Does anyone know of any peer to peer file sharing programs that are not spyware? Kazaa and Audiogalaxy put three trogan horses on my computer!! Now I don't have any way of downloading good music. Bugger. Help me someone. I am now using Bearshare but I don't know anything about it. Is it spyware and is it any good? Thanks.

I used Audiogalaxy...
Am I in trouble? What's spyware? I suppose if I don't know what spyware is, I am in trouble. |
You could be. Spyware is software which "spies" on your computer. It gives cetain hacking users access to your PC when you're online on that particular p2p network (in your case Max, Audiogalaxy). I was using Kazaa, a magical program and then found out my computer had three trogen horses (viruses that allow people to get into your computer and do stuff to it) and two viruses which caused some very annoying errors with drivers, so now I can't use media player while connecting to the internet and Windows ME (which sux in the first place) has become damn unstable. I have removed the viruses and Kazaa but have not fixed all the errors yet. I'm gonna use XP now. Only thing is, everything seems to work normally for a while. No problems with my friends' machines, but mine got the boot. Damn!
Thanks Dark Xinos. I will give Kazaa Lite a go before revamping my computer and get back to you. |
Spyware can also report back to the hacker personal info such as social security and credit card numbers....nasty stuff. You can get them from those seemingly 'harmless' pop-up ads too. My NAV (Norton Anti Virus) has detected a few in pop-up ads (file is JS.exploit.exe or something like that). Prob with those is that you can only quarintine them...

Ouch.
:
I tried removing some spyware from my comp recently. Now I can't get online anymore. (badly coded shit that messed up my main wsock32.dll and/or winsock.dll) I could have well lived with it. I wouldn't have known of the spyware if I hadn't read about it on a site and felt like getting some space free on my harddisk. Now you know. As for trojan horses... never had that happen to me. I've actually never had a virus, either (er, no, I don't want one, either). Are you sure it was AG's fault, The Shrink? *does not even know what Kazaa is, so insert lost look about that one* Just don't get overparanoid. - TyA |
Re: Ouch.

The bad part of Spyware is that many of the programs that use it (Kazaa is the only one I know about, but I'm sure others do) automatically report to Microsoft if you are using a pirate version of one of their programs... Microsoft are having a crackdown, you see... A friend of mine has a program that blocks Spyware from all programs that use it (except Windows XP). I'll try and find out what it is... EDIT: Oh, and Audiogalaxy doesn't use Spyware, for one, so you're safe there... |
Well dudes, I got that Kazaa Lite that Dark Xinos told me about and man does it rip! No ads, no banners, no crap, NO SPYWARE, faster transmissions and it isn't limited to 128bps to MP3's with 128bps, it can go right up to 320kps!
Kazaa Lite rips. I suggest you guys that use p2p programs get it and ejoy the benefits. |
