aviation

Hey dont you think that Blimp that Lulu arrived in was cool. Is that blimp owned by the Vykkers because the design looks some what similar to Vykkers labs. Anybody know what other aviation vehicles fly the sky's of Oddworld.:fuzconf:

Wil 06-27-2002 04:53 PM

Hello Kaimana. I'm sure Oddworld is filled with exciting and wonderous flying machines. After all, the Vykkers have a special relationship with being far above the ground, thanks to their ancestral arboreal legacy. Note that all thre flying vehicles we saw in MO (Vykkers Labs, the blimp and the pods) used gas-filled balloons to suspend them so high. Now some smart person is going to come in and tell me what that gas is, but I'll tell them it begins with 'H'. I though hydrogen, but feel free to embarass me.

But then, Vykkers obviously have more helicopter- and aeroplane-like technology, since they designed the Sligs' flying harness. They also seem to be able to use levitation of sorts, since zappers and chant suppressers seem to float freely.

TheKhanzumer 06-27-2002 04:59 PM

I think the reason that most Oddworldian air-vehicles we have seen have been balloon-type is because the vykkers borrowed an idea from nature. Just like our planes were fashioned after birds, the blimps of oddworld are fashioned after the form of meetle which has a blimp-like appearance.

Does what I said make since?

Xavier 06-27-2002 05:09 PM

it makes sence...
but a creature like a blimp? :D

and the Blimps are desingned by Vykkers Labs and rich glukkons can buy them like Molluck and Lulu

Kaimana 06-27-2002 05:09 PM

It does indeed make sense. like you said Khanzumer we do mimic our natural aviators (birds) i believe you are right about the Vykkers and them copying the meetles...oh yeah and thanks Max for that interesting analogy. :)

Xavier 06-27-2002 05:31 PM

sorry but meetles don't fly like blimps...
did you already saw a meetle fly ?

Kaimana 06-27-2002 05:34 PM

yes meetles were used by mudokons as air machines seeing how meetles are inflatable like a balloon it says so on Oddworldian.

Xavier 06-27-2002 05:37 PM

look:
http://www.oddworld.au.com/files/movies/CamMov.mpeg
they don't fly like blimps...
but the principe is the same

Kaimana 06-27-2002 05:56 PM

your right they do not fly exactly like a blimp but the concept is very similar they inflated themselves in order to float the same as a blimp. So the concept is still there.

Xavier 06-27-2002 06:04 PM

oh yeah... the reason why the vykkers are in flying vehicles is because Lorne wanted to point out that they are deconnected from the real word... he also wanted to show good the "pic up an animal for testing it" idea

Kaimana 06-27-2002 06:14 PM

interseting....that makes alot of sense as well. hey that was a cool video by the way is that a clip from ME:fuzconf:

Xavier 06-27-2002 06:19 PM

It's a video of an earlier version of MO, but it isn't in the final game

Kaimana 06-27-2002 06:29 PM

Oh.............Well it is really cool:fuzsmile:

Oddsville 06-27-2002 06:57 PM

Mabye the Vykkers can only levetate small objects? After all, we have managed to make small vehicls levetate ( but we usually use some type of loud Mechanical object to do so).

Kaimana 06-27-2002 11:13 PM

That could also be another possibility.

I think it's Helium, as it's totally unreactive and so there's no risk of the gas catching fire and exploding. Some of the earliest blimps here (the most famous example being the Hindenburg) were filled with Hydrogen, and as a result were prone to exploding, killing everyone inside.

Xavier 06-28-2002 09:51 AM

well Vykkers Lab didn't explode when there was fire so I think it was helium

how do you know it begins with H ?

Oddsville 06-28-2002 11:23 AM

I think Vykkers Labs might have some type of giant mechanical engin in its center the fills the 'air sacks' with steam. After all I know that the Blimps are filled with steam so why not Vykkers Labs?

Xavier 06-28-2002 12:45 PM

can't see much machinery...
even on the big size picture there is no much to see

Steve 06-28-2002 01:46 PM

Here's a useless question, are they blimps or dirigibles? they look more like dirigibles to me. (dirigibles have light metal plating around the outside, blimps don't)

Oddsville 06-28-2002 03:03 PM

Well OWI calls them Blimps so I guess they are.

Xavier 06-28-2002 03:06 PM

yeah... I don't see what's the problem.
what do you mean Steve?

Kaimana 06-28-2002 03:10 PM

if OWI said there blimps then they are. I dont see any metal casing around its is definately not a dirigible.:fuzconf:

wonderfull picture of a blimp...
no problem with it

Kaimana 06-28-2002 04:08 PM

Hey Xavier beautiful pic of a Blimp.................very nice.

Wil 06-28-2002 04:19 PM

Early blueprints of the blimp show that it was once called a dirigible.

I don't really know it to begin with H, I just remember it beginning with H.

Xavier 06-28-2002 04:22 PM

I got a good blueprint and I don't see dirigible on it...
can you describe that blueprint?

ethan 06-28-2002 05:56 PM

what are you guys talking about?

One, Two, Middlesboogie 06-28-2002 06:14 PM

For smeg's sake, Ethan! That's the second time you've done that. It's not funny, and it's really irritating. If you want to know what we're talking about, READ THE DAMN THREAD!

Xavier 06-28-2002 06:14 PM

hmmmmmm... read the topic.
you can read... no?
