is lots of things OWI hasnt even told through the games, and the films will most likely explain a lot more on all of that. Well I'm off to go and search. -Al |
Hmm, I'm torn on this one.
On the one hand, it would be great to see the first games re-done as movies- the best thing about Munch, I think, are the cinematics. Imagine an entire full length film in the same beautifully detailed style, the same wild colors and incredible architecture and character design, with the, I at least think, better storyline of Abe. Plus, you can really tell there's so much more there- little bits and pieces, character development, background info that there simply wasn't room for in the game. Of course, it could suck, too. I think it would really crux on a good script (any challengers?). Plus the eye candy factor- one cut scene could provide endless info for oddlings like us. And, think about it- the right little tidbit of dialogue between two scrubs could answer any number of our burning questions. I'm starting to drool thinking about it. But on the other hand, maybe something entirely new would be good, too. Sure, it'd be nice to expand on Abe's story, but perhaps a totally new adventure, or even a new main character, would be better, if nothign else than to just give us a better idea of Lorne's scope for his universe. It could become the new Tolkienian lore. Imagine the pantheon we could build if every Movie and every game had a different protagonist- and all the different parts of oddworld we could explore. I don't know, I don't know... urgh, such a hard decision. Maybe they could make films out of the games AND a bunch of new ones. 20 Oddworld movies, I know I would watch them all. |
Oh wow 20 Oddworld movies! I like that idea as my head spins around out of control and goes sets up camp at the local movie theater in intispation. Your right though it would answer most our deepest, darkest questions of Oddworld. Infact it might answer it all. My guess it will be a totally different story but it would go along the lines of the games but in a different way.

Lanning wants to get the quintology out of the way
before making any motion pictures based on Oddworld. Probably 10 years or so, a little re-construction on Oddworld |
There's good and bad endings right, So what would they do? Of course they would go with the good ending but would they have a few Muds die? Abe couldn't possibly save all the Muds...right?
|
Imagine this......
You're sitting in the theatre, the lights have just gone down and the movie begins. You see the begining cinematics of AO, then all of a sudden, you realise that all they've done is recorded someone playing the game. and you have to sit there for hours watching someone die all the time, and watch them get stuck on the same part for about an hour. That would not be funny at all. |

That would be so incredibly funny. In the sense that is would be so stupid that I would laugh my arse off. Hehehe. Haha. Ha. ... *Sighs* Ahh, good times... |
Well first off, remember AO and the rest of the Quintology was firstly written as a movie to begin with. When Lorne wrote the "scripts" he had a hella lot of extra material in it. Explinations, additions to the story that weren't that important and were cut out, etc. The whole game is just a shortened version of the actuall thing, so when the movie comes out I belive that we will have a much better understanding of Oddworld and the Quintology.
|
I hope the movies don't come out for ages, I'd hate to have them spoiled by being rushed.

One thing is sure: we know the game, went trough in it, so something new must happen in the film, like talking Mudokons, but not that way as you think (Hello Hello Follow me OK). In full sentences. That would be good.
