Should there be a separate forum for OT artwork?
This has been suggested before, but I think it's time it was addressed again.
I think there should be a separate forum here for non-Oddworld-related artwork; both visual and written. True, there is an off-topic forum, but it is the busiest one in the whole board, and most topics quickly get buried under an avalanche of new ones. I like the atmosphere of Fan Corner, because it is quiet and gets the right amount of posts to easily keep track of. I do like drawing, and I think I will continue to do so for a long while. However, I've almost totally lost my interest in Oddworld, and all my drawings are now non-Oddworld-related. I would still like to post them here. When this idea was first put forward on the old ezboard (I think it was by Pinky), Sydney said something along the lines of it not being a good idea because this is an Oddworld board, not an art board. Nowadays, though, most people (especially the veterans) don't come here for Oddworld, they come here for the people. The board's getting more and more off-topic by the day (just look at GD), so I think this would be a better time to consider this idea. I would like to see what other people think before I propose this idea to the admins; it won't be worth it if i'm the only one who wants it. Alternatively, would it be a better idea to change the rules of Fan Corner, so than non-Oddworld-related posts can be made there? Discuss. |
I think it's a great idea. I hardly ever visit Fan Corner and Oddworld-related pictures are unoriginal by definition. I think originality would make the Corner much more interesting. That's why I generally like Abby and Anna's picture topics more than anyone else's. The naughty girls keep putting non-Odd pictures in their topics... Tisk tisk!

Yes. I think there should be an non-oddworld section for artwork and fan fics but not because I think it belongs here. This is an ODDWORLD FORUMS and although there are many great artists and writers who love sharing their original works, I don't think this is the place to do it. Oddworld related things are great but the majority of pictures I have seen drawn by members are of their own creations. I think a seperate area for them to go would make it easier for me to find oddworld fan pictures without having to skim through pictures of other things.

I think it would be a great idea, as I would finally be able to post my work again! I stopped posting work awhile ago as I stopped drawing Oddworld-related art... and since then my style has improved and I'm ready to show it once more. *Meeps, as she can't think of anything else to say*.

I dont think there should be. As i would be confused where to put the Orkhids and also people following the stories of the 'Babies' will have to look around to find them.

I think it's a great idea! :) I would certainly post in there. I think a separate forum for non-oddworld art would be better than changing the rules in FC... So that people wouldn't get confused and they would find what they are looking for.

I have mixed feelings on this. As it is now I am struggling to think of odd-related pics to put in my pic topics in FC, especially since I annouced I no longer felt my Drakkics were 'Oddworldish' enough to post there.
Like what Anna and BD have said...I have lost a lot of my interest in Oddworld (not enough to leave entirely though...too many friends made here too ;)) and like them...I have been drawing more and more non-Oddworld stuff. I'll admit...I love to show off (pride is one of the faults of a dragon ain't it? D'oH!), but by definiation FC is not the right place to post my non-Odd stuff. (though I did throw a few in here and there in my topics) So yes I would like a place to post them. I have been tempted to post them here in OF...but as busy as this place is I would lose track of my topics so fast it wouldn't even be funny. Then there is the problem that this IS the ODDWORLD Forums...and in a way...I think we are lucky to even HAVE the OF section. So on this I am pretty much neutral...though leaning a little bit toward 'Yes' for an OF art forum. |
I must say that I like the idea, and I'd contribute to it.
But as others have said, this is an Oddworld board. However, Oddworld Forums is a place of eight seperate forums, seven of which more or less pertain to Oddworld, so I don't think adding another unrelated forum would take away from the emphasis being on Oddworld. The arguments in favour of a new forum are: - Fan Corner would become too non-Oddworld if non-Oddworld art was posted. - Art posted in Off-Topic Discussion would be lost in the hectic atmosphere. - There are a substantial number of members who'd contribute. I guess if there were two non-Oddworld forums we'd have to make a new Off-Topic category. It needs to be discussed with Abe Babe. |
Thanks to the admins for creating the new forum. I hope we start seeing lots of fresh content soon.

I am very interested in the artwork of most people here, be it Oddworld or non-Oddworld. This forum has just given me more stuff to look at. :D I also maight contribute to it later once I manage to replace Fractal Design Painter 2.0, which I lost a couple of years ago when my hard drive blew up. . . - DH |
Yep, behold the new Member Art & Literature forum. I didn't know the forum software allowed Subforums, but Abe Babe said there could be subforums, so we didn't need to create a new category after all.
