what are their diets?

Let's face it, the characters in Oddworld are incredibly complex and developed. Its like watching National Geographic of another planet sometimes. (well maybe not)

Anyway, what I'd like to know is, what do Mudokons eat? Do native mudokons hunt any animal or do they harvest any grain, brew any beer, what exactly? It's interesting to think about: what are the Mudokons who are slaves in the factories eat? In the intro in AO, Abe seems to delight in the thought that "we still made Paramite Pies, and some good Scrab Cakes, too." Does this mean that they were fed these products, or what?

In fact, what do Sligs and Glukkons eat?
It is very strange to think about, very odd indeed to wonder what they eat in the universe in which they exist. This is what makes the game so unique from other games; one can get really deep into it.

Anyone have ideas?

Well, it seems to me that Mudokons and Glukkons are omnivorous, meaning they eat basically anything that they can, like humans. Mudokons appear that way since, as you said, they were fed Paramite Pies, Scrab Cakes, and Meech Munchies, plus it is easy to imagine them gathering fruits and berries from the forests. If you notice the shape of a Glukk's front teeth, they could be used for both meat and plants. Sligs I'm not too sure of, but I can see them also as omnivores. I tried to use a Scientific approach, knowing me I probably messed up somewhere, but yeah, that's what I think.

but could a native Mudokon live just on fruits and berries? I doubt it.

As for Glukkons, if they dont have arms, who feeds them, more slaves? Heh, this whole series is really a satire on slaves and the idea of an "inferior race."

MrBoj 06-13-2001 08:03 PM

oh yes, by the way, after reading your reply again, Black Dragon, are you suggesting that Mudokons and Glukkons eat humans? That's what it says in your first sentence.

(heheheh, just joking , i couldn't resist it)
;)

*Growls* That's it!! My speed reading never works!!! What I meant was that, like humans, they eat vegetables, meat, etc. As far as Glukks, yes they do have arms, but they are very small. Native Glukks, like my new RPG character Drok, probably used their feet as we would use our hands. As far as Glukks like the kind in the Magog Cartel, they probably have some fancy modernized way of eating, or just have someone else do it like you suggested. And no, I meant that I could imagine native Muds gathering berries as well as eating meat.

it was said in a chat with some OW folks long time ago that sligs were carniverous. I agree that muds and glukk are most likely ominiverous. Gabbits I believe are also carniverous(Munch's teeth look far too sharp and pointy for him to be eating plant matter :D)

I noticed the Glukks mouth seem to be perfectly shaped to fit a chute...probably the food would be ground up...Notice the barrels in AO being filled...all the messy meat...

"google fish," huh Sal? Have to check that out. Where did you hear of them?

Fish with really big eyes? Sounds like the fish gollum ate from "The Hobbilt."

BD, you got it the wrong way round: Glukkons actually have very large arms, and they walk on their hands. It's their feet that are small. Sorry to nitpick but I always point it out when somebody makes that mistake. :D

Oddworld Creatures Complex? Puhleease! Vykkers look like an old man's butt is that complex?

But I think they eat alot of faty stuff and unhealthy. I mean, have you seen one character or commercial that has healthy food? Like, happy weedy Elum O's?

I remember from an OI chat that they are actaully called Worry Fish, because they look worried all the time (I think). I'm not actaully quite sure, though.

Well In those days when everyone was wildlive they hunted. (glukks and Muds.) I think the industrial guys eat what they produce and the wildlive still hunt.
