Favorite games and genres

Hi everyone. I don't know if anyone has asked this before, but it's a good idea for a topic. *smiles*

What are your favorite games and genres.

I love RPG and adventure games. My favorite games are the Final Fantasy series and Oddworld. I am still playing Final Fantasy X, but it is currently my favorite game.

Kaimana 08-22-2002 02:37 AM

Hello to you Yuna! I'm new myself (joined a couple of days ago) :)

To answer your question, my favourite genres are RPG, Adventure, Tactical Espionage, Action and FPS (with puzzle solving elements in each genre).

My favourite all time game being Deus Ex, because it's a mix of RPG, Adventure, FPS, Stealthy Tactics and more. Plus, its really fun, has alot of freedom and you can play through the games and experience new things (your actions have consequences and alter the outcomes of the game). It's also a long game. (I can't wait for the sequel in March 2003 (I think))

Second would have to be Abe's Exoddus because it's long, challenging and fun. Abe's Oddysee follows that because it's fun and challenging like Abe's Exoddus, but its not as long. Both games had beutiful 3D rendered backgrounds and characters, and the level design was just superb (with advertisement of products scattered around the industrial levels in LED signs and pictures and other features made it all seem like a believable place).

I'm not sure about what comes next. But in no particular order, I also like the following games...

Halo - excellent game, better than half life in some aspects, not as good in others. Superb AI and enemies are fun to kill

Half Life - a classic FPS with superb level design and again, fantastic AI.

Fallout 1 & 2 - classic RPGs with alot of freedom set in a post apocalyptic world. Turn based combat and very fun.

Munch's Oddysee- Not as good as the original oddworld games, but still very fun.

Doom 1 & 2 - addictive shoot 'em up, very fun. nuff said

Diablo 1 & 2 - a bit repetitive after you've completed it, but a fun hack 'n' slah action adventure

Spiderman: The Movie -web slinging is fun

and theres much more :)

MojoMan220 08-22-2002 10:07 AM

My 2 favorite games at this time:

*Halo-XBOX
*Return to Castle Wolfenstein-PC

I'm a big FPS fan.

I think that answers your question- Oh yeah, welcome to the forums too.:)

Wolfpac 08-22-2002 01:40 PM

Sport... Well I like other games, but Sport games mostly.

The Sour Slig 08-22-2002 02:03 PM

Madden 2002 is the only sport game I like really. Well, Sport games never appeal to me, but I end up playing one and liking it, so... :)

The Sour Slig 08-22-2002 02:07 PM

Hey MojoMan, like i said before...my PC probably spoiled Return To Castle Wolfenstein, but I still thought the game was a big dissapointment and alot of the levels were a chor. That said, the catacomb levels were the best part of the game and it was incredibly fun. Going back to killing nazis was boring. The game was too short too.

Kaimana 08-22-2002 02:37 PM

Sour Slig just a little reminder may you please reframe from double posting in this case...simlpy press the edit button at the bottom of your post to add things in:fuzsmile: thanks:D

The single player was pretty good for me, but it is all about the amazingly fun online play. The Beach Invasion level was the most fun.

Cloverfield 08-23-2002 06:14 AM

Hello Yuna... and welcome to Oddworld Forums.

I too am a fan of Oddworld and Final Fantasy. My favorite games are all of the Oddworld games (Abe's Oddysee has the best storyline, Abe's Exoddus has the best game play, and Munch's Oddysee has the best graphics/FMVs) and Final Fantasy VII.

I like adventure, RPG and puzzle solving games. Oh, and any game where I can really explore. The more places to explore, the better! :)

Abe Babe...

SeaRex 08-23-2002 09:27 PM

Well, I have always loved action/adventure and platformers. But I've also been known to dabble in puzzle games (i/e Myst), RPGs, and Combat games (i/e Rogue Leader).

Ice Dragon 08-24-2002 01:05 PM

My favorite games are final fantasy VIII and IX and Abe's exoddus, and abes oddysee.

just out of curiosity why is final fantasy VII so popular...the graphics are pathetic but for some reason it made it bigger then the rest of the final fantasy seris

Graphics aren't the only things that matter in a game. FF7 had a superior story line and gameplay, plus it was just really fun.

I agree with SeaRex... FFVII has a great storyline and gameplay. It's older than the more recent games, so of course graphics weren't as good back then. I actually like all of the Final Fantasy games, but VII stands out for me. Probably because the others have more romance in the storyline, and also the storyline deals with a lot of issues (environmental, corporate, etc) much like the Oddworld series does.

Also it was the first game that introduced me to the FF series, so I also like it for those reasons.

Oddness 08-25-2002 02:58 AM

Kristen, have you ever played Baldur's Gate? It is so... huge... I found the exploration rather overwhelming myself. :p

My favourite genres are puzzle, adventure, RTS and RPG, so the Oddworld games are rather a contrast (by puzzle I mean games like Myst, T7G, Zork etc). :) The most important thing for me in a game is the storyline and characters, then the gameplay, so Abe's Oddysee is my favourite out of the Oddworld games (I haven't played Munch, but I don't really like the look of it). Unfortunately I got too used to Quiksave so I'm terrible at it now.

Silversnow 08-25-2002 11:28 AM

Well, I like adventure, strategy (you know... think and have patience? Is it F.. FPS... whatever...), simulators and I just LOVE RPG's!!! Mainly I liked Oddworld for the weird characters, but once you get into the game you can't let go, you know? Ok, I'm gonna copy The Sour Slig here (hehe...)

Favourite Games:
Baldur's Gate + Tales of the Sword Coast: It's really much fun, the colors is a bit bad, but it could be my screen... Kept me occupied for a long while, mostly because I couldn't decide what character I should have...

Icewind Dale: Quite much like Baldur. The differences are small. The magics look cooler, the colors are way better and you can make your own party. Quite surprising ending though.

Planescape: Torment: Wouh, just... wouh. I've never experienced such a... AMAZING world! The storyline and characters are excellent! Even when I'm all sick and tired of it of some reason, I want to explore more...

Starcraft & Brood War: It's satisfying to see the stupid terran's be wiped out under my mighty hand. Hehe.

Diablo & 2: No comments.

Loup Garou 08-25-2002 12:17 PM

Well I play those games wich are entertaining (of course) I mostly play game sfrom company's as "Blizzard Entertainment", "Sierra" and "Black Island".

Diablo 1, 2 and Expansion Set:
DIE YOU SCUMS!! Bwoahahaha (chopping heads and arms) to make things go harder, why not insert the Lord of Terror and his pretty mean brothers Lord of Hatred and Lord of Destruction??

Heros of Might and Magic 3:
Let's say you can have as many soldiers you want, I've once had over 10,000 skeletons and 350 titans, too bad that just the computer was stronger then me....no comments

Warlords Battlecry 2:
Both Roleplaying game and strategy game in the same game things couldt get a little messy....

Starcraft and Expansion Set:
Just drop the nuclear, dude.
