Necronomicon 2002, With Marina Sirtis and George Takai

Hee hee, I like that heading, though I doubt a lot of people will get it.

Anyway, I'm working on a short story, and I'm trying to figure something out. Is the name Necronomicon an actual historical or legendary reference, or is it routed in someone in particular's work? Also, does the word break down as follows-

Necro- Death
Nom- names
Icon- pictures

So, basically, death in words and pictures? My latin is a little rusty, so if somebody could lend a hand. Thanks.

I suspect 'icon' is meant more as 'convention' in this case. Like Vir-Con means Virtual Convention. It's just one of those things like 'rama' or 'omatic' that seems to have slipped into the commercial world.

Seeing Marina Sirtis and George Takei instantly got my attention. :D

"Icon" doesn't necessarily mean "Picture"; the main dictionary definition appears to be "an image or representation". So if we put that with the others, it means "Names and Images/Representations of Death" or something to that end... So as far as I can make out, your breakdown is more or less correct. Having said that, I know nothing of latin, and have simply got what I have got by looking at the latin roots in the dictionary...
