Does it rain on Oddworld?

Logically, rain should be on Oddworld, but have you ever seen a cutscene with rain in it? But there is vegetation, grass and trees that must've came from some sort of water. Then again, it is an alien planet, so who knows?!

paramiteabe 01-13-2003 10:17 PM

That is not a bad idea infact Lanning should implement rain in his games to add to the realisem of Oddworld.

MO was suposed to have changes in the seasons and weather conditions. Maybe in OW4 we will see something like that which I hope.

And what about dangerous storms rageing across Oddworld? Like severe storms such as Tornados, Hurricanes, Electrical storms, and in the deasert regions, Dust Storms? That would be sweet. Imagine playing a game and there is a threat of a Tornado or a Dust Storm and you have to get the village of Mudokins to safty. That would be cool for a challenge in the game. But maybe it would be better to have those types of things such as a Tornado be as a back ground element. Like u walk into this valley and in the distance the skies are real dark and u see lightening flash and u hear thunder. Then u see herds of scrabs and paramites and Elums running awey from the storm across these grass planes. And then like three tornados form and start destroying things. That would be cool!

Of coruse it rains on Oddworld, I've even heard that sometimes it rains up but then again it was from a semi unreliable site.... *ponders

Alcar 01-14-2003 01:20 AM

Well, there are clouds and water/oceans/rivers on Oddworld, so I'd expect there to be rain.

Alcar...

Canned Gabbiar 01-14-2003 02:27 AM

Yeah there should be rain...

I'd expect there to be rain on oddworld since, as Alcar said, there are clouds, rivers, oceans etc. on oddworld. And on cyberzone in 2001 when I saw something on Munch's Oddysee (i think, since it was a 3-D... though I saw a glass building and 2 mudokons except for munch and Abe), I saw this snapshot of a bunch of Mudokons and elums trekking through the desert in a duststorm (perhaps scrabania).

FireFrog 01-14-2003 07:21 AM

WAIT! WAIT!

You're all forgetting... in Mudokin Fortress, the Mudokins made it rain.... so there must be rain.

Facsimile 01-14-2003 07:30 AM

Damn, FireFrog bet me to what I was going to say.
The idea about the tornado though I don't think would make sense. Weather is natural and I think the village themselves would have to handle that situation themselves. If the storms were there then they would have existed before and Muds would have always had to deal with them, why should this one village get any help?
Unless of course there was some new thingeemabob that the Industrialist created that made the dust storms or whatever by it moving real fast or something.

Canned Gabbiar 01-14-2003 10:01 AM

But just because there were storms, doesn't mean they occured all over the place and very frequently. But anyway, the question was about rain heh.:)

And I think the storm circles are for emergency when the environment is in really bad condition... I don't think storm circles are the sole cause of rain on oddworld. :fuzzle:

TheKhanzumer 01-14-2003 04:13 PM

rainning up

Actually Oddsville that was official.

Alf answered the question of rain once. He said that usually it rains down but on rare occasions it rains up. Maybe having all those moons affects the gravity or something.

Xavier 01-14-2003 04:25 PM

never heard about rainmakers???

anyway FireFrog, did you saw the rain?

plus yeah Alf allready awnsered this question (like Zumer pointed out)

Al the Vykker 01-14-2003 11:48 PM

There are dust storms on Oddworld. Not sure if the movie is still on there, but on Abe Babe's site there was a movie from early graphics tests that showed a bunch of mudokons going through the desert in a sand storm. They were trying to cover there eyes, and were trying to make their way through it. I'll go and check if it is still there.

It'd have to

Well, technically, there wouldn't have to be rain for there to be rivers and such.

But, it is pretty logical that since the Mudokons do breathe, that suggests there is atmosphere that is keeping all those gases by the earth.

And since there is sun, based on the starting of a couple levels in MO, it would be natural for water to be evaporated and kept within the atmosphere until it became too dense and rained.

Ok then, you guys already confirmed it, but I wanted to scientifically confirm it... Yeah.

Cya!

Leto 01-15-2003 05:26 PM

It probably does, and it would be cool to see rain in ingame.

lindsey 01-16-2003 02:40 AM

I like to do science on that kind of stuff. I did some big thinking on
that and I found out there is really no answer it depends on if the creater wants it or not.

I like the idea of it raining up on rare occasions. That is really odd. It almost reminds me of a strange dream I once had.
