An Odd Warriors... (Fan Art Pictures)

I guess I'm getting used to The Gimp software. After a few hours of painfull mouse hovering, I finally came out with this new picture- The Fishman Warrior.
http://www.oddworldforums.net/forums...=&postid=61554
It's not exactly an Oddworld creature, but it looks "Odd"enough to me, :)

MunchOnThis 04-20-2002 11:23 AM

Wow, it's very good. It's very odd. I like it, it's quite amazing!!!
I imagine it in action as a warrior!!! Nice job Lampion.:fuzcool:

Lampion 04-20-2002 11:30 AM

Thank you, MunchonThis!

Here is better quality picture of the same Fishman Warrior (double size). Enjoy it and tell me what do you think!

Another odd warrior- The Wolfman!

Here is new picture I just finished tonight. I called it "The Wolfman Warrior", although he doesn't look exactly like a wolf, and doesn't seem to be a warrior too. Oh, well...

Ok, here is the artwork:
http://www.oddworldforums.net/forums...=&postid=62123
I did the fur using a very small brush to the smudge tool, which gave it a high level of detail. :)

So, what do you think?

Lampion 04-22-2002 03:01 AM

Sorry for the double post, but I can't attach two files to the same post. Here is the same Wolfman, in a better quality picture (800x800). Enjoy it! :)

Teal 04-22-2002 09:27 AM

Sheesh, how long did that take you to draw? All them hairs... *wishes she had a "smudge tool," whatever that is*

And what makes it "not wolf-like"? He looks all right to me...

dark_xinos 04-22-2002 12:56 PM

Wow! Thats great lampion!

Ive just spotted a minor thing that makes me suspicios... it says on the pictures: 05:20:2002. But you posted 04:20:2002... :fuzconf:

Still, there really cool!

Lampion 04-22-2002 02:26 PM

Early versions

Ops, I got the months mixed up, my bad... :)
Teal, both pictures took half my weekend to be done, My hand is hurting...

Anyway, here is a picture showing two of the early versions of the wolfman.
http://www.oddworldforums.net/forums...=&postid=62156
The first version looks like a lion, or a tiger (my original idea). I've changed my mind and the result looked like a fox
So, I've changed it a little bit to make it look more like a wolf, in the end. :)

Those pictures are amazing Lampion! Such detail and life you are able to bring.

I always want to know how you can use software like Photoshop and that to create pictures. I have tried it but don't even know where to start!!! It's one area I would love to improve my skills in, and if I were to get a start I'm sure I could produce something kind of semi-decent.

Kool!!!

Those wolf men drawings are really creative! How do u do it! When u do this, at first do u do a rough sketch and clean it up to get into detail?

Mudokon101...

Thank you guys and girls, for the nice comments.

Abe Babe, I don't use Photoshop, although I reckon it is more powerfull than the GIMP. However. the GIMP is completely free, and there is an increasingly set of diferent plugins avilable in the GIMP site. After reading what you said about learning, I decided to write a few short tutorials, showing the basics of the steps I use to make pictures. coming soon! :)

Mudokon101, I lke to make sketches with pens and scan them to continue the work in the computer, but in this case I made both pictures completely with the mouse and the software I mentioned. When I started the first one I didn't have a fishman in mind. I started with a basic shape, intending to make a man's face. I was having probles making his nose, so I ripped it off. I started to mix colors and got the grey tone of his skin. So, the idea of making a gishman came to me. I added the big ears, and the Greek-like elm. The ear-rings seemed to be a nice touch. It added character to the warrior. :)

In second one, I was playing with shapes again, and in the middle of the process, I just got the cool "fur" effect. So, I decided to make a creature with that cool affect. A lion-like creature came fisrt, but then I decide to make a wolf like creature, and I was pretty much pleased with the resulting head. My idea was to add a right arm just like you can see in the first model of th eearly version. I wanted to show his claws :). But I got too lazy after all the work. Maybe I'll add it in the future.

And for everyone who wants to start editing pictures with a very decent tool, and totally FREE, try the GIMP software. Go to this site and dowload the windows version. I'm sure you're gonna enjoy it. I know that Midlesboogie uses it, and after a brief period of adaptation, can use it very decently.

I really wish I could be original, but all I can say is that you've been a fantastic artist since the first time i met you, some time around when you did those pics of the mudokon kids and the cave painters and you still continue to amaze all of us here. Its been so long since I've chatted with you though, so I hope you will keep a good forums presence again and I'm looking forward to more great work! Later.
