Space Shuttle Columbia

As Im sure most of you have heard that the Space Shuttle Columbia has exploded today. Nothing much on how or what really happened but at the moment that all thats on the news. I just made this topic for you guys to talk about it and state what you think as well as your feelings on this.

paramiteabe 02-01-2003 02:06 PM

Yea I woke up to the very unfortunate and sad news. I don't think this is Terrorist related and thats what the officials are telling us but we don't know until we scavenge whats left. Truely a sad day for our world. :(

I mean it can't be Terrorist related they don't even have the capabilities to fire missles that high. I mean it exploded in orbit right? It has to be system malfunction. My prayers go out to the familys of those seven crew members. Truely this is a very unfortuante and sad day in our world.:fuzsad:

Majic 02-01-2003 02:42 PM

I don't think it was in orbit, only uh... really high up. Shame I was asleep, otherwise I could've seen it explode. Twas' over Texas...

You think it was a SHAME you didn't see it? Sounds like you'd like it if you saw it explode... Sorry, but I just don't find it suitable with this news...

And as for the cause, This site:

CNN NEWSREPORT ABOUT COLUMBIA...

says that during take off something fell off. I think it's kinda stupid of Mission Control not to tell it, or at least mention it. I woulda said that they had to make a spacewalk to see what fell off, so they may have fixed it in space...

lindsey 02-01-2003 03:39 PM

I think nyou took my post wrongly... Now its bad and all that people died, but can you deny that seeing a space shuttle blow up isn't cool?

Disgruntled Intern 02-01-2003 04:55 PM

thousands of people die much worse deaths every day, yet we should all stop and take a moment to cry about people who died a potentially quick and painless death...because they were returning from space?

Christ, who cares? just a few more names to add to the daily fatality lists.

Jacob 02-01-2003 05:12 PM

I agree with DI...who cares? Sure, its bad that people have died but i really dont see what the fuss is about....

Disgruntled Intern 02-01-2003 05:38 PM

Chris, where did you get your avatar? did you make it yourself? It's a terrible looking pentegram.

How can you say that, you heartless bastard? One of the guys was a street performer. He could ride a six-foot unicycle. I don't think you're grasping this... A SIX-FOOT UNICYCLE!!! How do you sleep at night?

You're a terrible looking pentegram...

Majic 02-01-2003 09:12 PM

Luke, I think you showed him with your insult that was so brutal that.... I'll get back to you:p

Disgruntled Intern 02-01-2003 10:28 PM

well, it's ugly.

I'll attach one that's perfectly suited for you. Or is it to you? eh.

Luke, not only have your insults driven me to tears....they caused me to curl into the fetal position for hours.

paramiteabe 02-01-2003 10:49 PM

First off a peace of debre did come off when the shuttle was takeing off and it hit the left wing. Now In NASA they say that is pretty normal because you alweys get small peaces of debre comeing off the shuttle. Its routine as they say. So that is why they dident think it was such a big problem until unfortunately this horriable insident occured. It was a mistake that turned into a disater.

And shame on you people who seem to think its not such a big deal. Because it should be a big deal. These people sacraficed and risked their own lives in the name of science and exploration for the good of all Man Kind because they had the courage to do so and they wanted to. And you sit there and say "who cares?" Thats pretty low mann! These people are heroes as far as I am concerned. How would you feel if you knew an astronaut that was in the shuttle? Or possably a family member? How would you feel then? Well I guess it goes to show that a lot of people don't understand what respect means!

May GOD BLESS AMERICA and those who sacrafice there own lives for us and all of Man Kind!

MojoMan220 02-01-2003 11:03 PM

For God's sake, at least show a little respect DI and Jacob. You guys would think differently it was one of your friends or family members who died in the explosion. Yes, a lot of people die each day that don't get reconized by the media, but that doesn't mean you should act like complete asses to these seven that did.

Also, who does care? Did you even happen to think about thier friends and family? If you don't have anything meaningful to say towards the topic don't post at all.

Majic 02-01-2003 11:24 PM

They weren't acting like asses towards the 7 that died, They're jsut saying that they have no right to be pitied more than others. Thats called sensible reasoning...

Also, theres something called Freedom of Speech. They can say whatever they want, as long as its not inapropriate.

Disgruntled Intern 02-02-2003 12:05 AM

Exactly. My pseudo pity goes out to the astronaughts families, but not the 'naughts themselves. They knew the risks involved, and they accepted them with open arms.

No one held a gun to each and everyone of their heads and said "get on the shuttle, you bitches." did they? Nope.

So don't tell me about respect...especially when you have trouble respecting my opinion.

MojoMan220 02-02-2003 01:01 AM

Those statements offended me, so I voiced my thoughts. I just find it sad that you two guys refuse to pity seven heros who lost their lives serving the United States. Just one opinion to another.

Also, according to your state of mind DI, you have no pity towards soldiers that die after volunteering to fight for their country's freedom (well-knowing the great risks envolved). I hope I'm wrong.

Disgruntled Intern 02-02-2003 02:02 AM

why should I pity a person for a choice they've made?

That's like feeling bad when a blind carpenter hacks off a few fingers with a table saw.

Wolfpac 02-02-2003 10:09 AM

O.K, with all of this talk about the loss of the 7 humans (R.I.P), people seems to forget that 8 Australians lost there lives up there too. Did anyone ever find out if spiders could spin their webs in zero gravity? I never heard.

atusiya@ 02-02-2003 10:30 AM

Even a worm will turn

Jacob 02-02-2003 12:25 PM

Firstly, if some of you dipshits hadn't noticed i put;

"Sure, its bad that people have died"

I think thats respect enough...

"Now its bad and all that people died, but can you deny that seeing a space shuttle blow up isn't cool?"

Magic Abe posted that and i seem to notice its more or less the same thing. So for all those who want to have a go at me and DI's opinions first get the proof otherwise shut your virgin-mouths up and keep your seamen stained claws away...

DI, yes...good point.

Atusi@...erm...yes...the Worm...indeed.

(Wots so bad about my Pentagram!?! Lol...i did it free-hand on comp and i cant do stuff like that usually, its real hard)

Disgruntled Intern 02-02-2003 02:37 PM

if you take a look at any other pentegram, and compare it to yours...it looks silly. what with it being all uneven and everything.

ah well, suit yourself.

You know, those two angry face things looked like they were attempting to sing along with the cd I'm listening to. Most amusing.
