Jealous of you
I'm jealous of anybody that was planning to buy an Xbox before they heard that Oddworld switched to that. I'm planning on getting one just so that I can keep up with the series. Now, of course you guys are anticipating Oddworld, but what other games will make Xbox a winning system?
To me, some games look crisp and awesome, and others look grainy and crappy. I don't know what to think about the system. |
Eh. Sorry. I should have looked around better, because then I would have found the other thread talking about Xbox. Disregard this.

I know that the PC gaming world bummed out big time when it was announced that Halo -- originally slated to come out for the PC -- was going X-Box only. I saw a demo-movie of Halo -- very cool. The idea of getting an X-Box never crossed my mind until I started playing AO -- Oddworld is digging deep into my psyche. If AE is as captivating, I'm going to have to rethink.
I'm not a Microsoft hater by any means, but it seems like this X-Box exclusive stuff is typical imperious MS BS (no, that's not the new Microsoft/CBS joint venture) -- trying to rule the world, or at least get all the money. So many other games are made for consoles and the PC, even though quite a few PC games ported from consoles suffer for it. I have a hard time believing that after 2 games on the PC Oddworld would bail on that platform if Microsoft hadn't said: If you want to play Munch's Oddysee and Halo, buy an X-Box. |
That's what I was thinking... It seems like Microsoft just wants to monopolize in everything. It seems to be working since there are some games that I want to play that are Xbox exclusives. Damn that company.

Hello bobvilax2000 and Doug, welcome to Oddworld Forums. I hope you enjoy it here and contribute positively to our dandy community.

All game systems have games that are exclusive to them. It's not Microsoft trying to monopolize, it's just how game platform business is done. Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony all try to get games that are exclusive to their systems because it means more money for them.

"Contribute positively" means "Don't just go around posting pointless spam posts like some forumers I could mention... *glares in the general direction of Abe's Son...*
|
Hi, Rettick:
I checked the rules for the official definition of spam, and I think I have a pretty good idea what it is. I also checked some of Abe's Son's posts -- does the fact that he can't type or spell and English doesn't seem to be his first language contribute to the spammishness of his posts? Also, when does witty repartee cross the line into spam? Thanks in advance for the guidance. |
![]() hey and Doug, not only will XBOX have Munch and Halo, but all the next Oddworld games along with about 20 games in 2002 that already have great potential to be the best we have played to this point.Games like Orchid, project EGO, Panzer Dragoon , 24 Automatons, Heavens Beast, Duality, Enclave, Brute force, BC, Matrix, and more trust me on this. When you buy an XBOX it will give you five years worth of gaming and an extra DVD. And those games I mentioned are just 2002's top up-comers, there will be another four years or so after that. It's powerful and great teams of developers are really behind it. It will be a very worth while purchase in my opinion. Anyway's my two cents there. Welcome aboard. :D |
Hiya Doug... I think witty repartee crosses the line when the post is utterly meaningless, or only has 1 word. I trust that most witty repartee must be on topic or have meaning to actually be witty.
Also, Abe's son is a spammer because his posts often don't have any text.. just one of those annoying smiley animations or some 2 word gibberish... also, I remember Abe's son once saying that English is his first language, and he is just a bad typist... his posts are often meaningless, and that is why it is spam. (btw, I am glad to say that you're FAAAR from being a spammer... just to let you know. Have a good time at OW forums..) |
Thanks for the knowledge and the welcomes. I'm really enjoying it here, and I'm glad to hear that at least one person doesn't regard me as a spammer.
BTW, my query as to Abe's Son's English was only an observation about his posting style, and I meant no disrespect to members or anyone else whose first language is not English. On the contrary, despite having some experience in 3 other languages, I would not be able to communicate on a message board in any of them, and I have nothing but respect and admiration for those who communicate here in a language other than the one with which they are most comfortable. Shark, despite my expressed peeve about Microsoft exclusivity as to Munch, I find the X-Box quite impressive. If money (and time) were no object, I'd probably get one, even if just for Halo and Munch. I'm actually not that much of a hard-core gamer. I'm plodding along with a Pentium 166, and most of the games I play are several years old (hence my recent discovery of Abe and his fascinating universe), partly because I won't pay more than a certain amount for a game, and partly because my system can't handle anything that's come out in the past couple years. Even Abe slows down when there's a lot going on on the screen. My other consideration is I've got 3 kids under age 12 that have an N64, and I'm thinking that if I have to get a console in the next couple years, it will have to be the GameCube. That didn't bother me too much because I had planned to upgrade my PC soon and would have my own toy, but parts have been falling off it at an unbelievable pace and I've put so much money into it that I've got to hold onto it a while longer. Anyway, I'm not dissing the X-Box, and I'm looking forward to hearing how it is from you and other lucky souls who are getting one. |
Doug, I didn't mean to sound prudish, it's just that lately we've been having quite a few people posting one-liners or one-word posts.
You certainly don't seem to be a spammer! I agree with you on members who speak English as a second language. They constitute some of our most respected members: Alector, Lampion, FreakyLA and TheBlueScrab just to name a few. ![]() |
Hi, Sydney.
I just wanted to explain the reason for my query about "positive contributions." I was looking for a thread to vent a little bit about my disappointment that MO was going X-Box only, and I thought, quite mistakenly as I discovered later, that a thread entitled "who thinks XBox sucks" had been removed. I actually don't think that, and agree with those who pointed out that not planning to get one or not being able to afford one or being disappointed that no Xbox/no Munch didn't mean thinking that the X-Box was bad. But, I thought that it was as good a place as any to throw my 2 cents in. But when I couldn't find the thread because I was looking in the wrong place *slaps forehead forcefully* I thought that it had been removed. When your message followed my little mini-rant on Microsoft, I thought it was a subtle and ever-so-polite suggestion that dissent wasn't tolerated, and that's why I asked if "positive" meant "no complaining." I've done a lot more exploring on the boards and I've seen clearly that there is quite a bit of dissent and opposing viewpoints on many different topics. So, sorry for the misunderstanding. |
a fine example of spam
