there are allready lots of theories about that on the forum...
the most probable is because their natural legs are to big for an industrial life, so they sewed their legs for more confort |

they don't sew their legs togeter... they just hacked a whole piece of their leg so it's shorter

i actually didnt notice that until Xav told me and i saw a pic of a Vykker with its legs, you can see how the leg has healed!
