I've been going over in my head some of the plots that I may use for future stories and I thought I see what everyone's opinions were about this one, well three, situations. All are similar in one aspect...love of a mate. A: A brother and sister, related by blood, fall in love with each other and want to marry/have kids together. B: A brother and sister, one adopted and therefore not related by blood, fall in love with each other and want to marry/have kids together. C: A single parential figure raises an adopted (and again not related by blood) child of the opposite sex to maturity and they fall in love and want to marry/have kids together. Now...of these three situations...which is the most acceptable to you morally? My take on it: With 'A' I don't see it as acceptable...as not only would it be a form of incest (IMO) but inbreeding, since they are directly related. 'B' and 'C' I don't have a problem with bloodline wise...but then there is the 'raised as if kin' bit. And that is the part I have trouble with. It does your head in, especially if the parties involved see this as 'morally' wrong themselves. Should they deny their feelings and live in misery for the rest of their lives? Or go with it...and face possible discrimination from sociaty itself? What do you think? (BTW...in case you are curious...it is 'C' that this fic idea I have is based on) |

A would be a good one though, its controversial and happens in real life. B...Pah...they aint related and thus its crap. C...Pah...again they aint related and so its crap. Make them related and maybe...although i would find it really disgusting. Euk...your own mother/father...Ugh. |
I dont' like A at all, for the reasons you mentioned.
I don't like C, because a parent has a special responsibility towards a child as well as having a special relationship with them, and I think a parent that allows this to happen has broken a sacred trust -- who knows what would happen to the kid psychologically as time went by. Also, to be less cerebral about it, I just find it kind of icky. I don't find B objectionable at all, and actually rather intriguing. Although there exists the same "raised as kin" aspect, you don't have the special parent-child trust thing going on. And of course, there are no genetic ramifications. It has a good mix of being socially objectionable and yet it's not fundamentally wrong (I dont' think). I guess what it comes down to is that I could imagine personally being involved in situation B., but never, ever, ever in A. or C. That's just me, though. Having said all that, I think you should write about whatever moves you. I have always enjoyed writing, but I could never think up the story lines that writing fiction requires, and I envy and admire those who can. You might as well go with what inspires you. |
I dont see myself in situations A, B or C...although i have had a thing for my cousin once...although she int blood, but GODDAMN gorg!!

I've done a little research and I have concluded:
I have no problem with B or C. If A didn't involve the couple conceiving their own child then it would be fine. |

A. Don't like it, for the reasons that you explained.
B. I don't mind this at all. They're about the same age, and not blood related... C. I don't really like this one either, I mean the parent would be so much older than the child, and the step father/mother has to look at themselves as the child's actual parent, and not someone who can just marry them... The child would view them as a parent (I'd think...) and it would just be too weird... The older one should be much wiser any way, and know that they shouldn't do something like that. Do I sound conservative? :| (Dan beat me to the Woody Allen example... Ugh, the guy's a genius with great writing and film skills, but he's a pervert... Apparently, he took nude photos of his step daughter when she was 13... Ick.) |
