Is History Tainted???

"History is merely a written record from the point of view from the winner"

So is History Tainted??? Because it's right, we only seem to view History from the point of view from the winner. Fair enough, modern day history might not be as tainted, but a lot of it is. If you look a World War I. You only hear History from the people who actually won. I can't recall any stories from the losers. Only the winners. Heck, I'm not even sure who the Allies fought in WWI. Is History tainted that much?

Now look at World War II. We all know that the Allies fought the "Nasty Germans" by what was the reason behind it all. Yes our History tells us that Hitler didn't like the Jews so he wanted them all out of Germany and then he wanted to get rid of them all together. But since I have never heard the reason from Germany’s point of view, I can't be sure.

Now Japan went into WWII over Oil or something. But I'm can't really be sure. Why? Because we never heard it from the losers. Now I have heard rumours that they actually don't teach about WWII in the Schools in Japan because they lost the War and it would hurt their pride. If that's true the History may as well be thrown out of the window. There are Stories coming from the ANZAC's that the Japanese use to slice off the buttock of the prisoners and give it to them as a meal or otherwise starve. Now the Japanese wouldn't say they did that, but you never hear about what the Allied forces did to the Axis Prisoners of War. Why Because History is tainted because only the winners records are recorded in the History Books.

I bet if you look over every country's record, I bet you will find that History is tainted in some way. Whenever there is a battle of some sort, you never hear of the view from the loser, only the winner. And that is why History is tainted. You never get to see the whole picture.

Thats a really good point, i think the japanese joined because some islands in the west were stratigic points that they needed, i know any french soldier was consripted and if you think about it Hitler was Polish and look what he did to Poland!

I believe what you said Wolfpac, and often in my history classes while learning about what the "books" say, I've wanted to get up and tell my point of view, however, I'm not one of those people who can just get up and say things...shy in other words.

History is definately tainted. A good eg is my history text book, it goes with the view of Australia and its allies. I've tried to find books that will look through the eyes of the axis, but i've never found any.

I hate history. Every single thing about it, and you are right, you only see one side.

Hitler wasn't evil he just wanted the best for his people. The people under him (next in command) etc were the nasty, evil one's who said to the Germans;

"Wipe out the Jews..."

Hitler merely ignored that though and allowed it to carry on. People associate Hitler with evilness cos he was the figurehead...wasn't him though.

I would say rommel was worse than hitler, he had the secret police the SS, and im not sure if this was true but he gave out punishments for the dumbest things

Jacob 12-05-2002 08:44 PM

I realised i said "his people" when they weren't his at all. He wanted the best for Germans.

Stalin was the worst, Hitler murdered 4-5,000,000. Stalin murdered 10-11,000,000. All people seen to oppose him (not clapping whenever his name was mentioned by a public official was seen as not supporting) were placed on the CHEKA's list and then sometime later you disappeared...

Jacob, I wish I could kiss you. What you said is what I firmly believe happened. It was Hitlers evil head of army officer that was the mastermind behind it all. Hitler was only doing what he saw fit for his country, afterall, someone that loves his country that much can't be all that bad.
