Is the older oddworld series "abandonware"
What I mean by this is did the publishers ditch the past oddworld series because I cannot find the PC versions anywhere, and I don't want to go on ebay. who were the publishers that made it and do they still produce or will produce it?

Well, Exoddus was released in '98, and that's a real long time ago in video game years. I think the only way you're gonna find a PC version is if you scrounge around in the bargain bins at some of the larger software chains. Oddysee... you'll never find that one anywhere. (except Ebay, of course! :D )

Abe's previous games were published by GT interactive and Infogrames (I guess) and even at the time of the launch it was hard to find the games in the game stores, due to the lack of investiments made by the publishers.
OWI complained a lot about that fact, and they are very excited because of the support Microsoft promisses to give by distributing and selling Munch's Oddysee with the XBOX. just to give an idea, the XBOX advertisement campaign will cost half a billion dollars to Microsoft. |
hah, you can't find the PC versions, they're easy to find...
i want PAL AE for PSX, now that's imposibble to find... |
i believe you meant "can" there, not "can't", glukk. it's a small but crucial difference... :D

Some of the stores were selling the PC version of Oddysee over here up until about this time last year. I guess they finally sold out. It was a platinum release of the game.
You can still get it on PSX over here though... it's actually harder to find Exoddus on PSX over here than it is Oddysee. I actually found FFVII PC version yesterday! I had been looking for that for like ages!!! Abe Babe... |
There's a store in Melbourne that has one copy of a platinum/special release of FFVIII for the PC. It's in Elizabeth Street, just near JB Hi-Fi.

Abe Babe... |
Whoops! I didn't mean to add that extra roman numeral there. I meant FFVII. The box was silver and blue, I think, with a picture of Cloud on the front holding his sword.
Those boxes have been there for months...and I was actually contemplating getting one a while back, but got The Longest Journey instead. That was the only store in Melbourne with it in stock. Since you know where that store is, it might be worth your while picking up a copy of TLJ next time you go there. It's pretty damned good, and has the kind of epic scifi storyline found in FF7. |
It was very hard to find a PC version off AE. When it came out, I couldn't find it anywhere. And if I asked the salesmen they said; 'Oddworld what?, what is it? are you sure it is a game?' and then I would go 'offcourse it's a game!, it's the best game there is right now!' and on and on...
Finally I found a store that could order it for me somewhere in the Netherlands. I had to wait another 2 MONTHS. And I probably paid too much for it too! Did you guys have similar problems getting it? |
Not at all! In fact, I picked up one of about fifty copies of AE when I went into the store last year.
