A holiday you probably shouldn't celebrate,but will.

I know I am in the minority when I believe people who are not Christians should leave christmas celebrating to the devout. But I am right. Think about it: Do you whip out the menorahs and become a Jew for a week when Hanukkah rolls by?
And once a year do you fast during Ramadan, even though you arn't even a Muslim? Lets face it, Christmas isn't even about Christ anymore. Most of you say "Fine, keep it that way" But I am sick and tired of Christmas becoming a big cash in for Big Business, instead of the celebration of Jesus Christ's birth. Why pervert such a sacred festival into a big spending spree? What if I took Yom Kippur and twisted it into a big holiday money maker? Wouldn't jews be pissed? Well, thats what happened to Christmas, and this Lutheran is MIGHTILY PISSED OFF!!!

I agree completely. But whatcha gonna do, ya know? Pretty much all other holidays are corrupt, too.

Its almost funny.... Just to point it out, news channels these days always say Santa is on weather radar like on Christmas Eve. Is that getting pathetic or what?

Corrupt holidays. Woohoo! They often coinside with fictional creatures, and lots of candy/presents.

nads 12-24-2002 12:01 AM

how in hell does santa apeer on a wether radar?

Majic 12-24-2002 12:03 AM

Maybe its not weather radar. Maybe its just radar. Either way, its stupid. Santa on radar... WIth Bush and his trigger happy defenses, BAM!

Facsimile 12-24-2002 12:35 AM

As long as I get presents, I'm fine with it all.

paramiteabe 12-24-2002 02:13 AM

You know that is exactly what I was thinking tonight. I mean I was at work and you wouldent balieve how many people were out shopping at 11:30 p.m. It was like afternoon for crise sake!

I mean it was just rediculous. Christmas is not what it use to be. It is too commertionalised nowadays people have forgotten how to enjoy the holidays especially here in America.

To me that is the most important gift of Christmas. The Birth of Christ and any who think that presants and shopping and putting up lights are the most important things of Christmas then I am truely sorry that you do.

Wolfpac 12-24-2002 02:30 AM

I always find it funny that when they show Santa leaving from the North Poll that he is only being pulled by 1 or 2 reindeer, and his sleigh is only this small thing that a little kids goes done hills with.

But yeah Christmas IS too Commercialised. Full Stop. But you have to look at if from this side. People all around the world celebrate Christmas. And even if you don't, chances are, you know what it is. Like I can't honestly say that I know when Ramadan is. And I have no idea what the meaning of Hanukkah is either. Heck, I wouldn't even know when the Chinese New Year is. But the fact that people all around the world know what Christmas is, and maybe even the story behind it, is a good thing. Yes Father Christmas may Ruin it, but at least this Holiday is known all around the world.

BigBro 12-24-2002 02:39 AM

Yes, its true, Christmas has just become a corporate holiday. But, who can honestly say they dont care? As far as most of us are concerned, presents are waht Xmas is about. I, on the other hand, appreciate it more for the gathering of my relatives, coz I dont usually see alot of them during the year.

Though I do agree with the over commercialization. You dont have to give in. Im a devout catholic. And I still practice faithfully, and have a great time with my family. I think its one of my favorite times of year. Not about the presents or whatever else. Those are in the minority, sure all of us would love to have all these gifts, those are little sort of gifts from someone else give and you shall receive, or give out of the kindness of your hearts. But most of the time the best gifts are always right under your nose. Its also one of the best times, I see a lot of my family, and practice our traditions and have a great time talking around the fire place at my grandma's house. Along with the most important remembering Jesus' birth. For me its a renewal of my own faith, sometimes I am oblivious due to the mind being tuned out. But as of the late I feel I should again, be trying to be closer to god, and Jesus this season. That would also have to be one of my new years resolutions. Last year was a hard year, and I feel a lot of things sort of caused me to indirectly tune out. Christmas is also one of the times I really can appreciate what I have around me. I think in a way we all are either directly or indirectly tainted by commercialism, but I dont feel always the end of the world for the devout, its a minor thing. I know I have been occasionally as mentioned, oblivious, but I am going to try and really be close to my faith this holiday, and the coming year.

Well my mum celebrates a lot of religious festivals with the kids. Oh I loved Eid, we had jalabies. Mmm. I can say happy Eid/Xmas/new year in BSL. I rock.

paramiteabe 12-24-2002 01:17 PM

Gifts and lights and trees and shopping are all fun but family alweys comes first for me. I try to enjoy it both.

Statikk HDM 12-26-2002 12:13 AM

I hate Christmas. It is pervertization of God's Holy word. Plus, I step on needles all the time. Friggin' Christmas trees, I don't care if Martin Luther and the Germans started, I still hate Christmas trees. It's also really divides our family into a screamfest, since relatives live about 8 hours apart.originally Santa was a cranky danish fellah who looked like he through tea at a certain party in Boston. Coca Cola made the first "contemptorary" version of Santa Claus. Also, remember when you first learned Santa Claus was a huge lie? It was kind of hard for me to believe in things after I learned that. Yeah, my Creepy Crawlers set has an Evan's price sticker on, yeah Santa made that all right!

You have your opinion, and I respect that. I have my opinion, and thats the end of my half of this debate.
