Muds and cars?
We haveb't seen much vehicles on OW. I want to know if there are cars, bikes and planes on OW like on earth. Do the wildlive muds only use elums for transport? I can't imagine that they don't use cars. Perhaps they've got ones wich don't destroy the nature.

Maybe they have special Oddworld surf- , skate- and snowboards!
Maybe a nice idea for one of the bonusgames: Abe's Snowboarding |
We've seen trains and other orbical devices from Oddysee. We've also seen pictures of blimps in Munch's Oddysee, as well as flying meetles.
|
I can imagine more vechiles like cars being in the later games of the quintology where we see the larger cities of Oddworld.
Along with the vechiles that Sydney mentioned... I am sure that we will see more in Munch's Oddysee. I think there was a sketch in one of Paul O'Connor's Designer Diaries which had a different vechile. Abe Babe... |
the natives just use elums and meetles.
the Industrial people use cars and stuff, but they're probably designed differently, so that Glukkons/Sligs/Vykkers/etc can use them. |
Perhaps future Oddworld games will feature "Side-quests" like In Final Fantasy. Where you have other mini-games during your quest. Perhaps a race or battle of some sort?

You're all forgeting the obvious - wells, teleporters, flying harnesses, ballcars, even doors, for Odd's sake...
Besides, there are the Magog Motors that run on fossil fuels and generally run around ruining everything. |
Good points Max the Mug.
Don't forget as well : 70 characters in MO. We know of 30 or so. How about those 40-something new ones? How will they get around ? You must bet on a few new ways of travel with these new characters as well, machinery or devices to aid in transporting or flight, special abilities of new creatures to enable quick movement or flight. There is a massive world to explore with many secrets to unfold, the game will be 200+ hours don't forget, new locals mean new ways of transport. Those are good suggestions as well Pacen, races and battles for special rewards or abilities would be extra nice.Options for side quests, you decide if you want or need special abilities, then you do the side quest thing. |
where did you here there would be 70 characters in Munches Oddysee? Do you mean like 70 different creatures?!
And I know that Elums are used for more than just transport. Sydney, I thought the blimps were Meetles! |

http://www.oddworld.com/pops/pop73.jpg They are an industrial vechile... listed as "coming soon" under the Industrial Transportation on Oddworld.com. Abe Babe... |
So the things flying over the Sligs tower are meetles?
|
What a great and unique shot that is Abe Babe, thanks.
Elum: Yes 70 different characters, can you imagine 40 something more than what we know of now, and don't forget the 200+ glorious gaming hours. Oh yes and the create character option. I hope to hear a ton of news on all these subjects, at least by E3. |
I'm not 100% sure on that character creation thing, but I think it was derived from Lorne saying this:

Hi Pacen : If I recall correctly, (I don't know if it was someone from here at the boards or someone from Oddworld itself that stated or suggested) you were going to be able to create a character with a given amount of attributes. Let's say 25 options for weapons, magic type spells or abilities. you would then get to choose let's say 5 or 6 of them.
Let's say you want to go in blasting, you better get the weapons and armor to help you out properly. If stealth is your game ( it's mine ) you should consider an invisible cloak or potion of invisibility, you get my drift. In other words, besides the already 200+ amazing hours of joy, you get major extra game time with many other options and stratagies, you can play the game with many different styles, go different routes depending on your chosen abilities, etc etc.... Here's the catch.... I know there will be a create feature, but exactly to what extent has been left in a shrouded cloud of secrecy. I'm crashing the doors down on Oddworld, I got to get some more info soon. |
Doesn't it, at the Microsoft Oddworld site, say there will 35 different species, not 40 as everybody believes? I'll check...
Yep, it says 35 different oddball races. [ April 22, 2001: Message edited by: Max the Mug ] |
Hi Max, I believe it was a Core magazine interview I read that Lorne Lanning had stated there will be ( 70) characters, perhaps as you say 35 different species or races, but two of a different variety per race.
In the same interview he mentioned that there will be 200+ hours of gaming bliss. And a create character type deal coming. What exactly I don't know. Hopefully I will get details at E3. Lets hope there will be 70 characters in total, that's about 40 more than we already know. There has to be actually, it's a vast game and world, many new areas in a game of 200+ hours, there must be new creatures in these new areas, I assume. I mean think of it, this game will be 3 times longer and or bigger than both of the prior games combined. |
Man, off the topic, but does anyone remeber that side quest in FF7 @ Fort Condor? Where you had to give money and build stuff to protect the fort, like 3 times... then you got phonix materal? Man, they need something like that in one of the oddworld gamez.
That you be crunched up...... |
