Oddworld in Windows XP: How to do it!
I've come up with a fix for getting AO or AE to run in XP. Windows XP has a backward compatibility feature that is not enabled by default. To enable this, right-click on the game icon and select Properties. At the top of the present window, there is a tab labeled "Compatibility." Select Compatibility mode and then select "Windows 95" from the drop-down list. Click okay, and then launch Oddworld!

I did the things you told, for using Abe's Exoddus under windows XP, but when i try to start the game there's an error. They ask me to send an error log to microsoft.
With this information: AppName: exoddus.exe AppVer: 2.0.0.0 ModName: exoddus.exe ModVer: 2.0.0.0 Offset: 0000d81c I hope you have a solution for me. thnx Jeroen The Netherlands:fuzconf: |

Sorry guys. My bad. I didn't read the topic thoroughly.
I might be able to help if you give me some more information. Was your comp an upgrade? Did you have AE installed befroe if you did upgrade? And how much memory/RAM do you have? |

|
well after asking tech suport i got this reply
Unfortunately, this game is not compatible on Windows 2000 or Windows XP as they are NT systems built on a different architecture that does not allow access the hardware in the manner that previous operating system had. If you still have your receipt for the game, you can return the product to where you purchased it as they may offer you a refund, or an exchange for another title. Sorry for the inconvenience. Mike Posey Atari Technical Support (425) 951-7108 so can all the people who have AE and it works tell me there computer specs? |
Interesting. I had Windows 2000 for some time and could always run both Abe games on it. I also had Exoddus installed at work on Win 2000 as well.
I currently have Windows XP, but I've never installed any of the Oddworld games on it. I might give it a try one day and see if it causes me any such problems. Abe Babe... |
I have Windows XP Home Edition, version 2002, build 2600. I installed both Oddworld games without hassles first time, and still continue to run them.
Computer Specs should not present any problems, it's likely a software conflict. |
Ok.
Yeah, I tried that out a long time ago. It didn't exactly take a computer whizz to figure it... :fuzcool:
|
My version of AE and AO worked on 95, then an upgraded 2000, and a brand mew XP home.
Maybe it a european thing... |
AE and AO work for me on Windows XP, but they won't autorun. Similarly, the movies won't run as well on Windows XP - they seem to be jerky. This is strange, because I never used to have any of those problems. Still, it works if I insert the CD and select it from the Start menu so it's best not to argue with these things.
(Microsoft can be a real pain sometimes). |
crap, a bigger computer jerk than me :fuzemb: :fuzemb: :fuzemb:
|
Now that you mention it Arcoiris, I don't think it autorun's on mine either.
Come to think of it, none of my games do anymore... I think I disabled it on the Win2000, but haven't tried to on Xp. They just don't autorun and that's fine by me. My videos are also smooth but I had upgraded my RAM before I tried. |
I think my problem is my AO and AE games are worn out. Can't get 'em to play at all. :crying: :dead:
|
That compatibility thin doesn't work on my AO and AE!! I've already tried it for a long time ago..... But no :( When i double-click on the game, a small window pops up and says: "Sorry, not suported by Window NT"
WHYYYYY!!! Isn't there an update somewhere, that i can download??? |
Sorry to drag up an old topic, but if you are still having trouble, there IS some tech help at http://www.atarisupport.com
I didn't look into it too much, as AE runs just fine on my PC with XP pro. (Although I wish I could increase the gamma) |
