Doom 3 confirmed for XBox!
 

Just in case you didn't get the news a couple of days ago, John Carmack has confirmed that Doom 3 will be making its way to XBox! This is good news for those of us who have rubbish PCs :D

Here's what Gamespot had to report...


"John Carmack confirms that the graphically impressive first-person shooter will come out for the Xbox and will match the visual fidelity of the PC version"

Id Software had previously expressed interest in doing an Xbox version of its upcoming first-person shooter, but hadn't confirmed that there would be a console version of the game. Today during his keynote at QuakeCon, id's John Carmack said that the Xbox is the only console platform that id is "completely committed" to releasing Doom III on. Carmack further commented that the Xbox version will have the "full graphics fidelity" of the PC version, which made a major debut at this year's E3, where it won a number of awards.
Id Software has said that work on the Xbox version won't start until the PC game is complete. At QuakeCon 2002, id expressed hope that the game would be done before next year's E3 in May. For more information, check out our previous coverage of the PC game.

Don't forget Return to Castle Wolfenstein! My favorite genre is first person shooters, and XBOX is getting a ton!:D :D

Ah yes, I heard that XBox was getting RTCW, but I looked on a local game website for upcoming games RTCW was listed under PS2 only. It was probably an error though. I do have the game for the PC, but my computer just can't handle the game at all. Even though I completed RTCW, it did spoil it alot for me :(

Thank You, God! Is it just me or does Xbox seem to have a lot of cool shooters? Doom 3, Halo, Dead to Rights, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Max Payne, Blood Rayne, Brute Force, etc....

By the time its released X-Box 2 will be nearing launch. So expect it to be on the X-Box 2 line-up...

XBox 2 will be released in 2006 and Doom 3 for the PC is likely to be July or August next year. I reckon the XBox version will be released in no more than a year after they finish the PC version, so I doubt it'll wait for XBox 2.

Wrong. 2004-5 X-Box 2 is coming out and Doom 3 is coming for mid 2003. Also they would have to do alot of things to convert it...

XBOX 2's release date has not been confirmed, nobody knows anything solid about it yet and won't until the end of XBOX's life in around four or five years. Doom 3 will be coming to XBOX 1(unless the developers go insane) and the developers said that it would be as visually impressive as the PC counterpart. Halo 2 will probably be more visually impressive then Doom 3 is, so it should be a walk in the park for XBOX. The first generation games were just the beginning.

Actually, you are wrong. Consoles life span is normaly 5 years. PlayStation 3 is coming out 2006 and it would be stupid for Microsoft t orelease it up to 2 years before it. XBox 2 will probably come out just after the PS3 with better specs and all. Also, Doom 3 for the XBox will look just as good as the PC version (as John Carmack said) and if they had to reduce some things, it wouldn't be noticable (thats is they have to, it's not definite that they will). Heck, wit hit being on a DVD, they could add extra things to it.

This is Microsoft...!! A couple of months releasing the X-Box they talked about doing a re-vamped version. They have no idea about the whole console thing (Nor do i, thank god!!)

But they make exceedingly good cakes! Oops, that’s Mr. Kipling =/

Like I said, it'd be dumb for Microsoft to release another console way before sony does. Unless they somehow manage to pull a magical console with such high specs that couldn't be matched for years to come out of their ass ;)

Microsoft didn't just one day decide to make XBOX. The actual console was thought up by game desginers and people who have been in the gaming business for a long time. The Idea was presented to Microsoft because they knew it was the only company that could compete with Nintendo and Sony. The XBOX is the easiest console to develop games for because it was made by game designers. They know a thing or two about what gamers want. If anything the XBOX team at Microsoft knows more about the whole console thing then Nintendo and Sony. Also Microsoft doesn't just leave things until the last minute, they think ahead to the future.
