Why is it Americans....

Why is it Americans play every sport in the world except cricket?

Wolfpac 06-26-2002 04:13 AM

And

- Aussie Rules
- Rubgy Union
- Rubgy League
- Hurling
- Gealic(sp?) Football
- Feild Hockey
- Netball
- And a whole lot of other sports

Just because Americans arn't good at them dosn't mean they don't play them. I bet they play Netball, but because they suck at it, we don't here about it. Americans only care about the sports that they are good at. And that can go for the rest of things. America doesn't care about the going on's in England unless it has something to do with them.

Dequibenzo 06-26-2002 05:01 AM

We don't play cricket because, frankly, cricket is boring, and Americans have infamously short attention spans.

Majic 06-26-2002 05:02 AM

When you say "Americans" you seem to be refering to everyone in the nation, and no offense, but I don't like it how seemingly people think that we think we are so much better and must degrate anything we can't do. Not once have I personaly ever thought that America was better than any other country, or that we must be the best. Nor have I thought that international news is worthless unless it involves us.

Although I don't like using the term "Americans" most people I think aren't interested in those sports. Those sports are in America also, but just aren't heard about or are covered up by more popular sports from America. Who knows, maybe it was the evolution of the country, that interest in those games there have worn down. And if it is sore losing (which it is some of the time, most likely) then who cares, some people from the forums are sore losers and arrogant *cough*cough*. I don't care how people started thinking all Americans are arrogant and stuck up, or how we are so much worse than others (aren't we all equal anyways?) but I don't like it, because some don't deserve it and aren't like that. We can all have pride and enjoy where we come from, but saying things about other places that aren't true is just stupid. Your doing the same thing you say we're doing, acting like you are the best and that somewhere else sucks. Please no offense to anyone who I may have ofended, if you do not bash other countries etc... I praise you. I aim this at the people who do.

Just as a side note, I haven't heard much about golf, baseball or basketball in other countries. Maybe its just the media covering it up, much like some of the sports from the two posts above this are publicized? Hehehe...

*waits for quotes to come pouring in* Luckily Danny isn't here right now:fuzwink:

EDIT: Ah, I went a little overboard didn't I. But by netball, is that like what we call volleyball or something? I know there are sports called different names in other countries and/or areas...

One, Two, Middlesboogie 06-26-2002 06:39 AM

No, netball is not volleyball. Netball is like a variant of basketball.

Sl'askia 06-26-2002 08:55 AM

Can't really speak for my fellow Americans when it comes to sports...as I hate most of them anyway. (though I have a morbid fasination of watching car races just to see how many crashes there are....*shrug*)
Cricket? Isn't that a variation of Baseball? (which seems to be dieing due to greedy players and owers...at least in the Major leages...) I don't know enough about cricket to judge it....but I know Baseball is rather boring to me. (well...most are now a days...as most of the Majors no longer play for the sake of the game...its all about money money money...blech...)
Thing is....golf is supposedly an even more boring game...yet I would watch that over baseball anyday...

Spider: Not like you watch TV anymore anyway

True...

Why is it that snooty people who have a bone to pick with some americans think that all their american accquanitences are suggestion boxes to the president. What do you think, that we can just change your entirely biased view of america by liking cricket better, and liking soccer better and stop being so fat and lazy, etc.
What do you think americans are, God! We can't do all these things! and most of the complaints are just gripes about the so called way every friggin' american that was ever bourne behaves.
Why do all british people spell words, simple ones like color with too many e letters and u letters?
Why are british people so smelly. Is it true that you only bathe on special days like Nation Bathing Day
Why do you have an oppressive parliamentry system.
Why do you like beans on you eggs.
So, realize that an american cannot change everyone to your silly culture.
WE don't listen to you. We don't all have a confrence every time Britty Mcbrit from bum**** Brittain camplains.
So stop your yappin'

Yeah, there might be Americans out there who play cricket. Not all of us are the same you know.

You missed the one about the British supping cups of tea all day and exclaiming "What 'O?", "By Jove", "Tally Ho" and "Wacco".

My view exactly. In fact, I personally know 3 Americans who all play cricket. And have played Netball and "Soccer" for that matter.

Mac the Janitor 06-27-2002 04:37 PM

Well, I'm from Arizona, and I think we don't play cricket and/or other popular sports is that our country is filled with hicks, beer-bellied, cowboy, uneducated drunkies, and we tend to like macho sports that involve violence or near sudden death. Ah, wrestling(which I entirely loathe). I think Jerry Seinfield said something like, "Who came up with the idea of two hot and sweaty overweight men holding and hugging each other wearing nothing but speedos?" We are a lot more arrogant than most countries. Like Dequibenzo said, we have a very short attention span.

PS: I hope I don't sound like I hate my country, cuz I don't. And I am not refering to all Americans as "beer-bellied, cowboy, uneducated drunkies"; I just think that the US has many people like that. The USA is a great place to live, and I am grateful that I live here.

Interestingly, the percentage of obese British citizens is rapidly increasing to level up with the US. And we're full of beer bellied dudes. And most of "us" love wrestling, violence, and Jerry Springer.

:D

Mac the Janitor 06-27-2002 04:59 PM

Like I said, I'm not referring to all of Americans as obese and stupid. But you have to agree, you do see many overweight citizens over here.

Edit: Why did you say Jerry Springer? I didn't say that. I quoted Jerry SEINFIELD, as in the comedian.

I know who you quoted, and I could see this one coming. However, I was reffering to Jerry SPRINGER, that great American we all know and *cringe* love.

I know. Come here (Britain) and count... I mean, they aren't hard to miss. (Sorry, I take that back.)

:D :D :D :D

Okay, you got me there. I have nothing else to say.

MojoMan220 06-28-2002 12:19 AM

The three really major sports in America seem to be Basketball, Football, and Baseball.

BTW, this topic is pointless.:o :o

Mac the Janitor 06-28-2002 02:26 AM

Yes, those are the most broadcasted and played sports here. I'm sure that there are some Americans who play netball and cricket; it's just not as popular as those three.

Joe the Intern 06-28-2002 05:46 AM

I think all sports are boring as shit.

abe22 06-28-2002 07:37 AM

I hate most ball sports. I like Formular 1's and V8 racing, that's it.

Agreed. Hey, here's a totally pointless observation:

The English as a culture tend to be more self contained and reserved.

Americans are outspoken and outgoing.

Okay, ramble over. :D

Then what do you find exciting? Besides blowing stuff up, because we all know that's fun as Hell.:D :D

That's exactly my thoughts. Except when I'm playing them. Lots are boring to play but some are fun.

PinkHaired Mudokon CWR 06-28-2002 08:42 PM

So what do you guys do to stay in shape and to keep your cardio healthy since you don't like sports?

MojoMan220 06-28-2002 08:47 PM

The sports I can't bare are baseball(snore), Any type of racing sport(yawn+snore), and tennis/ volleyball(sleeping).

Well, I like jogging and hiking, which there is some beautiful landscape around to do in, and swimming, which, unfortunately, is kind of hard to do out here. Plus, if a place is within twenty minutes of my house, I just walk there instead of driving or something goofy like that- no point in wasting natural resources AND getting out of shape (correction- MORE out of shape. For all that I stay relatively active, you're not talking to Charles Atlas here).

Oh okay good.
Jerry Springer is not as popular as it use to. I remember when it use to be really popular and funny. Now, everything is just the same and kinda nasty. What's new in life? Nothing really.
