Fireflies in MO

The place immediately after Munch and Abe meet - there are fireflies in the trees. They don't do anything, they just fly around, but I thought I'd point it out.

I wonder if they were supposed to be in MO as guides in like Abe's Oddysee and then cancelled again, but the programmers "left" some of their code in the game.

There's two small swarms, I believe.

If anyone has some info on this, or maybe can tell me they're not fireflies at all (?), that'd be great.

Edit: I had this in General OW Discussion, then I wasn't sure if it counts as a spoiler or not, since it has nothing to do with the actual game play... so I just put it here.

Well spotted, I wouldn't have found that. Luckily for me it has already been noticed. The best explanation I can offer is that because the level designers at OWI found they had plenty of room left to work with once they'd finished the game, they snuck in a few extras. I wouldn't call them easter eggs, but there's a few nice things scattered about the game.

You can either look for them, or look for one of the two topics discussing them all (like I've done).

I saw that too...
but's impossible to approch them :(

munchman 05-20-2002 07:56 PM

i saw them too when i was playing it, i was trying to touch them or some thing, but you cant do any thing to them

paramiteabe 05-22-2002 02:36 AM

Yep I saw them too I had a topic I think on this a while back. A couple months ago I believe. Doesent it take you back to AO?

Xavier 05-22-2002 04:01 AM

yeah...
but those are green the one in AO are blue
no, it's maybe cause of the background
Yeah saddly they don't do anything when you posses

Sal the Mudokon 05-23-2002 07:43 AM

Yeah, i noticed that too. I think i remember another patch just like them on the other side of the circle your in. If you chant, they dont do jack, but they DO succeed in linking the game to the originals who care enough to pay attention to details:D. I think that that area is also the only area that has those kind of trees, which make it look like paramonia... maybe its the edge of it... hmmm... *begins speculating theory*.... *notices it hurts his head too much and passes out, drowning in a bowl of cheerios*

I think you'll find the forest in Munch's Oddysee is the SpooceShrub Forest. That doesn't mean the Paramonian Forest can't be too far away, though.

Xavier 05-23-2002 06:22 PM

yeah and we still don't have a map of oddworld, so we will never know :(

:D

paramiteabe 05-24-2002 02:53 AM

You know it looks as if MO takes place on some kind of great plain on Mudos with some forest here and there and rolling hills. Could the envirorments in Munch be on some kind huge plateou? And the other enviorments we saw be beyond it?

Al the Vykker 05-24-2002 02:29 PM

If you look alot the environments in the cut scenes are familiar. When Abe an Munch fall from Vykkers Lab the forest looks exactly like paramonia, possibly the elums in the disecting room were picked up from that forest. Also the good ending when those muds here Lulu yell the area looks like either Necrum or Scrabania.

Xavier 05-24-2002 04:10 PM

yeah it looks like Paramonia...
but I'm not shure it is.
On the official site they said it's the Spooceshrub forest

Mac the Janitor 05-26-2002 02:21 AM

Yeah, I wasted a whole buncha spooce trying to get the fireflies to tell me something(a la AO). Man, I can sure be an idiot...
