The future of Xbox and OWI
Well we all know the Xbox is lowering in price in Europe and here in Australia, but it's only Gates' response to the dominating market force that is Sony. The PS2 is outselling the Xbox three to one, by Microsoft's own figures.
So, the question is, how long will the Xbox last? Sega's Dreamcast was withdrawn for these same reasons. Exclusive developers like THQ are getting edgy at low sales figures and are threatening to pull out. This is no good. Plus, Gates can't really afford to run at a loss to sell consoles because he doesn't even make money off the games! So how low will the price go, and how long will the 'box be on the market for? Hypothetically, if the 'box goes bust and is withdrawn from the market, what will OWI do since they have an Xbox exclusive contract? They'll regret never going for the PS2. But then we as fans will have to expect games of a lesser quality than even MO! I cringe to think of Oddworld on the *yeeesh* Gamecube. What do you guys suppose OWI will do? I doubt the Xbox will bomb out, but Microsoft will wanna get more developer exclusive deals or it won't be pretty for long. The news ain't good, but hey, cheap Xboxes and Xobx merchandise never goes astray! |
I cannot see x-box going out of business they still have more good games that are coming out, the first ones were really good but they were not to their full potential, x-box is the better out of all the system in terms of aspects, polygons per sec, etc. and I think it will prevail, but of course this may not happen, But i am looking forward to its future games and what it has to offer in the video gaming world....

I, as in myself, am personaly sick to see people trashing X-Box usualy when they've only played maybe one game. I honestly don't see why people love Sony so much, I find both Dreamcast currently to be a major ass level over PS2, also X-Box. I hope OWI first before worrying about what system to go to and figure out a way to make future games better:o

Dreamcast died because it had crappy games. I know, I'm loking at the one under my tv right now, and wondering "why? WHY?". Xbox is a great system, yes, but it's real power is that it has a PHENOMENAL game line-up, both already out and coming soon. PS2 has a SUCKY game line up. name four good exclusive ps2 titles that are either out or coming soon. Now name four Xbox ones. Hmm, let's see... red faction and... uh... jak and daxter... kind of.... umm.... verses Halo, Munch (which is better than a lot of people here give it credit, I think), wreckless, DOA 3, the new spiderman game, and coming soon Marrowind.
Actually, M W (or whatever the heck it's name is) is what I think is going to turn the tables. I haven't heard much, but it's the first RPG for xbox. That, plus the Lord of the rings and Star wars Rpgs coming out EXCLUSIVELY for x box are enough to save it right there. PSX coasted for a huge amount of time on just the FF series. Once the RPG's start coming, then we'll see some good old Microsoft black and green in ever house. Sniff. I love this country. |
I never knew "Dreamcast" and "crappy" could be used in the same sentence with a meaning like you used. Crazy Taxi, Jet Grind Radio, Code: Veronica, DoA2, Sonic Adventure, and um that cheesy fighting force ripoff thingy. And Hydro Thunder was decent, I suppose. I liked the games for Dreamcast. But right now my brain is going into a state of insanity, my last few post here and on the gmefaq forums seem to have left me at a state of increasingly tiring mind, combined with the fact its 4:15a where I live. I think I'll sleep some now....

I enjoyed Code: Veronica on the Dreamcast, but I can understand why it failed. It just didn't have a good enough image, unlike the Sony PS, which was established and wonderful.
As much money Microsoft has spent on the Xbox, maybe it suffers from the same image problems as the Dreamcast? |
Hmmm.....
Well, its not like the xbox is gunna sell'out as said before... I mean, the makers and designers could've did a little more system engine work in the xbox because of the overheating prob.
Hey, and an Internet interview with lorne lanning: He said that the most %'adge of the power in the xbox that Munch's Oddysee Takes up is around 1% to 20% powering. Mudokon101... |
I do not believe XBOX will fail because of the simple fact that XBOX is by far, without a doubt the easiest console to build games for that has ever existed. I know this because Seamus Blackley knows this. Once more developers try making games for the XBOX hardware they will understand the amount of control they have over the game and how easily they can make the game. Another reason I do not doubt XBOX is because it is the most powerful system in existence, which means game developers can basically make what they please without scaling down the poly counts to satisfy the frame rate. Microsoft has a lot of money and they never fail when it comes to competition, so they are not going down without a fight. I'll stick with XBOX thank you very much.:D :D

I am not sure if the X-Box will pull through or not, only time will tell. In truth there is no 'sucky system' IMO, as everyones taste in games is different, so a system is only 'sucky' to those who don't like the games that are for that system.
I like the PS2 because it has more games I am interested in then the other systems and its backward compatability with the PS1. X-Box is coming around, so far (I only have MO right now) there are only two other games that that I am interested in (Wreakless and Blood Omen 2), but I might not even get those because I am not into console games as much as I used to. GameCube....even though I have supported them from the beginning (have gone though the NES, SNES, and N64)...I think they have really shot themselves in the foot this time. Not ONE game has come out for this system that I am interested in. Sure there are some in the future I have my eyes on...but when will those be coming out? And will those games still keep my interest as I learn more about them? (the new Zelda game is hanging on by a thread...) They made the mistake of trying for the adult market and I think it is killing them. (personally I really hate systems that concentrate on sports games...ugh...) Not only am I rambling I think I am off topic now...so I'll shut up... |
