Exoddus on WinXP

Is it at all possible to get Exoddus to run on WinXP?

Without compatibility mode the error msg says not compatible with WinNT

With compatibility I get an application error- event id 1000 in event viewer.

Faulting application exoddus.exe, version 2.0.0.0, faulting module exoddus.exe, version 2.0.0.0, fault address 0x0000d830.

I have 3 computers with XP on, amongst them one laptop, and the same happens on all of them.

Specs for the computer I'd like to get it running on:

XP pro servicepack1
ABIT via chipset
2x PIII 850 Mhz
1024 MB RAM
ASUS Geforce3 v8200 t5
Live!
plenty of HDspace
CDrom is drive G: (MYST had problems with that, so I include it in case it matters)
resolution 1600x1200

I miss playing this game, and would really love to get it going, so if anybody has good advice it would be much apreciated.

Ps. Oddysee runs just fine, even though it's an older game!

Months and months ago down in the depths of Oddworld Help, Pilot posted this information about running the Oddworld games on WindowsXP.
:

I've come up with a fix for getting AO or AE to run in XP. Windows XP has a backward compatibility feature that is not enabled by default. To enable this, right-click on the game icon and select Properties. At the top of the present window, there is a tab labeled "Compatibility." Select Compatibility mode and then select "Windows 95" from the drop-down list. Click okay, and then launch Oddworld!
I hope this is of help to you.

Thank you for replying!

I get an application error when I run the game in compatibility mode.

I seem to remember that it worked with XP RC1....

Anybody managed to get it to work with the final version of XP?

The solution is to download from the Game Copy World website the Fixed EXE for Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus, go to this site and select "PC Game Index", under the letter O, click on the "Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus", and in the final action, download the Fixed EXE.

Installation: Make a full install (I don't know if the small work), and just replace the Exoddus.exe by the Fixed file. That's all....

Work perfectly with the commercial version (english/french).

NOTE Do not select a compatible mode under XP (if so, the game doesn't work).

Fantastic!

I had almost given up... Do you know what needed to be fixed? A directX issue or..?

Anyho, You made my day, thank you!:D

It's easy to fix, just go where you install the exoddus game, and make a backup of your Exoddus.exe file (like Exoddus.ex_), and copy from the zipped downloaded file from gamecopyworld fixed in this directory, don't care about the size (three more greater than original).

Under my XP PRO, it work perfectly, but I see what the cheat code doesn't work with this fixed file (like SHIFT+up,down, etc..).
