OWIs Fan Interactions
 

Seeming as we've been talking about OWI interactions with their fans recently (in which they have been doing a fine job!), I got a question for some of us who have been here for a while. How many ideas, that you all know of, have they gotten off you from the forums etc, to use in something they have done? I would be honoured and excited if they used something that I had said in one of their games, so does anyone know of something that you have said that you think they may have used in one of their projects?

Who knows, they may even introduce a character named after one of our forum veterans, like Xavier, or Max, or Khanz (if they knew his real name), seeming as they have been undieing sources or information and pictures. :D

I wouldn't be surprised if OWI uses our ideas and feedback in future games. They seem really aimed to please us fans and I wouldn't be surprised if they did certain things intentionally because we requested them. Also, naming characters after fans is not that unlikely. Example: Alf.

Alf was a Fan? I just thought he was a good friend of Lorne or something. I know what he looks like, but I cant remember his significance to OWI.

Anyway, it would be cool if they did name a team of Mudokon specialists after you three. Id laugh if we see this in the next game :lol:.

And yes, feel honoured, I consider you a forum veteran. Considering all the valuable information you have dished out to all us foolish people who have absolutely no idea, youre always going to be a special edition addition to the Oddworld Forums Collection.

This true story doesn't seem to be well-known enough. I'll tall it again. After Abe's Oddysee came out, one fan wrote to OWI suggesting that Mudokons could have more of a personality so that players would sympathise more, which of course we got. Incredibly, this fan actually sued OWI for taking aboard his/her idea, and OWI had to stump up the cash. So, they're very cautious about how they deal with such requests. I'm sure that there will be a few 'easter egg' names, though.

No. Khanz is a good member and all, but not a veteran, notice underneath his name April 2002. Look under Xav and max's and mine all in 2001.

Xav and Max are, as well as myself(been here for a year October 20th, 2001) and some others who are still here or went to TGA. And the head administration.

So look at the join dates next time.;)

Though being a veteran doesnt mean much anymore just means we have been here longer than some people. Khanz does contribute a lot and deserves to be congratulated for that just as I said not a veteran.


Good idea and all, but I think Oddworld's main goal or original goal was about originality, I think it would be kind of weird to have like Oddsville the slig or something just doesnt hit my tastes.

I think it would be hilarious if a slig or vykker or something was going to be riding a mug in a future game and said something like, "I'll take Max, he's the best mug we've got."





Dear Odd, we are pathetic. Trying to come up with ways a video game developer could honor us in a future game.

This is really wierd. I was just thinking last night about Alf and if OWI would name characters after people in the forum.

I suppose the obvious thing for me is if they showed a slig who called his slog 'Nate' but I would love to have a whole species named after me. I suppose I'm a bit of a melagomaniac.

Still, I don't think that it's ever going to happen. In particular, if we talk about it I think that it is less likely to happen

I dunno you, but I would be very proud to appear (my name or eaven only Xav) in a game

As for the fan ideas in games, well I was gonna tell about the fan sewing OWI at first but I see Max beat me to it. But I still think it would be cool if they used are names, but only the ones that sounded proper, I wouldn't like Oddsvilles Oddysee or something like that.:fuzsmile:

I realy want to see something like 4 wise muds who got our names. (real ones)

a pretty easter egg, plus it isn't illegal, we can't proove they are our names :fuzwink:

Yeah the easter eggs thing is a pretty nifty idea, although they probably wouldnt use my name due to the fact it might be like hey like theres Al the mudokon, you mean Alf, no I meant Al. and so on and so forth.

But if any opinion strikes out there the most it is the easter egg thing and not real important quintology characters, just some side ones for fun would be cool.


Oh and a side note, if you didnt know any of you that is, my real name is also Al, Alexander fully, but not Alex. I am called Al by everyone usually so it makes sense to use that name here too for Al the Vykker.;)

Well, it wasnt really a request, more of a contemplation, and Im sure if they used it in a game, I, nor any of you, would sue them.
Well, I wasnt really basing it on how long they have been here, but more on their value to us.;)
I wasnt meaning that they name it after their forum names, I meant their real names. I agree it would be weird if the named something after someones forum name coz that would be quite strange, ie, BigBro the Big Bro Slig. Just doesnt make any logistical sense.
This is another good example of what I mean.

Anyway, I dont see how this is relevent to everything else, but my names Benn. I think it would be kool to see a character named after me in one of the future games, I dont know why they'd choose me for a name seeming as I havent done anything important (like the others), but I would still be honoured.

well a veteran is mesured by the time he is here, not thevalue he has...
but if you want you can call Khanz a "reference"

Yah, I know 'Veterans' are usually called veterans because they have been at a forum for a long time, but Im basing my statement on the fact that hes probably going to be here for a long time to come yet, and hes still going to present us with alot of valuable information.

Instead of calling him a veteran or a "reference" (:p), I shall refer to/think of him as a professional, coz he knows a helluva lot more than I do. Sound better than my other ranting? :lol:

well if Max, Xav, Ross and Jon (without "h" looks beeter :p) are included we will... uh... I dunno

Thats fine, but you may want to look in other parts of these forums most of us will be here for a long time also, because we have positions to maintain such as myself Khanz and Xav as well in moderating these forums. We both have been here as well as others for a long time and plan to be here for a long time. Though I will always see probably Khanz here too, he is a great reference added to Xav Oddsville and Max.

Although, I wasnt just refering to them individually, thats why I said "one of our forum veterans", coz I know we have alot here, but they were just the few I thought of mentioning at the time. I apologise to you if you feel left out. And I also apologise to all of our other vets/informative resources. :D
