How?

I read somewhere that muds don't have names cause they all come from the same queen. How did Abe get his name? Was it cause he was the chosen one or what? And another thing, how did Alf get his name? I'm so confused.

They do have names, just not surnames. Surnames are used to denote your family history, and so it'd be pointless having them in a one-parent society.

To quote from Dear Alf: 'Mudokons name each other. It's easier than saying 'hey you!' all the time.'

Oh, I did'nt know that.

P.S. Where did you get that pic of Chang, and how did you make it smear like that?

I got the pic by doing a google image... I entered ' "fur fighters" chang ' as keywords.
The smearing effect as done with GIMP... I put a transparent layer over the original picture, then set the opacity to 49% (which made it translucent), then painted whiteness over it. But since it was semi-transparent and not opaque, it still showed through. I then saved it, and repeated the proess twice, with an extra layer on each successive picture. Then I just cut and pasted them all on top of each other.

Names

Alf has said that the Mudokon slaves named each other because Sam, the Mudokon queen, never had the opportunity.

So far we know of the mudokons Abe, Alf, Bill, Buddy, Big Face, Sam and the Wierdos. If I've forgotten some so could someone refresh my memory?

I wonder why they pick the names they do. Do they just pull them out of a hat or what? The only ones that make since are Buddy, the Wierdos and Bigface. But Abe, Alf, Sam and Bill. Why would they name themselves that?

Intern_485 07-28-2002 01:00 AM

Well...

The Mudokons proably haven't had much of an education so they chose simple, one syllable names.

Maybe they chose the names Abe, Alf, Sam and Bill because those are the names of some kind of ancient noble warrior or a famous Mud that they admire.

Doubt that, then everyone would be either Abe, Alf, or Bill, hmmm.... Bill:Noble warrior, that I gotta see. I think they just named eachother for the heck of it, how do we name ourselves? Our parents just find a name, like it, then name us, simple as Paramite Pie.

Does anyone know the shamans real name? Surely it isn't just "Shaman". I don't think they would have names like some glukkons.

Why would they pick those names in particular? Well, how do parents pick names for their children? It's just prefence.

The Big Face and the Weirdos don't have any names that we know of. The 'Big Face' is the title of the spiritual leader of the Mudokons. The current Big Face doesn't have much of a job to do, cause there aren't many spiritual Muds around any longer. He may have abandoned his name for his position. Same with the Shaman.

The three Weirdos would have had names when they were alive and maybe even use them in their spiritual form. I suspect 'weirdos' may just be a term used on Oddworld to mean 'ghosts' or 'spirits', or something like that.
