X-box online

I think I remember reading somewhere that once x-box goes online, gaming companies will be able to put downloadable x-tras online. like new levels, new characters, new items, new abilities, new vehicles, and so on. I was wondering if OWI would be able to add new stuff onto MO?

sorry if this is already a topic I don't post all that often anymore.

Maybe they will create updates or patches, but not extra characters or levels. That kind of thing is better off used for racing, arcade and fighting games- not games that are one-player and follow a story. Good idea, though!

From what I've read, the game would have to be programmed to look for that type of thing; my guess is MO isn't set up to look for updates.

Hand of Odd would be a good example of a game that could utilize Xbox Live. With the voice masking capabilities of the voice-chat portion of Xbox Live, we could sound like real Oddworld characters!

Yeah, I read somewhere that Hand of Odd will definetly use the live options for playing online, downloading new characters and missions, and some other stuff. I can't wait!

I found this @ xbox.com

:

Have you ever beaten a game that you really liked and gotten tired of it soon afterwards? Did you obtain every last item and finish every last quest? You may have gotten used to waiting a few years for the sequel to come out. Well, Xbox Live may ease some of that pain. With the ability to download new content from our servers, games may never get old. Imagine new cars, drivers, and race courses for your racing game. Maybe that first person shooter could use a new weapon, character skin, or capture-the-flag map. Role playing games could continually get new spells, equipment, or quests. Almost anything's possible. It's sort of like getting an expansion pack, but you choose only what you want. Why only get cool gifts on your birthday?
it doesn't really say anything about the game needing to be "programed" to be able to download new stuff. even though I thought that too, I don't really know for sure.

It does have to be programmed.

Yeah, they have to put in a certin type of code so it can reconaize and use new patches that are downloaded into it. Hand of Odd will be using this system once it comes out. You will be able to download new buildings for your village, new classes of villagers and new sacranarios for the game. :fuzwink:

Lorne said in one interview you could download new creatures and characters in the next games...

I definetly think this wont happen in MO. Remember a game has to have "hooks" so extras can be added. Now if they had to cut half the game out i dont think they went through the trouble of putting hooks on it.

you know... lorne was talking about Hand of Odd
