What are your favourite sandwich fillings?
What are everyone's favourite sarnie stuffings?
One of my two personal favourites is chicken breast, wholegrain French mustard and Australian honey. Seriously, it is yummy. I like honey-roast chicken with mustard, so I thought I'd try a sandwich version the other day, and it was ace. My other favourite is another one of my own creations, which I call 'The Ultimate'. Ingredients: - Three slices of bread (brown with a crispy crust) instead of the usual two - 2 or 3 slices of poultry (I usually have chook, but had to make do with turkey last time) - Marmite - Mayo - Cheddar (must be extra strong vintge stuff), grated. - Crisps (preferably cheese & onion. Ready salted or roast chook are okay), scrunched up. - Whole-grain French mustard. Jam those all in somewhere, and it tastes delicious! Go easy on the marmite, though or you won't be able to taste the mayo and meat very well. When I can't be bothered to make that, I also like: - jam - peanut butter and jam (don't like pb on its own; too dry) - lemon curd - tuna and mayo - tuna and pb (no, really - it's yummy) - grated carrot and pb (squish the grated carrot between 2 bits of kitchen towel first to get most of the water out, or the bread will go all soggy). I also like white chocolate in a floury bap or a burger bun. |
A big chunk of barbecued pork roast.
MM MMM GOOD! Mushroom, cheddar and swiss cheese with about two quarter pounder burgers A big ball of browned meat with the taco seasoning on it, topped with spicy Jalepeno Cruncher Chips and a lot of Barbecue sauce. Venison summer sausage with bacon lettuce and tomatoes. Honey and peanut butter. |
Sometimes, I like to enjoy a little dish I call "whatever edible things I can find because I haven't been to the grocery store in a month". As it just so happens, this miraculous culinary experience usually takes sandwich form! Two days ago, it was cheetohs and sardines between two flour tortillas, and a week before that it was mayonaise and corn chips between one slice of sourdough bread and one of rye. Mmm.

Well I did something last weekend for a sandwiche. I got 2 pieces of white bread and I put butter on it. Then I got a banana and pear and sliced them up and put them on. Then I grated up some lettuce and carrot and put them on. I topped it off with vegemite and chocolate topping and guess what? It was absolutely horrible. I gave it to my mumm and she ate it (ew).
Well anyway there is a nice one that I call "The Ultimate Salad." I have 2 slices of bread. I put butter, mayo, lettuce leafs, tomatoe, cheeeeese, salami, grated carrots, ham and more mayo. MMMMMMM yummy I love that. It has to be cut in triangles because they always taste better then rectangles. Another one is Butter and salt and vinigar chips on bread. I like that one too. |

Someone on another board I visit said I should try Marmite and marmalade. I did, and it's yummy! Yummier even than 'The Ultimate'!

What one Earth is MARMITE?? Sounds....MITEY like bugs or something. IS that sandwhich spread?
I mainly like buttered toast sandwhich with pickles and turkey or ham and cheese!! I think I would make one right now but hey.........NO PICKLES! WHere's the PICKLES!? |
marmite, I believe, is similar to vegimite. if thats not enough for you it's yeast extract (it's been awhile since I've seen that and it's probably incorect). it's a british (again not quite sure) and used to spread on toast or bread or most other wheat products (that one I'm pretty sure of).
I survive for weeks at a time with honey and peanut butter sandwhiches and snacks (during the summer, otherwise it's broken by school lunches). unfortunatly I normally add too much honey and peanut butter and end up with about 50% bread and 45% ingrediants. |
Yes, Marmite is yeast extract. It is a by-product of the brewing industry, and was invented in Germany, but it was the British who gave it a brand name and sold it.
Here is an excellent FAQ for Americans who want to know more about Marmite. Pinky, pickles are revolting! |
YEAST EXTRACT!?
My god, you crazy foreigners will eat anything *goes back to forcing twinkies down chemical-swollen gullet* |

Pickles are revolting? How can you not like pickles over some sporulating yeast extract. :dead:  |
I hate to say it, but, as far as I can assertain, the food in anglophonic countries just all-around sucks. I of course include my own in this- US food is deep fried oil for the most part, wrapped in bacon and fried again. Up in Canada, it's hard to find something that doesn't contained smoked meat from some animal not usually considered edible, soaked in tree sap and left to age in the dirt. In the UK at least the animals are traditional, but they're either jam-packed with deadly diseases or you throw away the meat and eat the vital organs mashed into a bowl and boiled in a sack until they're grey and lumpy. And in Australia, apperently all it takes is the suffix "emite" to qualify it as food. I've tried vegemite- are you people not carbon-based life forms, or what? It was like trying to choke down WD-40 and play-doh! I'm afraid of this Yeastemite or whatever the heck it's called.
I say we all move to India and/ or Chile, and take up jobs as silver-smiths or goat herders, respectively, and trade our wares for food that's both healthy AND palatable. Or, if you're not feeling quite that adventurous, try one of the lesser known Greek islands, so as to avoid the tourists. The people are friendly, the night breezes are cool and refreshing, and it's unlikely that somebody will try to pass off congealed mink bladder boiled with dirt spores as a side dish. Or just order out Chinese, I don't know. |
Not all British food sucks. Steak and kidney pudding and shepherd's pie suck, yes, but Taunton Chicken and haggis are v. nice.
|
Bleergh! Sinse when have us brits ever eaten stuff with vital organs and guts in? Ewwww!
*thinks for a minute* Are you refering to haggis? Are food is not packed with diseases! Why, look at me, I'm normal aren't I? *thinks* Hmmmm....Maybe I should stop eating british food and try something else...:D |
I like peanut butter and lemon spread. Mmmmmmmm......
But I don't eat it too often though. :D :D |
I enjoy sandwiches with garlic soy slices, cheddar cheese, sometimes with a little shredded lettuce with a dash of mayonaise. A little salt and pepper goes well.
Hot chips with barbeque sauce between bread is also quite nice. Dequibenzo, vegemite is nice if you're in the right mood. I think Americans are accustomed to liberally spreading sandwich spreads onto bread - but vegemite should be applied very thinly, so you can still see the bread through the vegemite. |
Well I can say that I like deli style sandwiches like subs. I usually have salami, pepperoni the big pepperoni mostly, ham, and turkey, a little bit of Mirical whip, pickles, onions, some lettace and maybe musterd or ketchup on a deli style rye bread. I like rye bread with those black carrier seeds in it. That gives the bread a little taste which I like. I rarely eat my sandwiches on white bread. I find rye bread much more filling for me.
I also like home made phietas and chip chop ham sandwich with barbecue sauce. Mann I am getting hungry! :fuzblink: |
